l i g h t , w h e n t h e e n g i n e i s r u n n i n g , a c -
c o m p a n i e d b y a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l a n d
the message " B a t t e r y c h a r g e f a u l t "
on the display, indicates one of the
following:
- f a u l t y o p e r a t i o n o f t h e c h a r g i n g c i r c u i t ,
- slack battery or starter terminals,
- a c u t o r s l a c k a l t e r n a t o r b e l t ,
- a n a l t e r n a t o r f a i l u r e .

This comes on for a few
seconds when the igni-
t i o n i s s w i t c h e d o n .
When the ignition is on, it is accom-
p a n i e d b y a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l a n d t h e
message " F u e l l e v e l l o w " on the
d i s p l a y .
I f i t fl a s h e s w i t h t h e f u e l g a u g e n e e d l e
in the lowest position, when the igni-
t i o n i s o n , t h i s i n d i c a t e s a m a l f u n c t i o n
o f t h e f u e l g a u g e .
W h e n t h i s w a r n i n g l i g h t fi r s t c o m e s
o n , y o u h a v e e n o u g h f u e l l e f t t o d r i v e
a p p r o x i m a t e l y 3 0 m i l e s ( 5 0 k m ) .
Capacity of the tank:
- approximately 55 litres for petrol engines,
- approximately 60 litres for Diesel e n g i n e s .

If the warning light remains on or
comes on above 8 mph (12 km/h),
t h i s i n d i c a t e s a n A B S m a l f u n c t i o n .
However, the vehicle retains conven-
t i o n a l s e r v o - a s s i s t e d b r a k i n g .
Lighting of this warning light, accom-
p a n i e d b y a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l a n d t h e
message " A B S f a u l t " on the display,
i n d i c a t e s a n A B S f a u l t .

FUEL SUPPLY CUT-OFF (PETROL)

Brake pad wear depends on the style
o f d r i v i n g , i n p a r t i c u l a r f o r v e h i c l e s

ECONOMY MODE FUNCTION
After the engine has stopped, with
the key in the "accessories" position,
c e r t a i n f u n c t i o n s ( w i n d s c r e e n w i p e r ,
e l e c t r i c w i n d o w s , c o u r t e s y l i g h t s ,
a u d i o e q u i p m e n t , e t c . ) c a n o n l y b e
u s e d f o r a c o m b i n e d d u r a t i o n o f a p -
p r o x i m a t e l y t h i r t y m i n u t e s , t o p r e v e n t
discharging the battery.
O n c e t h e t h i r t y m i n u t e s a r e o v e r , a
switching to economy mode mes-
s a g e a p p e a r s o n t h e m u l t i - f u n c t i o n
d i s p l a y a n d t h e a c t i v e f u n c t i o n s a r e
p u t o n s t a n d b y .
T h e s e f u n c t i o n s a r e r e a c t i v a t e d a u -
t o m a t i c a l l y n e x t t i m e t h e v e h i c l e i s
driven.
I n o r d e r t o r e s u m e t h e u s e o f t h e s e
f u n c t i o n s i m m e d i a t e l y , t h e e n g i n e
m u s t b e s t a r t e d a n d l e f t t o r u n f o r a
f e w m i n u t e s .
T h e t i m e a v a i l a b l e t o y o u w i l l t h e n b e
d o u b l e t h e d u r a t i o n f o r w h i c h t h e e n -
g i n e i s l e f t r u n n i n g . H o w e v e r , t h i s p e -
r i o d w i l l a l w a y s b e b e t w e e n fi v e a n d
t h i r t y m i n u t e s .
BATTERY
I t i s a d v i s a b l e t o d i s c o n n e c t t h e
b a t t e r y i f t h e v e h i c l e i s n o t t o b e
u s e d f o r a p e r i o d o f m o r e t h a n
o n e m o n t h .
Before disconnecting the bat-
t e r y , y o u m u s t w a i t 2 m i n u t e s
after switching off the igni-
tion.
Never disconnect a terminal when
t h e e n g i n e i s r u n n i n g .
N e v e r c h a r g e a b a t t e r y w i t h o u t fi r s t
disconnecting the terminals.
Close the windows and the roof be-
fore disconnecting the battery.
After every reconnection of the bat-
tery, switch on the ignition and wait
1 m i n u t e b e f o r e s t a r t i n g t o a l l o w t h e
electronic systems to be initialised. If
s l i g h t d i f fi c u l t i e s a r e e x p e r i e n c e d a f -
ter this, please contact a CITROËN
dealer. A fl a t b a t t e r y p r e v e n t s t h e
engine from starting.
T o s t a r t t h e v e h i c l e f r o m
a n o t h e r b a t t e r y :
- Connect the red cable to the posi-
tive (+) terminals of the two bat-
teries,
- Connect one end of the green or black cable to the negative (-) ter-
minal of the slave battery,
- Connect the other end of the green or black cable to an earth
point on the broken down vehicle
as far as possible from the bat-
t e r y ( f o r e x a m p l e , r i g h t - h a n d e n -
g i n e m o u n t i n g ) .
O p e r a t e t h e s t a r t e r , l e t t h e e n g i n e r u n .
W a i t f o r t h e e n g i n e t o r e t u r n t o i d l e ,
then disconnect the cables.
T o c h a r g e t h e b a t t e r y u s i n g a
b a t t e r y c h a r g e r :
- Disconnect the battery,
- F o l l o w t h e i n s t r u c t i o n s f o r u s e
given by the battery charger man-
u f a c t u r e r ,
- Reconnect starting with the nega- tive (-) terminal,
- Check that the terminals and connectors are clean. If they are
c o v e r e d w i t h s u l p h a t e ( w h i t e o r
greenish deposit), disconnect
them and clean them.
