A f t e r t h e e n g i n e h a s s t o p p e d , w i t h
t h e k e y i n t h e " a c c e s s o r i e s " p o s i t i o n ,
c e r t a i n f u n c t i o n s ( w i n d s c r e e n w i p e r ,
e l e c t r i c w i n d o w s , c o u r t e s y l i g h t s ,
a u d i o e q u i p m e n t , e t c . ) c a n o n l y b e
u s e d f o r a c o m b i n e d d u r a t i o n o f a p -
p r o x i m a t e l y t h i r t y m i n u t e s , t o p r e v e n t
discharging the battery.
O n c e t h e t h i r t y m i n u t e s a r e o v e r , a
switching to economy mode mes-
s a g e a p p e a r s o n t h e m u l t i - f u n c t i o n
d i s p l a y a n d t h e a c t i v e f u n c t i o n s a r e
p u t o n s t a n d b y .
T h e s e f u n c t i o n s a r e r e a c t i v a t e d a u -
tomatically next time the vehicle is
driven.
I n o r d e r t o r e s u m e t h e u s e o f t h e s e
f u n c t i o n s i m m e d i a t e l y , t h e e n g i n e
m u s t b e s t a r t e d a n d l e f t t o r u n f o r a
f e w m i n u t e s .
T h e t i m e a v a i l a b l e t o y o u w i l l t h e n
b e d o u b l e t h e d u r a t i o n f o r w h i c h t h e
e n g i n e i s l e f t r u n n i n g . H o w e v e r , t h i s
p e r i o d w i l l a l w a y s b e b e t w e e n fi v e

BATTERY
I t i s a d v i s a b l e t o d i s c o n n e c t t h e
b a t t e r y i f t h e v e h i c l e i s n o t t o b e
u s e d f o r a p e r i o d o f m o r e t h a n
o n e m o n t h .
Before disconnecting the bat-
t e r y , y o u m u s t w a i t 2 m i n u t e s
after switching off the ignition.
Never disconnect a terminal
w h e n t h e e n g i n e i s r u n n i n g .
N e v e r c h a r g e a b a t t e r y w i t h o u t fi r s t
disconnecting the terminals.
Close the windows and the roof before
disconnecting the battery.
After every reconnection of the bat-
t e r y , s w i t c h o n t h e i g n i t i o n a n d w a i t
1 m i n u t e b e f o r e s t a r t i n g t o a l l o w t h e
electronic systems to be initialised. If
s l i g h t d i f fi c u l t i e s a r e e x p e r i e n c e d a f -
t e r t h i s , p l e a s e c o n t a c t a C I T R O Ë N
dealer.

T o s t a r t t h e v e h i c l e f r o m
a n o t h e r b a t t e r y :
- Connect the red cable to the positive
( + ) t e r m i n a l s o f t h e t w o b a t t e r i e s ,
- Connect one end of the green or black cable to the negative (-) ter-
m i n a l o f t h e s l a v e b a t t e r y ,
- Connect the other end of the green or black cable to an earth
point on the broken down vehi-
cle as far as possible from the
b a t t e r y ( f o r e x a m p l e , r i g h t - h a n d
e n g i n e m o u n t i n g ) .
O p e r a t e t h e s t a r t e r , l e t t h e e n g i n e r u n .
W a i t f o r t h e e n g i n e t o r e t u r n t o i d l e ,
then disconnect the cables.
T o c h a r g e t h e b a t t e r y u s i n g a
b a t t e r y c h a r g e r :
- D i s c o n n e c t t h e b a t t e r y ,
- F o l l o w t h e i n s t r u c t i o n s f o r u s e
given by the battery charger man-
u f a c t u r e r ,
- Reconnect starting with the nega- t i v e ( - ) t e r m i n a l ,
- Check that the terminals and connectors are clean. If they are
c o v e r e d w i t h s u l p h a t e ( w h i t e o r
g r e e n i s h d e p o s i t ) , d i s c o n n e c t
them and clean them.

l o w e r p a r t o f t h e f r o n t b u m p e r t o p r e -
v e n t t h e a c c u m u l a t i o n o f s n o w a t t h e
radiator cooling fan.

- w h e n t h e e x t e r i o r t e m p e r a t u r e i s h i g h e r t h a n 1 0 ° C ,
- w h e n t o w i n g ,
- for speeds higher than 75 mph (120 km/h).

Tyres: C h e c k t h e t y r e p r e s s u r e s o f
t h e t o w i n g v e h i c l e a n d o f t h e t r a i l e r ,
observing the recommended pres-
s u r e s .
Braking: Towing increases the braking
distance.
Lights: Check the electrical signalling
on the trailer.
Side wind: T a k e i n t o a c c o u n t t h e
increased sensitivity to side wind.
Cooling: Towing a trailer on a slope
i n c r e a s e s t h e t e m p e r a t u r e o f t h e
coolant.
A s t h e f a n i s e l e c t r i c a l l y c o n t r o l l e d ,
its cooling capacity is not dependent
on the engine speed.
O n t h e c o n t r a r y , u s e a h i g h g e a r t o
l o w e r t h e e n g i n e s p e e d a n d r e d u c e
y o u r s p e e d .
T h e m a x i m u m t o w i n g l o a d o n a l o n g
slope depends on the gradient and
t h e o u t s i d e t e m p e r a t u r e .
I n a l l c a s e s , p a y a t t e n t i o n t o t h e c o o l a n t
t e m p e r a t u r e .
I n c e r t a i n c a s e s o f p a r t i c u l a r l y a r d u -
o u s u s e ( t o w i n g t h e m a x i m u m l o a d
on a steep gradient in high tempera-
t u r e s ) , s w i t c h i n g o f f t h e a i r c o n d i t i o n -
ing permits the recovery of engine
power and therefore an increase in
the towing capacity.
I f t h e w a r n i n g l i g h t c o m e s o n , s t o p
the vehicle and switch off the engine
as soon as possible.
D i s t r i b u t i o n o f l o a d s : D i s t r i b u t e t h e
load in the trailer so that the heaviest
items are as close as possible to the
axle and the nose weight approach-
