DRIVING
Moving off
Apply the parking brake.
Select position P or N .
Start the engine.
If this procedure is not followed, an au-
dible signal is heard, accompanied by a
message in the multifunction screen.
With the engine running, press the
brake pedal.
Release the parking brake.
Select position R , D or M .
Gradually release the brake pedal.
The vehicle moves off immediately. Automatic operation
Select position D for automatic
changing of the four gears.
T h e g e a r b o x t h e n o p e r a t e s i n a u t o -
adaptive mode, without any intervention
on the part of the driver. It continuously
selects the most suitable gear according
t o t h e s t y l e o f d r i v i n g , t h e p r o fi l e o f t h e
road and the load in the vehicle.
F o r m a x i m u m a c c e l e r a t i o n w i t h o u t
touching the lever, press the accelera-
tor pedal down fully (kick down). The
g e a r b o x c h a n g e s d o w n a u t o m a t i c a l l y
or maintains the gear selected until the
m a x i m u m e n g i n e s p e e d i s r e a c h e d .
O n b r a k i n g , t h e g e a r b o x c h a n g e s d o w n
a u t o m a t i c a l l y t o p r o v i d e e f fi c i e n t e n g i n e
braking.
If you release the accelerator sharply,
t h e g e a r b o x w i l l n o t c h a n g e t o a h i g h e r
gear for safety reasons. Sport and snow programmes
These two special programmes supple-
ment the automatic operation in very
s p e c i fi c c o n d i t i o n s o f u s e .
Sport programme "S"
Press button "S" , after starting the
engine.
T h e g e a r b o x a u t o m a t i c a l l y f a v o u r s a
dynamic style of driving.
Snow programme " "
Press button " ", after starting the
engine.
T h e g e a r b o x a d a p t s t o d r i v i n g o n s l i p -
pery roads.
This programme improves starting and
drive when traction is poor.
Return to automatic operation
At any time, press the button selec-
ted again to quit the programme en-
gaged and return to auto-adaptive
mode.
If position
N is engaged inadver-
tently while driving, allow the en-
gine to return to idle then engage
position D to accelerate.
Never select position N while the
vehicle is moving.
Never select positions P or R
unless the vehicle is completely
stationary.
When the engine is running at
idle, with the brakes released,
if position
R , D or M is selected,
the vehicle moves even without
the accelerator being pressed.
When the engine is running,
never leave children in the ve-
hicle without supervision.
When carrying out maintenance
with the engine running, apply
the parking brake and select po-
sition P .

Operating fault Maintenance
In the event of a malfunction with the
system, the "ECO OFF" switch warning
l a m p fl a s h e s , t h e n c o m e s o n c o n t i n u -
ously.
Have it checked by a CITROËN dealer
o r a q u a l i fi e d w o r k s h o p .
In the event of a fault in STOP mode,
the vehicle may stall. It is then neces-
sary to switch off the ignition and start
the engine again using the key. Before working under the bon-
net, deactivate the Stop & Start
s y s t e m t o a v o i d a n y r i s k o f i n j u r y
resulting from automatic opera-
tion of START mode.
The Stop & Start system makes
use of advanced technology.
All work on this battery must be
done by a CITROËN dealer or a
q u a l i fi e d w o r k s h o p .
This system requires a battery with a
s p e c i a l s p e c i fi c a t i o n a n d t e c h n o l o g y
(reference numbers available from a
C I T R O Ë N d e a l e r o r a q u a l i fi e d w o r k -
shop).
Fitting a battery not listed by CITROËN
introduces the risk of malfunction of the
system.

CHECKS
Additive level (Diesel with particle
emissions filter)
According to your version of instrument panel,
the additive reservoir low level is indicated by:
- fi x e d i l l u m i n a t i o n o f t h e p a r t i c l e e m i s s i o n s fi l t e r w a r n i n g l a m p , a c c o m p a n i e d b y a n
audible signal and a message that the
p a r t i c l e e m i s s i o n s fi l t e r a d d i t i v e l e v e l i s
too low,
or
- fi x e d i l l u m i n a t i o n o f t h e s e r v i c e w a r n i n g lamp, accompanied by an audible signal
and a message that the particle emissions
fi l t e r a d d i t i v e l e v e l i s t o o l o w .
Topping up
The reservoir must be topped up with-
out delay by a CITROËN dealer or a
q u a l i fi e d w o r k s h o p .
Used products
Avoid prolonged contact of used
o i l o r fl u i d s w i t h t h e s k i n .
M o s t o f t h e s e fl u i d s a r e h a r m f u l
to health or indeed very corro-
sive.
D o n o t d i s c a r d u s e d o i l o r fl u i d s
into sewers or onto the ground.
Take used oil to a CITROËN
d e a l e r o r a q u a l i fi e d w o r k s h o p
( F r a n c e ) o r t o a n a u t h o r i s e d
waste disposal site.
Unless otherwise indicated, check these
components in accordance with the
Maintenance and Warranty Guide and ac-
cording to your engine.
Otherwise, have them checked by a C I T R O Ë N d e a l e r o r a q u a l i fi e d w o r k s h o p .
B a t t e r y
The battery does not require any
maintenance.
H o w e v e r , c h e c k t h a t t h e t e r m i n a l s
are clean and correctly tightened,
particularly in summer and winter.
Air filter and passenger
compartment filter Refer to the Maintenance and

the replacement intervals for

Depending on the environment
( e . g . d u s t y a t m o s p h e r e ) a n d t h e u s e o f
t h e v e h i c l e ( e . g . c i t y d r i v i n g ) , replace

t o t h e " E n g i n e s " s e c t i o n ) .
A c l o g g e d p a s s e n g e r c o m p a r t m e n t fi l t e r
may have an adverse effect on the per-
formance of the air conditioning system
and generate undesirable odours.
Oil filter
R e p l a c e t h e o i l fi l t e r e a c h t i m e
the engine oil is changed.

The presence of this label, in particular
with the Stop & Start system, indicates
t h e u s e o f a s p e c i fi c 1 2 V l e a d - a c i d b a t -
tery with special technology and speci-
fi c a t i o n , f o r w h i c h t h e i n v o l v e m e n t o f a
C I T R O Ë N d e a l e r o r a q u a l i fi e d w o r k -
shop is required when replacing or dis-
connecting the battery.
Failure to observe this recommendation
may shorten the life of the battery. When carrying out work on the battery,
refer to the "Practical information" sec-
tion for details of the precautions to be
taken before disconnecting the battery
and following its reconnection.

Brake pads
Brake wear depends on the
style of driving, particularly in
the case of vehicles used in
town, over short distances. It
may be necessary to have the
condition of the brakes checked, even
between vehicle services.
Unless there is a leak in the system, a
d r o p i n t h e b r a k e fl u i d l e v e l i n d i c a t e s

Manual parking brake
If a loss of effectiveness of this system is noticed, the parking
brake must be checked, even
between two services.
Checking this system must be done by
a C I T R O Ë N d e a l e r o r a q u a l i fi e d w o r k -
shop.
Only use products recommend-
ed by CITROËN or products of
e q u i v a l e n t q u a l i t y a n d s p e c i fi c a -
tion.
In order to optimise the opera-
tion of units as important as the
braking system, CITROËN se-
l e c t s a n d o f f e r s v e r y s p e c i fi c
products.
To avoid damaging the electrical
units, the use of a high pressure
washer in the engine compart-
ment is strictly prohibited .
Particle emission filter (Diesel)
According to your version of instrument
panel, the start of saturation of the par-
t i c l e e m i s s i o n s fi l t e r i s i n d i c a t e d b y :
Following prolonged operation of the vehicle at very low speed or
at idle, you may, in exceptional
circumstances, notice the emis-
sion of water vapour at the ex-
haust on acceleration. This does
not affect the behaviour of the
vehicle or the environment.
