AdBlue® additive and SCR system
f
or
Â
BlueHDi  Diesel  engines
To assure respect for the environment and c
onformity  with  the  new  Euro  6  emissions Â
s
tandard,  without  adversely  affecting  the Â
p
er formance  or  fuel  consumption  of  Diesel Â
e
ngines,  CITROËN  has  taken  the  decision  to Â
e
quip  its  vehicles  with  an  effective  system  that Â
a
ssociates SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction)
with
a  particle  filter  (FAP)  for  the  treatment  of Â
e
xhaust  gases.
Presentation of the SCR system
Using an additive called AdBlue® containing urea, a
Â
catalytic
Â
converter
Â
turns
Â
up
Â
to
Â
85%  of  nitrous o
xides
Â
(NOx)
Â
into
Â
nitrogen
Â
and
Â
water,  which  are
 h
armless
Â
to
Â
health
Â
and
Â
the
Â
environment. Once the AdBlue
® tank is empty, a s
ystem
Â
required
Â
by  regulations  prevents Â
s
tarting
Â
of
Â
the
Â
engine.
If the SCR is faulty, the level of
emissions
Â
from
Â
your  vehicle  will  no Â
l
onger
Â
meet
Â
the
Â
Euro  6  standard:  your Â
v
ehicle
Â
becomes
Â
polluting.
In
Â
the
Â
event
Â
of
Â
a
Â
confirmed  fault Â
w
ith
Â
the
Â
SCR
Â
system,  you  must  go Â
t
o
Â
a
Â
CITROËN
Â
dealer  or  a  qualified Â
w
orkshop
Â
as
Â
soon  as  possible:  after  a Â
r
unning
Â
distance
Â
of  650  miles Â
(1
Â
100
Â
km),
Â
a
Â
system  will  be  triggered Â
a
utomatically
Â
to
Â
prevent  engine  starting.
The AdBlue® additive is held in a special
tank
Â
located
under  the  boot  at  the  rear  of Â
t
he
Â
vehicle.
Â
It  has  a  capacity  of  17  litres:  this Â
p
rovides
Â
a
Â
driving  range  of  about  12  500  miles Â
(
20
Â
000
Â
km),
after  which  an  alert  is  triggered Â
w
arning
Â
you
Â
when  the  reserve  remaining  is Â
e
nough
Â
for
Â
just  1  500  miles  (2  400  km).
During
Â
each
scheduled  service  of  your  vehicle Â
b
y
Â
a
Â
CITROËN  dealer  or  a  qualified  workshop, Â
t
he AdBlue
® additive tank is refilled in order to a
llow
Â
normal  operation  of  the  SCR  system.
If
Â
the
Â
estimated  mileage  between  two  services Â
i
s
Â
greater
Â
than  12  500  miles  (20  000  km),  we Â
r
ecommend
that  you  go  to  a  CITROËN  dealer Â
o
r
Â
a
Â
qualified  workshop  to  have  the  necessary Â
t
op-up
Â
carried  out.

Freezing of the AdBlue® additive
The AdBlue
® additive freezes at
temperatures  below  around  -11°C.
The
Â
SCR
Â
system  includes  a  heater Â
f
or the AdBlue
® tank, allowing you to c
ontinue
Â
driving  in  very  cold  conditions.
Topping-up the AdBlue® additive
Precautions in useFilling the AdBlue® tank is an operation i
ncluded in every routine service on your
vehicle
Â
by
Â
a
Â
CITROËN  dealer  or  a  qualified Â
w
orkshop.
Nevertheless,
Â
given  the  capacity  of  the  tank, Â
i
t
Â
may
Â
be
Â
necessary  to  top-up  the  additive Â
b
etween
Â
services,
more  particularly  if  an  alert Â
(

Â
and  a  message)  signals  the Â
r

You
Â
can
Â
got
Â
to
Â
a
Â
CITROËN  dealer  or  a  qualified Â
w
orkshop.
If
Â
you
Â
envisage
Â
topping-up  yourself,  please Â
r
ead
Â
the
Â
following
Â
warnings  carefully. Keep AdBlue
® out of the reach of
children,
Â
in
Â
its
 original  bottle.
Never transfer AdBlue
® to another
container:
Â
it
Â
would
Â
lose
 its  purity. Never
 dilute  the  additive  with  water.
Never pour the additive into the Diesel
fuel  tank.
Never  top-up  from  an  AdBlue®
dispenser
Â
reserved
Â
for
Â
heavy
Â
goods Â
v

Use only AdBlue
® additive that meets the I
SOÂ 22241
Â
standard.
The
Â
supply
Â
in
Â
a
Â
non-drip  bottle  simplifies Â

Â
You
Â

Â
bottles
Â
from  a  CITROËN  dealer  or  a Â
