Driving advice
Your vehicle is designed principally to drive  on  tarmac  roads  but  it  allows  you Â
t
o drive on other less passable terrain
occasionally.
However,
 it  does  not  permit  off-road Â
d
riving  such  as:

rossing  and  driving  on  terrain Â
w
hich  could  damage  the  underbody Â
o
r  strip  away  components  (fuel Â
p
ipe,  fuel  cooler...)  due  to  obstacles Â
o
r stones in particular,

d
riving  on  terrain  with  steep Â
g
radients  and  poor  grip,
-
Â
c
rossing  a  stream.All terrain (mud, damp grass, ...)
This mode, when moving off, allows considerable spin on the wheel with the least
grip
 to  optimise  clearing  of  the  mud  and  regain Â
g
rip.  At  the  same  time,  the  wheel  with  the  most Â
g
rip  is  controlled  in  such  a  way  as  to  pass  as Â
m
uch  torque  as  possible.
When
 moving,  the  system  optimises  wheel  spin Â
t
o  respond  to  the  driver's  requirements  as  fully Â
a
s  possible.

Sand
This mode allows little spin on the two driving wheels  at  the  same  time  to  allow  the  vehicle  to Â

Do

ehicle  may  become  stuck. You can deactivate certain functions of the

These  functions  are  reactivated  automatically Â

rom  30  mph  (50  km/h)  or  every  time  the Â

gnition  is  switched  back  on.

Operation
Gear shift indicator
System which reduces fuel consumption by advising the driver to change up, on vehicles fitted with a manual gearbox.T he  system  adapts  its  gear  change Â

riving  conditions  (slope,  load,  ...)  and Â

he  demands  of  the  driver  (power, Â

cceleration, Â braking, Â ...).
The
 system  never  suggests:

ngaging  a  lower  gear.

Depending
 on  the  driving  situation  and  your Â

ehicle's  equipment,  the  system  may  advise Â

ou  to  skip  one  (or  more)  gear(s).  You  can Â

ollow  this  instruction  without  engaging  the Â

ntermediate
 g
ears.

he  system  may  suggest  that  you  engage Â

 higher  gear.
The
 information  appears  in  the  instrument Â

anel  in  the  form  of  an  arrow,  accompanied  by Â

he  recommended  gear.
On
 certain  Diesel  versions  with  manual Â
g
earbox,  the  system  may  suggest Â
c
hanging  into  neutral  (N is displayed in
the
 instrument  panel)  so  that  the  engine Â
c
an  go  into  standby  (STOP  mode Â
w
ith  Stop  &  Start),  in  certain  driving Â
c
onditions.
The
 gear  engagement  recommendations  must Â
n
ot  be  considered  compulsory.  In  fact,  the Â
c
onfiguration  of  the  road,  the  amount  of  traffic Â
a
nd  safety  remain  determining  factors  when Â
c
hoosing  the  best  gear.  Therefore,  the  driver Â
r
emains  responsible  for  deciding  whether  or  not Â
t
o  follow  the  advice  given  by  the  system.
This
 system  cannot  be  deactivated.

river.  It  continuously  selects  the  most  suitable Â

ear  taking  account  of:

For
 optimum  acceleration,  when Â

ertaking  another  vehicle  for  example, Â

 the  point  of  resistance.
Temporary control of gear
changing
You can temporarily take over control of gear changes  using  the  steering  mounted  "+" and
"-"
control
 paddles:  if  the  engine  speed  allows,  the
 g
ear  change  is  carried  out.
This function allows you to anticipate certain
situations

Operation
Going into engine STOP
mode
The "ECO" warning  lamp  comes  on i
n  the  instrument  panel  and  the  engine g
oes  into  standby  automatically:

in neutral, and you release the clutch
pedal.

Under-inflation detection
The system monitors the pressures in the four t
yres,  once  the  vehicle  is  moving.
It
 compares  the  information  given  by  the  four Â
w
heel speed sensors with reference values,
which must be reinitialised ever y time the
tyre pressures are adjusted or a wheel
changed .
The
 system  triggers  an  alert  as  soon  as  it Â
d
etects a drop in the inflation pressure of one
or
 more  tyres. The
 under-inflation  detection  system Â
d
oes  not  replace  the  need  for  vigilance Â
o
n  the  part  of  the  driver.
This
 system  does  not  avoid  the  need  to Â
c
heck  the  tyre  pressures  (including  the Â
s
pare  wheel)  every  month  as  well  as Â
b
efore  a  long  journey.
Driving
 with  under-inflated  tyres  impairs Â
r
oad  holding,  extends  braking  distances Â
a
nd  causes  premature  tyre  wear, Â
par
ticularly under arduous condition
(high
 loading,  high  speed,  long  journey).
System
 which  automatically  checks  the  pressures  of  the  tyres  while  driving.
The inflation pressures defined for
your vehicle can be found on the tyre
pressure
 label.

A label on the inside of the fuel filler flap
reminds
 you  of  the  type  of  fuel  to  use, Â

epending  on  your  engine  type.
Additions
 of  fuel  must  be  of  at  least  5  litres  to Â

e  registered  by  the  fuel  gauge.
When

first  comes  on,  about 5 litres of fuel
remain

in

the  tank.
Until sufficient fuel has been added, this
warning

lamp  appears  every  time  the  ignition Â

requency

Refuel

 the  filler  cap  may  result  in  an  inrush  of Â

ir.  This  is  entirely  normal  and  results  from  the Â
s
ealing  of  the  fuel  system.
With Stop & Start, never refuel with the
system
 in  STOP  mode;  you  must  switch Â
o
ff  the  ignition  with  the  key.

helps  to  reduce  the  level  of  harmful  emissions Â

n  the  exhaust  gases.
For petrol engines, you must use unleaded
fuel.
The  filler  neck  is  narrower,  allowing  only Â
u
nleaded  petrol  nozzles  to  be  introduced.
Your  vehicle  is  equipped  with  a  safety  device Â
w
hich cuts off the fuel supply in the event of a
collision.

If you have put in the wrong fuel
for your vehicle, you must have the
fuel tank drained and filled with
the correct fuel before star ting the
engine.

Misfuel prevention (Diesel)*
Operation
When a petrol filler nozzle is introduced into the
fuel filler  neck  of  your  Diesel  vehicle,  it  comes Â
i
nto  contact  with  the  flap.  The  system  remains Â
c
losed  and  prevents  filling.
Do not persist but introduce a Diesel type
filler nozzle.

 Depending  on  the  country  of  sale.
Mechanical
 device  which  prevents  filling  the  tank  of  a  Diesel  vehicle  with  petrol.  It  avoids  the  risk  of Â
e
ngine  damage  that  can  result  from  filling  with  the  wrong  fuel.
It  remains  possible  to  use  a  fuel  can  to Â
f
ill  the  tank.
In  order  to  ensure  a  good  flow  of  fuel, Â
d
o not place the nozzle of the fuel can
in direct contact with the flap of the
misfuel  prevention  device  and  pour Â
s
l ow l y.Travelling abroad
As Diesel fuel pump nozzles may b
e different in other countries, the
presence
 of  the  misfuel  prevention Â

evice  may  make  refuelling  impossible.

 travelling  abroad,  we Â

ecommend  that  you  check  with  the Â

ehicle  is  suitable  for  the  fuel  pumps  in Â

he  country  in  which  you  want  to  travel.

Fuel used for petrol
engines
The petrol engines are compatible with E
10 type  petrol  biofuels  (containing  10  % Â

thanol),  conforming  to  European  standards Â

N  228  and  EN  15376.

 type  fuels  (containing  up  to  85  %  ethanol) Â

re  reserved  exclusively  for  vehicles  marketed Â

or  the  use  of  this  type  of  fuel  (BioFlex Â

ehicles).  The  quality  of  the  ethanol  must Â

omply  with  European  standard  EN  15293.

engines
The Diesel engines are compatible with biofuels  available  at  the  pumps  which  meet Â

urrent  and  future  European  standards:

The use of any other type of (bio)fuel
(vegetable
 or  animal  oils,  pure  or  diluted, Â

omestic  fuel...)  is  strictly  prohibited  (risk  of Â

amage  to  the  engine  and  fuel  system).

 the  use  of  Diesel  fuel  additives  that  meet Â

he  standard  B715000  is  authorised.

Coolant level
The coolant level should be close
to the  "MA X"  mark  but  should  never Â

xceed  it.

addition,  as  the  cooling  system  is  pressurised,

before  carrying  out  any  work.

Changing the coolant
The coolant does not have to be replaced at routine services.
The cooling fan may star t after switching
off the engine: take care with ar ticles and
clothing that might be caught by the fan
blades. When  the  engine  is  warm,  the  temperature  of Â

he  coolant  is  regulated  by  the  fan.
Fluid specification
The coolant must conform to the ma
nufacturer's r ecommendations.

For optimum cleaning and to avoid freezing, this  fluid  must  not  be  topped  up  or  replaced Â

Do not discard used oil or fluids into
sewers  or  onto  the  ground.
Take  used  oil  to  a  CITROËN  dealer  or Â
a
 qualified  workshop  (France)  or  to  an Â
a
uthorised  waste  disposal  site.
Used products
this warning lamp, accompanied by an audible s
ignal  and  a  message  that  the  particle  filter Â

dditive  level  is  too  low.
