AdBlue® additive and SCR system
f
or
Â
BlueHDi  Diesel  engines
To assure respect for the environment and c
onformity  with  the  new  Euro  6  emissions Â
s
tandard,  without  adversely  affecting  the Â
p
er formance  or  fuel  consumption  of  Diesel Â
e
ngines,  CITROËN  has  taken  the  decision  to Â
e
quip  its  vehicles  with  an  effective  system  that Â
a
ssociates SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction)
with
a  particle  filter  (FAP)  for  the  treatment  of Â
e
xhaust  gases.
Presentation of the SCR system
Using an additive called AdBlue® containing urea, a
Â
catalytic
Â
converter
Â
turns
Â
up
Â
to
Â
85%  of  nitrous o
xides
Â
(NOx)
Â
into
Â
nitrogen
Â
and
Â
water,  which  are
 h
armless
Â
to
Â
health
Â
and
Â
the
Â
environment. Once the AdBlue
® tank is empty, a s
ystem
Â
required
Â
by  regulations  prevents Â
s
tarting
Â
of
Â
the
Â
engine.
If the SCR is faulty, the level of
emissions
Â
from
Â
your  vehicle  will  no Â
l
onger
Â
meet
Â
the
Â
Euro  6  standard:  your Â
v
ehicle
Â
becomes
Â
polluting.
In
Â
the
Â
event
Â
of
Â
a

w
ith
Â

Â
SCR
Â
system,  you  must  go Â

Â
as
Â
soon  as  possible:  after  a Â

Â
distance
Â
of  650  miles Â
(1
Â
100
Â
km),
Â
a
Â
system  will  be  triggered Â
a
utomatically
Â
to
Â
prevent  engine  starting.
The AdBlue® additive is held in a special
tank
Â
located
under  the  boot  at  the  rear  of Â
t
he
Â
vehicle.
Â
It  has  a  capacity  of  17  litres:  this Â
p
rovides
Â
a
Â
driving  range  of  about  12  500  miles Â
(
20
Â

Â
km),
after  which  an  alert  is  triggered Â
w
arning
Â
you
Â
when  the  reserve  remaining  is Â
e
nough
Â
for
Â
just  1  500  miles  (2  400  km).

t
he AdBlue
® additive tank is refilled in order to a

If
Â
the
Â
estimated  mileage  between  two  services Â

greater
Â
than  12  500  miles  (20  000  km),  we Â
