Limit the causes of excess consumption
Spread loads throughout the vehicle; place the heaviest items in the bottom  of  the  boot,  as  close  as  possible  to  the  rear  seats.
Limit
the  loads  carried  in  the  vehicle  and  reduce  wind  resistance  (roof Â
b
ars,  roof  rack,  bicycle  carrier,  trailer...).  Use  a  roof  box  in  preference.
Remove
roof  bars  and  roof  racks  after  use.
At
the  end  of  winter,  remove  snow  tyres  and  refit  your  summer  tyres.
Observe the recommendations on
maintenance
Check the tyre pressures regularly, when cold, referring to the label in the  door  aperture,  driver's  side.
Carry
 out  this  check  in  particular:
-
Â
b
efore  a  long  journey,
-
Â
a
t  each  change  of  season,
-
Â
a
fter  a  long  period  out  of  use.
Don't
forget  the  spare  wheel  and  the  tyres  on  any  trailer  or  caravan.
Have
your  vehicle  serviced  regularly  (engine  oil,  oil  filter,  air  filter, Â
p
assenger  compartment  filter...)  and  observe  the  schedule  of Â
o
perations  in  the  personalised  servicing  schedule  for  your  vehicle.
With
a  BlueHDi  Diesel  engine,  if  the  SCR  system  develops  a  fault, Â
y
our  vehicle  becomes  polluting;  go  to  a  CITROËN  dealer  or  a  qualified Â
w
orkshop  without  delay  to  have  the  emissions  of  nitrous  oxides  brought Â
w
ithin  the  limits  set  by  the  directive.
When
refuelling,  do  not  continue  after  the  third  cut-off  of  the  nozzle  to Â
a
void  any  over flow.
At
the  wheel  of  your  new  vehicle,  it  is  only  after  the  first  1  800  miles Â
(3
000  kilometres)  that  you  will  see  the  fuel  consumption  settle  down  to Â
a
 consistent  average.

Ventilation
Air intake
The air circulating in the passenger compartment  is  filtered  and  originates  either Â
f
rom  the  outside  via  the  grille  located  at  the Â
b
ase  of  the  windscreen  or  from  the  inside  in  air Â
re
circulation
 m
ode.
Air treatment
The incoming air follows various routes depending  on  the  controls  selected  by  the Â
d
river:
-
Â
d
irect  arrival  in  the  passenger Â
c
ompartment  (air  intake),
-
Â
p
assage  through  a  heating  circuit  (heating),
-
Â
p
assage  through  a  cooling  circuit  (air Â
c
onditioning).

In order for these systems to be fully effective, follow the operation and maintenance guidelines belo w:
F
Â
T
o  obtain  an  even  air  distribution,  take  care  not  to  obstruct  the  exterior  air  intake  grilles Â
l
ocated at the base of the windscreen, the nozzles, the vents and the air outlets, as well
as
the  air  extractor  located  in  the  boot.
F
Â
D
o  not  cover  the  sunshine  sensor,  located  on  the  dashboard;  this  is  used  for  regulation Â
o
f  the  air  conditioning  system.
F
Â
O
perate  the  air  conditioning  system  for  at  least  5  to  10  minutes,  once  or  twice  a  month Â
t
o  keep  it  in  per fect  working  order.
F
Â
E
nsure  that  the  passenger  compartment  filter  is  in  good  condition  and  have  the  filter Â
e
lements  replaced  regularly.
  W
e  recommend  the  use  of  a  combined  passenger  compartment  filter.  Thanks  to  its Â
s
pecial active additive, it contributes to the purification of the air breathed by the
occupants
and  the  cleanliness  of  the  passenger  compartment  (reduction  of  allergic Â
s
ymptoms,  bad  odours  and  greasy  deposits).
F
Â
T
o  ensure  correct  operation  of  the  air  conditioning  system,  you  are  also  advised  to  have Â
i
t  checked  regularly  as  recommended  in  the  maintenance  and  warranty  guide.
F
Â
I
f  the  system  does  not  produce  cold  air,  switch  it  off  and  contact  a  CITROËN  dealer  or  a Â
q
ualified
 w
orkshop.
Recommendations for ventilation and air conditioning
If after an extended stop in sunshine, the  i nterior  t emperature  i s  v ery  h igh,  f irst Â
v
entilate  the  passenger  compartment  for Â
a
 few  moments.
Put
the  air  flow  control  at  a  setting  high Â
e
nough  to  quickly  change  the  air  in  the Â
p
assenger
 c
ompartment.
The
air  conditioning  system  does  not Â
c
ontain chlorine and does not present
any
 danger  to  the  ozone  layer.
The condensation created by the air
conditioning
 results  in  a  discharge Â
o
f water under the vehicle which is
per fectly
 normal.

Stop & Start
The heating and air conditioning s ystems  only  work  when  the  engine  is Â

Checks
12 V battery
The battery does not require any maintenance.
H owever,  check  regularly  that  the  terminals Â
a
re  correctly  tightened  (versions  without  quick Â
r
elease  terminals)  and  that  the  connections Â
a
re  clean.Refer to the manufacturer's service schedule for details of the
replacement
 intervals  for  these Â
c
omponents.
Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Replace the oil filter each time the e ngine  oil  is  changed.
Refer
 to  the  manufacturer's Â
s
ervice schedule for details of
the
 replacement  interval  for  this Â
c
omponent.
Oil filter
Unless other wise indicated, check these components in accordance with the manufacturer's service schedule and according to your engine.
O ther wise,  have  them  checked  by  a  CITROËN  dealer  or  a  qualified  workshop.
Depending
on  the  environment  (e.g.  dusty Â
a
tmosphere)  and  the  use  of  the  vehicle Â
(e.g.
city  driving),  replace them twice as often
if necessary .
A
clogged  passenger  compartment  filter  may Â
h
ave  an  adverse  effect  on  the  per formance Â
o
f  the  air  conditioning  system  and  generate Â
u
ndesirable
 o
dours.
Particle filter (Diesel)
The start of saturation of the
particle filter is indicated by the
fixed illumination  of  this  warning Â
l
amp  accompanied  by  a  warning Â
m
essage.
As
Â
soon
Â
as
 the  traffic  conditions  permit, Â
r
egenerate
Â
the  filter  by  driving  at  a  speed  of  at Â
l
east
Â
40
Â
mph  (60  km/h)  until  the  warning  lamp Â
g
oes
Â
off.
If
Â
the
Â
warning  lamp  stays  on,  this  indicates  a Â
l
ow
Â
additive  level.
Refer
Â
to
Â
the  "Diesel  additive  level"  section.
On a new vehicle, the first particle
filter
Â
regeneration  operations  may  be Â
a
ccompanied  by  a  "burning"  smell, Â
w
hich  is  per fectly  normal.
Following
 prolonged  operation  of  the Â
v
ehicle at very low speed or at idle,
you
Â
may,  in  exceptional  circumstances, Â
n
otice  the  emission  of  water  vapour  at Â
t
he
Â
exhaust  on  acceleration.  This  does Â
n
ot affect the behaviour of the vehicle
or
Â
the  environment.
