The engine can only be started when the lever is at position P or N.
A safety device ensures that starting is impossible in the other positions.

AUTOMATIC FORWARD DRIVE
The gearbox always selects the gear best adapted to the following param-eters:Style of driving.
Road p r o fi l e .Vehicle load.
In this way the gearbox operates without the need for your intervention.
F o r c e r t a i n m a n o e u v r e s ( f o r e x a m p l e o v e r t a k i n g ) , i t i s p o s s i b l e t o o b t a i n maximum acceleration by pressing hard down on the accelerator pedal , which may trigger automatic changedown to a lower gear.
Remarks:During braking, the gearbox may kick down automatically in order to offer an effective engine brake.
If you suddenly lift your foot off the accelerator, the gearbox will guard Ifyour safety by not changing up again.

OPERATION IN SPORT OR SNOW AUTOMATIC MODE
With the lever on D, press button A to select any of the driving modes SPORT, SNOW or NORMAL.
NORMAL mode is selected by default when you start the engine. This driv-ing mode is designed for the more usual types of driving condit ions.
No warning lamp will light up in the instrument panel.
SNOW mode is for a more cautious driving style on slippery roads.
The warning lamp in the instrument panel is lit up.
SPORT mode is for more responsive driving, to provide maximum performance and acceleration.
The warning lamp in the instrument panel is lit up.
Remark: The driving mode selected before you switched off the engine will be retained the next time you start up.
Flashing of the warning lamp for the position requested signals that this position has not yet been reached. W h e n t h e w a r n i n g l a m p i s p e r m a n e n t , t h e p o s i t i o n i s c o n fi r m e d .
If there is an operating fault:A sharp hesitation may be felt when you select AR for reverse gear.
The gearbox is stuck in a gear.
Do n o t e x c e e d 1 0 0 k m / h ( 6 2 m p h ) .

The ESP system offers increased driving safety but is not in place to encourage the driver to take addi-tional risks or to drive at excessive speeds.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAMME (ESP) AND TRACTION CONTROL (ASR)
These systems are closely associated with ABS and additional to it. In the event of a loss of control of the vehicle by the driver, the ESP system acts automatically on one or more wheels and also on the engine to bring the vehicle back on trajectory. The ASR system optimises traction and prevents wheel spin by acting on the brakes of the driving wheels as well as on the engine. It also improves steering stability during acceleration.
OPERATION
When either the ESP or the ASR system is brought into operation the warning lamp “ESP/ASR ” fl a s h e s .
DEACTIVATION
I n e x c e p t i o n a l c o n d i t i o n s ( v e h i c l e s t u c k i n s n o w , s o f t g r o u n d , e t c . ) i t m a y prove useful to deactivate the ESP/ASR systems to allow the wheels to spin and thus regain traction.
Press on button A, the “ESP/ASR” warning lamp, as well as the lamp on the button A, light up. The ESP/ASR systems are no longer active.
The ESP/ASR systems will activate again:Automatically after the ignition has been switched off.
Automatically when you drive at above approx. 50 km/h (approx. 3 1 m p h ) .Manually with another press on button A.
OPERATIONAL ANOMALY
Should there be a system malfunction, the “ESP/ASR” warning lamp will light up.
Contact a CITROËN dealer to have the system checked.

With dipped beams or main beams, the Directional headlamps function turns the headlamps in the direction the road ahead is taking.

This driving assistance device warns you when you unwittingly cross a l a n e m a r k i n g ( e i t h e r a c o n t i n u o u s o r a d o t t e d l i n e o n t h e r o a d s u r f a c e ) . I t i s designed for use on motorways and dual carriageways, operating o nly at speeds above around 80 km / h (50 mph ).
ACTIVATION/DEACTIVATION
A press on button 1 activates the function, the warning lamp on the button lights up.
A second press on button 1 deactivates the function, the warning lamp on the button goes out.
W h e n y o u s t a r t t h e e n g i n e , t h e m o d e ( a c t i v a t e d / d e a c t i v a t e d ) s e l e c t e d w h e n you stopped the engine is retained.
OPERATION

The system does not alert you if one of your direction indicators is operating and for approx. 20 seconds after the direction indicator has stopped.

In certain cases it may trigger an alert that is unnecessary, for e xample if the vehicle passes over a directional arrow or some unusual road marking.

LOCKING/UNLOCKING FROM THE INSIDE
A press on the control A operates the electric central locking and unlocking, provided all the doors are closed.
It is still possible to open the doors from the inside.
Remark: Control A is inactive if the vehicle has been locked using the remote control or the key.
The three statuses for locking/unlocking the vehicle are signalled by the warning lamp on the con-trol A:It fl a s h e s w h e n t h e v e h i c l e i s locked, engine stopped.
It lights up when the ignition is switched on, vehicle locked.It goes out when the vehicle is unlocked.

AIR CONDITIONING
This system automatically adjusts the temperature, the fl o w o f a i r a n d t h e d i s t r i b u t i o n o f a i r i n s i d e t h e c a b i n , depending on your desired comfort level.
Provided you retain automatic mode (by pressing button “AUTO ” ) a n d a l l t h e a i r v e n t s a r e o p e n , y o u w i l l m a i n -tain an optimum comfort level, also removing humidity and misting, whatever the ambient climatic conditions.
The temperature inside the cabin cannot be lower than the temperature outside if the air conditioning is not operating.
To be effective, the air conditioning should only be used with the windows closed. If after a lengthy stop in bright sunlight the interior temperature is excessive, air the passenger compartment by opening the windows for a few moments, then close them again.
To keep the air conditioning compressor well sealed, it is essential to operate the air conditioning at least once in every month.
The air conditioning operates by using power from the engine. This results in a slight increase in fuel con-sumption.
Sensors
The automatic regulation of the air conditioning inside the cabin uses a number of sensors (sunlight, ambient t e m p e r a t u r e , i n s i d e t e m p e r a t u r e , e t c . ) r e l i e v i n g y o u o f the need to make your own adjustments within a normal temperature range.
The humidity sensor is there to prevent misting inside the vehicle.
Be careful not to obstruct the sensors A and C.
Air inlet
Check that the exterior grille for the air inlet, at the bot-tom of the windscreen, is clean and free of dead leaves, snow, etc.
If washing the vehicle with a high pressure jet, avoid targeting the air inlet zone.
Air circulation
For your comfort we advise you to maintain a proper distribution of air within the cabin, both at the front and at the rear.
The air vents to the face have thumbwheels so that you c a n a d j u s t t h e fl o w o f a i r , a n d g r i l l e s t o o r i e n t t h e d i r e c -tion.
T h e r e a r e a i r v e n t s o n t h e fl o o r u n d e r n e a t h t h e f r o n t seats and on the rear control panel, for enhanced heat-ing of the rear seat positions.
Do not obstruct the air outlets located in the boot area.

Additional heating
Vehicles with an HDi engine may be provided with auto-matic additional heating for enhanced comfort.
It is normal to notice slight odours or smoke emissions, especially when the vehicle is idling or stationary.

Remarks:When starting from cold, in order to prevent unwanted c o l d a i r , t h e a i r fl o w w i l l i n c r e a s e o n l y g r a d u a l l y t o i t s optimum level.
If you enter the vehicle after a fairly prolonged stop Ifand the temperature inside the vehicle is far from comfortable, it serves no purpose to modify the tem-perature that is displayed as an attempt to go imme-diately to the desired comfort level. The system automatically uses all of its power to compensate the temperature gap as quickly as possible.
Remarks:Water arising from the condensation in the air con-aterditioning drains out through a hole provided for this purpose ; a pool of water may thus form underneath the vehicle when stationary.
Whatever the time of year, even in cool weather the Whateverair conditioning is useful in removing humidity and misting.You are advised to have the air conditioning sys-tem checked on a regular basis. See “Maintenance Guide”.
If you are towing a heavy trailer and outside tem-Ifperatures are high, the air conditioning may be tem-porarily paused if the engine cooling requires this.

5. FRONT DEMISTING - DEICING
Press button 5 for rapid clear windows. The warning lamp comes on. This system controls the air condi- t i o n i n g , t h e a i r fl o w a n d t h e e n t r y o f a i r f r o m o u t s i d e . I t sends the ventilation towards the windscreen and side windows.
A press on the 1 button returns you to “AUTO” mode.
6. REAR DEMISTING - DEICING
Press button 6, with the engine running, to start a rapid deicing or demisting of the rear screen and rear view mirrors. The warning lamp comes on.
This mode stops automatically as a function of the out-side temperature. It can be paused by pressing again on button 6 or by stopping the engine.
In the latter case, demisting will resume when the engine is switched on again.Note: The heated rear screen operates independently of the automatic air conditioning.
7. AIR RECIRCULATION – ENTRY OF AIR FROM OUTSIDE
Press successively on button 7 to select air entry mode. The corresponding warning lamp lights up:Recirculation of air inside the cabinThis mode is for excluding unpleasant odours or smoke coming from outside. It should be cancelled as soon as possible to re-allow fresh air into the cabin and thus prevent misting.
Entry of air from outside“AUTO” mode is deactivated.
