Your vehicle is equipped with either\4
an air-conditioning system and pos-
sibly additional air conditioning in
the rear*
or
\4
a heater* and possibly additional
rear heating* The air-conditioning system is only oper-
ational while the engine is running. You
can use the air-conditioning system to
regulate or control the temperature au-
tomatically. The vehicle is either heated
or cooled, depending on the tempera-
ture selected and the outside tempera-
ture.
The combination filter removes most
dust particles, pollen and unpleasant
odors from the outside air.

The interval for replacing the filter de-
pends on environmental factors, e.g.
high air pollution. The interval may be
shorter than that indicated in the Ser-
vice Booklet.
iCondensation may collect under the
vehicle while Tempmatic is in opera-
tion.
Warning
G
Air flowing out of the air vents in the foot-
well when Tempmatic is in operation may
be very hot or very cold. There is therefore
a risk of frostbite or burns to bare skin in
the immediate proximity of these outlets.
Keep bare skin away from these air out-
lets. If necessary, direct the airflow into a
different area of the vehicle interior using
the air distribution control.
iIf the vehicle interior has been heat-
ed up, ventilate the vehicle before
starting your journey or briefly
switch to air-recirculation mode for
faster cooling.
Keep the air inlet on the hood free
from ice and snow.
Position the sliders for the center air
vents in the central position to pro-
vide practically draft-free ventilation.

Alter the air distribution by turning
the air vents.
The heater is operational when the engi-
ne is running. Depending on the tempe-
rature selected and the outside
temperature, it heats or ventilates.
The dust filter removes most dust partic-
les and pollen from the outside air. The interval for replacing the filter de-
pends on environmental factors, e.g.
high air pollution. The interval may be
shorter than that indicated in the Ser-
vice Booklet.!
CAUTION
Never close all the air vents, other-
wise there is a risk of damage to the
air-conditioning system in the rear
compartment.

Warning
G
Follow the settings recommended on the
following pages for heating or cooling.
The windows could otherwise fog up. As a
result, you could be distracted from road
and traffic conditions and cause an acci-
dent.
Warning
G
Air flowing out of the air vents in the foot-
well when the heater is in operation may
be very hot. There is, therefore, a risk of
burns to bare skin in the immediate proxi-
mity of these outlets. Keep bare skin away
from these air outlets. If necessary, direct
the airflow into a different area of the ve-
hicle interior using the air distribution
control.

±
The yellow engine diagnostic
indicator lamp lights up or
flashes while the engine is
running.
The fuel tank has run dry.
The engine may be running in emergency mode.
\1Refuel at the nearest refueling station.
\1On vehicles with a diesel engine:
Bleed the fuel system (\2page 544).
\1
Start the engine three to four times after refu-
eling. Emergency mode will be canceled. You
do not need to have your vehicle checked.
There is a malfunction:
\4in the fuel injection system
\4in the ignition system
1
\4in the exhaust system.
The emission limit values may be exceeded and
the engine may be running in emergency mode.
Engine power output may be reduced.
\1Have the vehicle checked immediately at
an authorized Sprinter Dealer.
‰
The yellow air cleaner indica-
tor lamp
2 lights up while the
ignition is on.
The service limit for the air cleaner has been
reached. The air cleaner is dirty.
\1Have the filter cartridge replaced at an au-
thorized Sprinter Dealer.
1 Only vehicles with a gasoline engine.
2 Only vehicles with a diesel engine.

\1
Drain the fuel filter again if the
/
indicator lamp remains lit.If the fuel tank on a vehicle with diesel
engine has been run dry, there is a pos-
sibility that the engine may not start im-
mediately after refueling because air
may remain in the fuel system.
After refueling:
\1
Switch on the ignition for approxi-
mately 10 seconds.
\1
Start the engine repeatedly for no
more than 60 seconds until it runs
smoothly.
If the engine does not start:
\1
Wait approximately 2 minutes.
\1
Then start the engine repeatedly
again for no more than 60 seconds
until it runs smoothly.
If this attempt also fails, do not continue
to start the engine. Consult an autho-
rized Sprinter Dealer.
Environmental note
H
Have the drained liquid disposed of at an
authorized Sprinter Dealer.!
CAUTION
If the
/
indicator lamp remains
lit even after draining for the second
time, have the cause checked imme-
diately at an authorized Sprinter
Dealer.
Bleeding the fuel systemiToo many attempts to start the en-
gine could drain the battery.
