Load compartment motion detector*On panel vans equipped with a motion
detector in the load compartment, the
rear interior lighting may also switch on
if motion is detected.
The rear interior lighting can be switched
on by the motion detector with a delay of
no more than 4 seconds if:

the switch on the rear interior lamp
(\2
page 139) is set to “automatic
control”
\4
the vehicle is stationary, the hand-
brake is applied and the service
brake is not applied
or
\4
the selector lever is in position
P and
the service brake is not applied
\4
the vehicle has not been locked from
the outside using the key
Warning

Motion detectors work with invisible in-
frared beams emitted by LEDs (Light
Emitting Diodes).
Do not view invisible infrared radiation, la-
ser class 1M, directly using optical instru-
ments.
Your eyes could otherwise be injured.
iIf the motion detector detects move-
ment in the load compartment when
the vehicle is stationary, the rear in-
terior lighting switches on for ap-
proximately 2 minutes. If new
movements are detected, the dura-
tion resumes from the beginning and
the rear interior lighting remains
switched on.
iThe motion detector switches off auto-
matically if no change is detected in the
vehicle for several hours, e.g. door
opened, ignition key turned, etc.This prevents the battery from dis-
charging.

The installation of the antenna must be
approved by a qualified specialist work-
shop.
Always have maintenance work carried
out at a qualified specialist workshop,
e.g. an authorized Sprinter Dealer.
Warning

Only use the telephone when road, weath-
er and traffic conditions permit you to do
so. You will otherwise be too distracted. If
you are not using the hands-free system,
pull over to make a phone call.
Bear in mind that at a speed of just
30 mph (approx. 50 km/h), your vehicle
is covering a distance of 44 feet (approx.
14 m) every second.
Telephones without exterior antennas
may interfere with the vehicle electronics
and thereby jeopardize the operational
safety of the vehicle.
iObserve all legal requirements.iThe cell phone battery will be
charged depending on the charge
status and the position of the key in
the ignition lock. The cell phone dis-
play indicates the charging process.

Pull retainer

upward and slide the
battery out of its anchorage in the di-
rection of travel.

Fold the clip upward and remove the
battery from the battery recess.
Auxiliary battery* in the engine com-
partment

Disconnect the battery
(\2
page 577).

Unscrew the bolts preventing the
battery from moving around in the
engine compartment.

Remove the battery retainer and
take out the battery.
\1
Recharge the removed battery. Ob-
serve the notes in the operating in-
structions for your battery charger.

Reinstall the battery in the reverse
order.Recharging the battery!
CAUTION
Only charge the installed battery us-
ing a battery charger tested and ap-
proved by the manufacturer. These
devices allow you to charge the bat-
tery while it is installed. The vehicle’s
electronics system may otherwise be
damaged.
