SYMBOLS
Some car components have coloured labels whose symbols indicate precautions to be observed when using this component.
A plate summarising these symbols can also be found under the bonnet.
CHANGES/ALTERATIONS TO THE CAR
IMPORTANT Any change or alteration of the car might seriously affect its safety and road holding, thus causing accidents, in
which the occupants could even be fatally injured.
IMPORTANT The use of these devices inside the passenger compartment (without an external aerial) may cause the electrical
systems to malfunction. This could compromise the safety of the vehicle in addition to constituting a potential hazard for
passengers' health.
IMPORTANT Take care when fitting additional spoilers, alloy wheel rims or non-standard wheel hubs: they could reduce the
ventilation of the brakes and affect efficiency under sharp, repeated braking or on long descents. Make sure that nothing
obstructs the pedal stroke (mats, etc.).

SIDE BAGS
To help increase occupant protection in
the event of certain side impact
collisions, the vehicle is equipped with
front side bags (for versions/markets,
where provided) and window bags.
Side bag
(for versions/markets, where provided)
These comprise two types of bags
located in the front seat backrests fig.
92 which protect the pelvic, chest
and shoulder area of the occupants in
the event of a side impact of
medium-high severity.
Window bag
This consists of a "curtain" bag housed
behind the roof side linings and covered
by special trims fig. 93.It is designed to protect the head of
front and rear occupants in the event of
a side collision, thanks to the wide
cushion inflation surface.
The deployment of side bags in the
event of side impacts of low severity is
not required.
In the event of a side impact, the
system provides best protection if the
passenger sits on the seat in a correct
position, thus allowing correct window
bag deployment.
Important notes
93) 94) 95) 96) 97) 98) 99) 100) 101)
Do not wash the seats with water or
pressurised steam (wash by hand or at
automatic seat washing stations).
The front airbags and/or side bags may
be deployed in the event of sharp
impacts to the underbody of the car
(e.g. impact with steps, pavements,
potholes or road bumps etc.).When the airbag deploys it emits a
small amount of dust: the dust is
harmless and does not indicate the
beginning of a fire. The dust may irritate
the skin and eyes however: in this
case, wash with neutral soap
and water.
Airbag checking, repair and
replacement must be carried out at a
Fiat Dealership.
If the car is scrapped, have the airbag
system deactivated at a Fiat Dealership.
Pretensioners and airbags are
deployed in different ways on the basis
of the type of collision. Failure to
activate one or more of the devices
does not indicate a system malfunction.
WARNING
86)Do not apply stickers or other objects
on the steering wheel, on the dashboard in
the passenger side airbag area, on side
upholstery on the roof or on the seats.
Never put objects (e.g. mobile phones) on
the passenger side of the dashboard
since they could interfere with correct
inflation of the passenger airbag and also
cause serious injury to the passengers.
87)Always drive with your hands on the
rim of the steering wheel so that the airbag
can inflate freely if required. Do not drive
bent over the steering wheel, but rather sit
upright with your back firmly resting against
the seat back.

With third row of rear seats not
folded: remove the luggage-covering
curtain (which must be positioned
in front of second row of seats) then
place the punctured tyre in the luggage
compartment, positioning it as shown
in fig. 129 (wheel hub facing the inside
of the passenger compartment in
order to prevent the wheel from falling
when closing the tailgate).
REFITTING THE
STANDARD WHEEL
Versions with steel wheels
make sure the contact surfaces
between standard wheel and hub are
clean and free from impurities so that
the fixing stud bolts will not come
loose;
fit the standard wheel inserting the 5
stud bolts into the holes;
press-fit the wheel cap, aligning the
special splining (on the cap) with the
inflation valve;
using the spanner provided, tighten
the fixing stud bolts;
lower the car and remove the jack;
using the spanner provided, fully
tighten the stud bolts in the sequence
shown previously.
Versions with alloy rims
insert the wheel on the hub and
using the spanner provided tighten the
stud bolts;
lower the car and remove the jack;
using the spanner provided, fully
tighten the 5 stud bolts in the sequence
shown;
reinstall the hub cap, taking care to
position the three plastic pins in the
dedicated seats on the wheel. Slightly
press the cap to prevent any damage
to the plastic pins.
IMPORTANT If it is not fitted correctly,
the hub cap may detach when the
vehicle is running.
At the end of the operation
Proceed as follows:
stow the space-saver wheel in the
compartment provided in the boot;
place the jack and the other tools in
their container;
arrange the container and tools on
the space-saver wheel;
correctly reposition the luggage
compartment mat.
WARNING
122)The space-saver wheel (for
versions/markets where provided) is
specific to your car, do not use it on other
models, or use the space-saver wheel
of other models on your car. The
space-saver wheel must only be used in
the event of an emergency. Never use it for
more than strictly necessary and never
exceed 80 km/h. On the space-saver
wheel there is an orange label,
summarising the main warnings regarding
space-saver wheel usage restrictions.
Never remove or cover the label. The label
contains the following indications in four
languages: "Warning! For temporary use
only! 80 km/h max.! Replace with standard
wheel as soon as possible. Never cover
this indication." Never apply a wheel cap
on a space-saver wheel.
123)Alert other drivers that the car is
stationary in compliance with local
regulations: hazard warning lights, warning
triangle, etc. Any passengers on board
should leave the car, especially if it is
heavily laden. Passengers should stay
away from on-coming traffic while the
wheel is being changed.

WHEELS AND TYRES
SUGGESTIONS ABOUT
THE ROTATION OF THE
TYRES
166)77) 78) 79) 80)
The front and rear tyres are subject to
different loads and stress due to
steering, manoeuvres and braking. For
this reason they are subject to uneven
wear.
To resolve this problem, tyres should be
rotated at the appropriate time. This
operation is recommended for tyres
with a deep tread pattern, suitable both
for on-road and off-road driving.
Tyre rotation contributes to the
preservation of the grip and traction
performance on wet, muddy or snowy
roads, guaranteeing optimal driveability
of the car.
In the case of irregular wear of the
tyres, the reason must be identified and
corrected before rotating them.
WARNING
166)Do not cross switch the tyres if they
are "unidirectional" type. In this case,
always take care not to fit the tyres with a
direction of rotation that is opposite to that
indicated: you would risk losing grip and
control of the vehicle.
WARNING
77)The road holding qualities of the car
also depend on the correct inflation
pressure of the tyres.
78)If tyre pressure is too low, the tyre may
overheat and be severely damaged as a
result.
79)Do not switch tyres from the righthand
side of the vehicle to the lefthand side,
and vice versa.
80)Never submit alloy rims to repainting
treatments requiring the use of
temperatures exceeding 150°C. The
mechanical properties of the wheels could
be impaired.
BODYWORK
PRESERVING THE
BODYWORK
Paintwork
81)6)
Touch up abrasions and scratches
immediately to prevent the formation of
rust.
Versions with matt paint
(for versions/markets, where provided)
On some versions the car may have
an exclusive opaque paint on the roof,
which requires special care to keep it
in good condition.
82)
Washing the car
To correctly wash the car, follow these
instructions:
if the vehicle is washed remove the
aerial from the roof;
if high pressure jets or cleaners are
used to wash the vehicle, keep a
distance of at least 40 cm from the
bodywork to avoid damage or
alteration. Build up of water could
cause damage to the car in the long
term;
wash the bodywork using a low
pressure jet of water;

RIMS AND TYRES
PROVIDED
Pressed steel or alloy rims. Tubeless
radial carcass tyres. All approved tyres
are listed in the registration document.
IMPORTANT If there are any
discrepancies between the Owner
Handbook and the registration
certificate, take the information from the
latter. For safe driving, the car must be
fitted with tyres of the same make
and type on all wheels.
IMPORTANT Do not use air chambers
with tubeless tyres.
SNOW CHAINS
Important notes
83)
NOTE Reduced-width snow chains
with a maximum projection of 9 mm
beyond the tyre profile can be fitted on
195/65 R15 91H and 205/55 R16
91H tyres. 225/45 R17 91V tyres
cannot be fitted with snow chains.The use of snow chains should be in
compliance with local regulations of
each country. In certain countries, tyres
marked with code M+S (Mud and
Snow) are considered as winter
equipment; therefore their use is
equivalent to that of the snow chains.
Snow chains can be fitted to the tyres
of the front wheels (drive wheels) only.
Check the tension of the snow chains
after the first few metres have been
driven.
Using snow chains with tyres with
non-original dimensions may damage
the vehicle.
Using different size or type (M+S, snow,
etc.) tyres between front and rear axle
may adversely affect car handling,
with the risk of losing control of the car
and resulting accidents.
Snow chains cannot be fitted to the
space-saver wheel (for versions/
markets, where provided). If a front tyre
is punctured, replace a rear wheel
with the space-saver wheel and move
the rear wheel to the front axle. In
this way, with two normal drive wheels
at the front, snow chains can be fitted.
