DPF (DIESEL PARTICULATE
FILTER) CLEANING IN PROGRESS
(only diesel versions with DPF)
(amber)
Turning the key to the MAR-ON position the
warning light switches on, but it should switch off
after a few seconds. The warning light (together
with a message and a symbol on the display on
some versions) switches on constantly to notify the
driver that the DPF system needs to eliminate
captured pollutants (particulate) by the
regeneration process.
The warning light does not switch on during every
DPF regeneration, but only when driving conditions
require that the driver is notified. To switch the
warning light off, the car must be kept moving until
the regeneration process is completed.
On average, the process lasts fifteen minutes. The
best conditions to complete the regeneration
process are reached driving the car at about 60
km/h with engine speed over 2000 rpm.
When this warning light switches on, it does not
indicate a fault of the car and it should therefore
not be taken to a workshop. A specific message will
appear on the display when the warning light
comes on (for versions/markets, where provided).
WARNING
The driving speed should always be
suitable to traffic conditions, weather
conditions and the driver should always
comply with traffic regulations.The engine
may be turned off while the DPF light is on;
however, repeated interruption of the
regeneration process may result in premature
degradation of the engine oil. For this reason,
always wait until the warning light switches off
before stopping the engine as described
above. It is not a good idea to complete DPF
regeneration with the car stationar y.FUEL RESERVE (amber)
Turning the key to the MAR-ON position the
warning light switches on, but it should switch off
after a few seconds. The warning light turns on
when 8-10 litres of fuel are left in the tank.
IMPORTANT The warning light will flash to indicate
a system failure. If this is the case, go to the Fiat
Dealership to have the system checked.

(#) On the 1.4 T-Jet and 1.4 Turbo MultiAir versions the following are extremely important to ensure correct operation and prevent
serious damage to the engine: only use spark plugs specially tested for T-Jet and MultiAir engines (see paragraph "Engine") of the
same mark and type; strictly comply with the Scheduled Servicing Plan; you are advised to contact a Fiat Dealership
(°**) If the vehicle is mainly used for town driving or has an annual mileage of less than 10,000 km, the engine oil and engine oil filter
should be changed every 12 months.

❒visually inspect conditions of: engine, gearbox,
transmission, pipes and hoses (exhaust - fuel
system - brakes) and rubber elements (boots -

CHECKING FLUID LEVELS
When topping up, take care not to mix
up the various types of fluids: they are
not compatible with each other and
could seriously damage the car.
WARNING
Never smoke while working in the
engine compartment : inflammable
gases and vapours may be present ,
constituting a fire risk.

IMPORTANT After adding or changing the oil, let
the engine run for a few seconds and wait a few
minutes after switching it off before checking
the level.
Engine oil consumption
The maximum engine oil consumption is
approximately 400 grams every 1,000 km.
During the initial period of usage for the vehicle,
the engine is bedding in, therefore the engine
oil consumption may settle down only after the first
5,000 - 6,000 km.
IMPORTANT The oil consumption depends on
driving style and the conditions under which the car
is used.
IMPORTANT Do not add oil with specifications
other than those of the oil already in the engine.
WARNING
When the engine is hot , take care when
working inside the engine compartment
to avoid burns. Remember that the fan may
start up if the engine is hot : this could injure
you. Make sure that scarves, ties and other
loose fitting garments do not get caught up in
moving parts.Used engine oil and oil filters contain
substances which are harmful to the
environment .To change the oil and
filters, we advise you to contact a Fiat
Dealership.
ENGINE COOLANT
The coolant level must be checked when the engine
is cold and must be above the MIN mark on the
reservoir, see fig. fig. 207-fig. 208
If the level is low, slowly pour a mixture of 50%
demineralised water and 50% PARAFLU
UP
by
PETRONAS LUBRICANTS through cap A.
The mixture of 50% PARAFLU
UP
and 50%
demineralised water protects against freezing down
to temperatures of -35°C.
For particularly harsh climate conditions, we
recommended using a mixture of 60% PARAFLU
UP
and 40% demineralised water.
