Never use the windscreen wipers to
remove layers of snow or ice from the
windscreen. In such conditions, the
windscreen wipers may be subjected to excessive
stress and the motor protection, which prevents
operation for a few seconds, may intervene. If
operation is not restored, contact a Fiat
Dealership.
"Smart washing" functionfig. 38
Pull the stalk towards the steering wheel (unstable
position) to operate the windscreen washer.
Keep the stalk pulled, with just one movement, to
operate the washer jet and the windscreen wiper;
the latter automatically turns on if you keep the stalk
pulled for more than half a second.
The windscreen wiper stops operating a few strokes
after releasing the stalk; a further “cleaning stroke”,
after a few seconds, completes the wiping operation.
RAIN SENSOR
(for versions/markets, where provided)
The rain sensor A fig. 39 is located behind the
interior rear view mirror in contact with the
windscreen and has the purpose of automatically
adjusting the frequency of the windscreen wiper
strokes depending on the intensity of the rain during
intermittent operation. The sensor has an adjustment range that varies
progressively from wiper still (no stroke) when the
windscreen is dry, to wiper at first continuous speed
(slow continuous operation) with intense rain.

On some versions, a courtesy mirror with courtesy
light is fitted on the back of the visors. The light
allows the mirror to be used even in poor visibility
conditions.
Lift cover A to access the mirror.
If the ignition key is at STOP position, the light stays
on for about 15 minutes. If, during this period, a
door or the tailgate is opened, the 15 minute timing
is reset.
IMPORTANT On both sides of the sun visor there is
a label remembering that it is compulsory to
deactivate the airbags if a rearward facing child
restraint system is fitted. Always comply with the
instructions on the sun visor. (see the "Front airbags"
paragraph in chapter "Safety").
SUN ROOF(for versions/markets, where provided)
The large electric sun roof comprises two panes of
glass, one of which is mobile and the other fixed.
These are equipped with two
sun blinds (front and rear) that can be moved
manually.
The sun blinds be used in "fully closed" or "fully
open" positions (they have no fixed intermediate
positions).
To open the sun blinds: grip handle A fig. 65, release
it and move it in the direction of the arrows to
the "fully open" position.
To close them, carry out the procedure in reverse.
The sun roof can be operated only with the ignition
key turned to MAR-ON. The controls A and B fig. 66
on the trim next to the front roof light operate the
sun roof opening/closing functions.

Acceleration
Accelerating violently severely affects consumption
and emissions: acceleration should be gradual and
should not exceed the maximum torque.
USAGE CONDITIONS
The main usage conditions that negatively affect fuel
consumption are listed below.
Cold starting
Short journeys and frequent cold starts do not allow
the engine to reach optimum operating temperature.
This results in a significant increase in consumption
levels (from +15 to +30% on the urban cycle) and
emissions.
Traffic and road conditions
Rather high consumption levels are linked to
situations with heavy traffic, for instance when
travelling in queues with frequent use of the lower
gears or in cities with many traffic lights. Winding
mountain roads and rough road surfaces also
adversely affect consumption.
Traffic hold-ups
During prolonged hold-ups (e.g. level crossings) the
engine should be switched off.
TOWING TRAILERSIMPORTANT NOTES
For towing caravans or trailers the car must be fitted
with a certified tow hook and an adequate electric
system. Installation should be carried out by
specialised personnel who will issue the required
papers for travelling on roads.
Install any specific and/or additional rear view mirrors
as specified by the Highway Code.
Remember that when towing a trailer, steep hills are
harder to climb, braking distances increase and
overtaking takes longer depending on the overall
weight.
Engage a low gear when driving downhill, rather than
constantly using the brake.
The weight the trailer exerts on the car tow hook
reduces the car's loading capacity by the same
amount. To make sure that the maximum towable
weight is not exceeded (given in the car registration
document) account should be taken of the fully
laden trailer, including accessories and luggage.
Respect the speed limits specific to each country for
vehicles towing trailers.
In any case, the maximum speed must not exceed 80
km/h.
