5. To close, turn the fuel cap slowly
clockwise until you hear clicking
sounds, then gently push the fuel tank
filler door closed.
WARNING
86)When handling fuel, comply with the
safety regulations displayed by garages
and filling stations.
87)Fuel is highly flammable and explosive.
You could be burned or seriously injured
when handling it. When refueling your
vehicle, always turn the engine off and
keep away from flames, sparks and
smoking materials. Always handle fuel in
well ventilated outdoor areas.
88)Before removing the fuel cap, be sure
to get rid of your body’s static electricity by
touching a metal part of the vehicle or fuel
pump. Any static electricity on your body
could create a spark that ignites fuel vapor.
89)Perform the whole refueling process
(opening the fuel tank filler door, removing
the fuel cap, etc.) by yourself. Do not let
any other person come near the fuel tank
filler. If you allowed a person to help you
and that person was carrying static
electricity, fuel vapor could be ignited.
90)Do not move away from the fuel tank
filler until refueling is finished. If you moved
away and did something else (for example,
sitting on a seat) part-way through the
refueling process, you could pick up a
fresh charge of static electricity.
91)Be careful not to inhale fuel vapor. Fuel
contains toxic substances.92)Keep the doors and windows closed
while refueling the vehicle. If they were
open, fuel vapor could get into the cabin.
93)If the fuel cap must be replaced, use
only a Fiat genuine part.
94)Since the fuel system may be under
pressure, remove the fuel cap slowly. This
relieves any pressure or vacuum that might
have built up in the fuel tank. If you hear a
hissing sound, wait until it stops before
removing the cap. Otherwise, fuel may
spray out, injuring you or others.
95)Do not apply any object/plug to the
end of the filler which is not provided for
the car. The use of non-compliant
objects/plugs could cause a pressure
increase inside the tank, resulting in
dangerous situations.
96)Do not use a mobile phone near the
refuelling pump: risk of fire.
97)Do not tilt the gun.

Indicator lamps What it means
Diesel preheat indicator lamp
This indicator lamp illuminates when the ignition switch is placed in the “ON” position or the operation mode is in
ON. As the glow plug becomes hot, the lamp goes out and the engine can be started.
If the engine is cold, the diesel preheat indicator lamp is on for a longer time.
When the engine has not been started within about 5 seconds after the diesel preheat indicator lamp went out,
return the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position or put the operation mode in OFF. Then, turn the ignition switch
to the “ON” position or put the operation mode in ON to preheat the engine again.
When the engine is warm, the diesel preheat indicator lamp does not come on even if the ignition switch is
placed in the “ON” position or the operation mode is in ON.
42) 43)
Fuel filter indicator lamp
This indicator lamp illuminates when the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation mode is
put in ON, and goes off after the engine has started. If it lights up while the engine is running, it indicates that
water has accumulated inside the fuel filter; if this happens, take action as follows.
Remove the water from the fuel filter. Refer to “Removal of water from the fuel filter”.
When the lamp goes out, you can resume driving. If it either does not go out or comes on from time to time, we
recommend you to have the vehicle inspected.
ASTC indicator lamp
ASTC OFF indicator lamp
The indicator lamps should illuminate when the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation
mode is put in ON, and should go off after a few seconds.
If the indicator lamps stay on or do not illuminate when the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the
operation mode is put in ON, we recommend you to have your vehicle inspected as soon as possible.

Warning lamps What it means
ABS warning lamp
If there is a malfunction in the system, the ABS warning lamp will come on. Under normal conditions, the ABS
warning lamp comes on when the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation mode is put in ON
and goes off a few seconds later.
NOTE: On vehicles with the rear differential lock and the active stability & traction control (ASTC), the ASTC and ABS
functions are suspended while the rear differential lock is activated. ASTC indicator lamp, ASTC OFF indicator lamp
and ABS warning lamp are illuminated while these functions are suspended. It does not indicate a problem. When
the rear differential lock is disengaged, these lamps go out and function again. Refer to “ASTC indicator lamp, ASTC
OFF indicator lamp”.
If only the ABS warning lamp illuminates:
Avoid hard braking and high-speed driving. Stop the vehicle in a safe place.
Restart the engine and check to see whether the lamp goes out after a few minutes driving; if it
then remains off during driving, there is no problem.
However, if the warning lamp do not disappear, or if they come on again when the vehicle is driven, we recommend
you to have the vehicle checked as soon as possible.
If the ABS warning lamp and brake warning lamp illuminate at the same time:
The ABS and brake force distribution function may not work, so hard braking could make the
vehicle unstable.
Avoid hard braking and high-speed driving.
Stop the vehicle in a safe place and we recommend you to have the vehicle checked.
58)
120 KM/HIf the vehicle speed exceeds about 120 km/h the lamp blinks and chime sounds.
99
47)If the vehicle is towed with the ignition
switch in the “ON” position or the operation
mode in ON and only the front wheels or
only the rear wheels raised off the ground,
the ASTC may operate, resulting in an
accident. When towing the vehicle with the
front wheels raised, keep the ignition switch
in the “LOCK” or “ACC” position or the
operation mode in ACC or OFF. When
towing the vehicle with the rear wheels
raised, keep the ignition switch in the
“ACC” position or the operation mode in
ACC. Refer to “Towing”.
48)Prolonged driving with this lamp on
may cause further damage to the emission
control system. It could also affect fuel
economy and drivability.
49)If the lamp does not illuminate when the
ignition switch is turned to the “ON”
position or the operation mode is put in
ON, we recommend you to have the
system checked.
50)If the lamp illuminates while the engine
is running, avoid driving at high speeds and
have the system inspected by a Fiat
Dealership as soon as possible. Accelerator
pedal and brake pedal response may be
negatively influenced under these
conditions.
51)If it illuminates while the engine is
running, there is a problem in the charging
system. Immediately park your vehicle in a
safe place and we recommend you to have
it checked.
52)If this lamp illuminates when the engine
oil level is not low, have it inspected.
53)This warning lamp does not indicate
the amount of oil in the crankcase. This
must be determined by checking the oil
level on the dipstick, while the engine is
switched off.54)If you continue driving with low engine
oil level or with this warning lamp
illuminated, engine seizure may occur.
55)Before moving your vehicle, check that
the warning lamp is OFF.
56)If any of the following conditions occur,
there may be a problem with the SRS
airbags and/or seat belt pre-tensioners,
and they may not function properly in a
collision or may suddenly activate without a
collision: 1 – Even when the ignition switch
or the operation mode is in ON, the SRS
warning lamp does not come on or it
remains on. 2 – The SRS warning lamp
comes on while driving.
57)The SRS airbags and seat belt
pre-tensioners are designed to help reduce
the risk of serious injury or death in certain
collisions. If either of the above conditions
occurs, immediately have your vehicle
checked by a Fiat Dealership.
58)Any of the following indicates that the
ABS is not functioning and only the
standard brake system is working. (The
standard brake system is functioning
normally.) If this happens, take your vehicle
to a Fiat Dealership.

SEAT BELTS
To protect you and your passengers in
the event of an accident, it is the most
important that the seat belts be worn
correctly while driving.
The driver’s and front passenger’s seat
belt equipped with an airbag each have
a pre-tensioner system and the rear
seat belts equipped with a dual stage
airbag system each have a
pre-tensioner system. These belts are
used the same way as a conventional
seat belt.
Refer to “Seat belt pre-tensioner
system and force limiter system”.

3-point type seat belt (with
emergency locking mechanism)
This type of belt requires no length
adjustment. Once worn, the belt
adjusts itself to the movement of
wearer, but in the event of a sudden or
strong shock, the belt automatically
locks to hold the wearer’s body.
NOTE You can check if the belt locks
by pulling it forward quickly. To fasten
1. Pull the seat belt out slowly while
holding the latch plate.
NOTE When the seat belts cannot be
pulled out in a locked condition, pull the
belts once forcefully and then return
them. After that, pull the belts out
slowly once again.
2. Insert the latch plate into the buckle
until a “click” is heard.
114)
59) 60)
To unfasten
Hold the latch plate and push the
button on the buckle.NOTE As the belt retracts
automatically, keep the latch plate held
while retracting so that the belt stows
slowly. Failure to do this could damage
the vehicle.
113)
SEAT BELT INSPECTION
Check the belts for cuts, worn or frayed
webbing and for cracked or deformed
metallic parts. Replace the belt
assembly if defective.
A dirty belt should be cleaned with
neutral detergent in warm water. After
rinsing in water, let it dry in the shade.
Do not attempt to bleach or re-dye the
belts because this affects their
characteristics.
