Cruise control allows you to control yourspeed using the switches on the steeringwheel. You can use cruise control whenyou exceed approximately 20 mph (30km/h).
USING CRUISE CONTROL
WARNINGS
Do not use cruise control in heavytraffic, on winding roads or when theroad surface is slippery. This couldresult in loss of vehicle control, seriousinjury or death.
When you are going downhill, yourspeed may increase above the setspeed. The system will not apply thebrakes. Change down a gear to assist thesystem in maintaining the set speed.Failure to do so could result in loss ofvehicle control, serious injury or death.
Note:Cruise control will disengage if yourvehicle speed decreases more than 10 mph(16 km/h) below your set speed whiledriving uphill.
The cruise controls are located on thesteering wheel.
Switching Cruise Control On
Press and release ON.
The indicator will display in theinstrument cluster.
Setting a Speed
1.Accelerate to the desired speed.
2.Press and release SET+.
3.Take your foot off the acceleratorpedal.
Changing the Set Speed
•Press and hold SET+ or SET-. Releasethe control when you reach the desiredspeed.
•Press and release SET+ or SET-. Theset speed will change in approximately1 mph (2 km/h) increments.
•Press the accelerator or brake pedaluntil you reach the desired speed. Pressand release SET+.
Canceling the Set Speed
Press and release CAN, or tap the brakepedal. The set speed will not be erased.

General Information
WARNINGS
The system does not relieve you ofyour responsibility to drive with duecare and attention.
At all times you are responsible forcontrolling your vehicle, supervisingthe system and intervening ifrequired.
Never look directly into the sensorwith any type of object. There is a riskof eye injury.
If the sensor becomes blocked thesystem may not function.
To achieve full system performance,you must bed the braking system in.See Breaking-In (page 130).
The system performance may varydepending on your vehicle and roadconditions.
The system will not react to vehiclesdriving in a different direction.
The system will not react to bicycles,motorcycles, people or animals.
When the ignition is on the sensorwill constantly transmit a laserbeam.
The system will not operate duringharsh acceleration and steering.
In cold and severe weatherconditions the system may notfunction. Rain, snow, spray and icecan all influence the sensor.
Do not carry out windshield repairsin the immediate area surroundingthe sensor.
WARNINGS
If you install a windshield notapproved by us, the system may notfunction correctly.
If the engine stops after the systemhas been switched on, the hazardwarning flashers will turn on.
The system may not function whendriving around sharp curves.
Note:Keep the windshield free fromobstructions such as bird droppings, insects,snow or ice.
Note:Keep the hood free of ice and snow,otherwise the system may not functioncorrectly.
A sensor is mounted behind the interiorrear view mirror. It continuously monitorsconditions to decide when to intervene.
The system is designed to help you reducelow speed collisions into the rear ofanother vehicle. It will also help you reducethe impact damage or potentially avoidthe collision completely.
The system operates at speeds belowapproximately 19 mph (30 km/h) byapplying the brakes when the sensordetects that a collision is likely.
You must depress the brake pedal toobtain full braking force.
When the system is braking or hasautomatically applied the brakes, amessage will be shown in the informationdisplay.

TOWING THE VEHICLE ON

TRANSMISSION
WARNINGS
You must switch the ignition on whenyour vehicle is being towed. Failureto follow this warning could seriouslyincrease the risk of injury or death.
The brake and steering assistancewill not operate unless the engine isrunning. Press the brake pedal harderand allow for increased stopping distancesand heavier steering. Failure to take caremay lead to a crash or personal injury.
Too much tension on a tow ropecould cause damage to your vehicleor the vehicle that is towing.
When towing your vehicle you mustselect neutral. Failure to follow thiswarning could damage thetransmission and may lead to a crash orinjury.
Drive off slowly and smoothly withoutjerking the vehicle that is being towed.
You must only use the towing eye that wasdelivered with your vehicle. See TowingPoints (page 127).
Tow ropes or rigid towing bars must beplaced on the same side. For example; righthand rear towing point to right hand fronttowing point.
You must use a tow rope or rigid towingbar that is of the correct strength for theweight of the towing vehicle and thevehicle that is being towed.
Note:Using a rigid towing bar is the safestway to tow a vehicle.
The weight of the vehicle that is beingtowed must not exceed the weight of thetowing vehicle.
Do not exceed 30 mph (50 km/h). SeeTowing the Vehicle on Four Wheels(page 128).
TOWING THE VEHICLE ON

WARNINGS

Emergency Towing
If your vehicle is disabled without accessto wheel dollies, a car-hauling trailer, or aflatbed transport vehicle it can beflat-towed with all wheels on the ground.
You may do this under the followingconditions:
•Your vehicle is facing forward so thatit is towed in a forward direction.
•The transmission selector lever isplaced in position N. If the transmissiongear shift lever cannot be moved toposition N, it may need to beoverridden. See AutomaticTransmission (page 104).
•Maximum speed is 35 mph (56 km/h).
•Maximum distance is 50 miles (80kilometers).

Tires
WARNING
New tires need to be run-in forapproximately 300 miles (500kilometers). During this time, youmay experience different drivingcharacteristics.
Brakes and Clutch
WARNING
Avoid heavy use of the brakes andclutch if possible for the first 100miles (150 kilometers) in town andfor the first 1000 miles (1500 kilometers)on freeways.
Engine
WARNING
Avoid driving too fast during the first1000 miles (1500 kilometers). Varyyour speed frequently and changeup through the gears early. Do not laborthe engine.
COLD WEATHER
PRECAUTIONS
The functional operation of somecomponents and systems can be affectedat temperatures below -13°F (-25°C).
DRIVING THROUGH WATER
WARNINGS
Drive through water in an emergencyonly and not as part of normaldriving.
WARNINGS
Engine damage can occur if waterenters the air filter.
In an emergency, you can drive your vehiclethrough water to a maximum depth of 8inches (200 millimeters) and at amaximum speed of 6 mph (10 km/h). Youmust take extra care when driving throughflowing water.
When driving in water, maintain a lowspeed and do not stop your vehicle. Afterdriving through water and as soon as it issafe to do so:
•Depress the brake pedal lightly tocheck that the brakes are functioningcorrectly.
•Check that the horn works.
•Check that your vehicle's lamps arefully operational.
•Check the power assistanceof the steering system.

A decal with tire pressure data is locatedin the driver’s door opening.
Check and set the tire pressure at theambient temperature in which you areintending to drive your vehicle and whenthe tires are cold.
Note:Check your tire pressures regularly tooptimize fuel economy.
Note:Use only approved wheel and tiresizes. Using other sizes could damage yourvehicle and will make the National TypeApproval invalid.
Note:If you change the diameter of the tiresfrom that fitted at the factory, thespeedometer may not display the correctspeed. Take your vehicle to an authorizeddealer to have the engine managementsystem reprogrammed.
Note:If you intend to change the size of thewheels from that fitted at the factory, checkthe suitability with an authorized dealer.
TEMPORARY MOBILITY KIT
Your vehicle may not have a spare tire.Therefore you will have a temporarymobility kit which will only repair onedamaged tire.
The kit is located in the spare wheel well.
General Information
WARNINGS
Depending on the type and extent oftire damage, some tires can only bepartially sealed or not sealed at all.Loss of tire pressure can affect vehiclehandling, leading to loss of vehicle control.
Do not use the kit on a previouslydamaged tire, for example when ithas been driven under inflated.
WARNINGS
Do not use the kit on run flat tires.
Do not try to seal damage to thetire’s sidewall.
The kit seals most tire punctures [with adiameter of up to ¼ inch (six millimeters)]to temporarily restore mobility.
You must observe the following rules whenusing the kit:
•Drive with caution and avoid makingsudden steering or driving manoeuvres,especially if your vehicle is heavilyladen or you are towing a trailer.
•The kit will provide you with anemergency temporary repair, enablingyou to continue your journey to the nextvehicle or tire dealer, or to drive amaximum distance of 125 miles(200 kilometers).
•Do not exceed a maximum speed of50 mph (80 km/h).
•Keep the kit out of the reach ofchildren.
•Only use the kit when the ambienttemperature is between -40°F(–40°C) and +158°F (+70°C).
Using the Kit
WARNINGS
Compressed air can act as anexplosive or propellant.
Never leave the kit unattended whilein use.
Do not keep the compressoroperating for more than 10 minutes.
You must only use the kit for thevehicle with which it was supplied.

Pressure relief valveI
1.Remove the kit from the wrapping.
2.Peel off the label A showing themaximum permissible speed of50 mph (80 km/h) from the sealantbottle and attach it to the instrumentpanel in the driver’s field of view. Makesure the label does not obscureanything important.
3.Take the hose H with the pressure reliefvalve I and the power plug with cableF out of the kit.
4.Connect the hose H with the pressurerelief valve I to the sealant bottle B.
5.Engage the sealant bottle B into thebottle holder D.
6.Remove the valve cap from thedamaged tire.
7.Screw the sealant bottle hose C firmlyonto the valve of the damaged tire.
8.Make sure that the compressor switchG is in position 0.
9.Insert the power plug F into the cigarlighter socket or auxiliary power socket.See Auxiliary Power Points (page88). See Cigar Lighter (page 88).
10.Start the engine.
11.Move the compressor switch G toposition 1.
12.Inflate the tire for no longer than 10minutes to an inflation pressure ofminimum 26 psi (1.8 bar) and amaximum of 51 psi (3.5 bar). Movethe compressor switch G to position0 and check the current tire pressurewith pressure gauge E.
Note:If a tire pressure of 26 psi (1.8 bar) isnot reached do not continue.
Note:When pumping in the sealant throughthe tire valve, the pressure may rise up to87 psi (6 bar) but will drop again after about30 seconds.
Note:After you have switched thecompressor off, you may hear air escapingfrom the damaged tire. This is normal andcan be ignored provided that the specifiedminimum tire pressure has been reached.
13.Remove the power plug F from thecigar lighter socket or auxiliary powersocket.
14.Quickly unscrew the hose C from thetire valve. Fasten the valve cap again.
Note:Some residual sealant fluid may dripor spray out of hose C while you aredisconnecting it. This is normal.
15.Leave the sealant bottle B in thebottle holder D.
16.Make sure the kit is stored safely, butstill easily accessible in your vehicle.The kit will be required again whenyou check the tire pressure.
17.Immediately drive approximatelytwo miles (three kilometers) so thatthe sealant can seal the damagedarea.
WARNING
If you experience heavy vibrations,unsteady steering behaviour ornoises while driving, reduce yourspeed and drive with caution to a placewhere it is safe for you to stop your vehicle.Recheck the tire and its pressure. If the tirepressure is less than 14.7 psi (1 bar) or ifthere are any cracks, bumps or similardamage visible, do not continue drivingwith this tire.
18.Stop your vehicle after drivingapproximately two miles (threekilometers). Check, and wherenecessary, adjust the pressure of thedamaged tire.
