REMOTE CONTROL

REMOVING THE KEY BLADE
Push the release button on your passivekey and pull the key blade out.
SOUNDING THE PANIC ALARM
Press the button to sound thepanic alarm. Press the buttonagain or switch the ignition on toturn it off.
Note:The panic alarm only operates whenthe ignition is off.
LOCATING YOUR VEHICLE
Press the lock button twicewithin three seconds. The turnsignal lamps flash. Werecommend you use this method to locateyour vehicle.
CHANGING THE REMOTE
CONTROL BATTERY
WARNING: Keep batteries awayfrom children to prevent ingestion.Failure to follow this instruction couldresult in personal injury or death. Ifingested, immediately seek medicalattention.
WARNING: If the batterycompartment does not securely close,stop using the remote control andreplace it as soon as possible. In themeantime, keep the remote control awayfrom children. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injuryor death.
The remote control uses one coin-type3-volt lithium battery CR2450 orequivalent.
1.Push the release button and pull thekey blade out.

2.Twist a thin coin under the tab hiddenbehind the key blade head to removethe battery cover.
3.Insert a screwdriver, and carefullyremove the battery.
4.Install a new battery with the + facingupward.
5.Reinstall the battery housing coveronto the transmitter and install the keyblade.
Dispose of old batteries in anenvironmentally friendly way.Seek advice from your localauthority about recycling old batteries.
Note:Do not wipe off any grease on thebattery terminals or on the back surface ofthe circuit board.
Note: Replacing the battery does not erasethe programmed key from your vehicle. Theremote control should operate normally.
REPLACING A LOST KEY OR
REMOTE CONTROL
You can purchase replacement keys orremote controls from an authorized dealer.Authorized dealers can program remotecontrols for your vehicle.

Programming is now complete. With yourfoot on the brake pedal, press the pushbutton ignition switch to verify the remotecontrol functions operate and your vehiclestarts with the new remote control.
If programming was not successful, wait10 seconds and repeat Steps 1 through 7.If you are still unsuccessful, take yourvehicle to an authorized dealer.

KEYLESS ENTRY LIMITATIONS
Make sure your remote control is within 3 ft(1 m) from the front door handles and thetailgate.
The system could not function if:
•The remote control remains stationaryfor about a minute.
•The vehicle battery has no charge.

KEYLESS ENTRY SETTINGS
Switching Keyless Entry On andOff
1.Switch the ignition on using an originalkey that has not been created as aMyKey.
2.Press Settings on the touchscreen.
3.Press Vehicle Settings.
4.Press Locks.
Reprogramming the UnlockingFunction
You can enable two-stage unlockingfunction allowing you to unlock only thedriver door when you touch the unlocksensor.
Press and hold both the lock and unlockbuttons on the remote control for fourseconds to disable or enable two-stageunlocking.
If you program the unlocking function sothat only the driver door unlocks, you canunlock all of the other doors from insideyour vehicle using the power door lockcontrol. You can unlock individual doorsby pulling the interior door handles onthose doors.
USING KEYLESS ENTRY
Unlocking the Doors
With your passive key within 5 ft (1.5 m) ofyour vehicle, touch the unlock sensor onthe back of the door handle for a briefperiod and then pull on the door handle tounlock, being careful not to touch the locksensor at the same time or pull on the doorhandle too quickly. The intelligent accesssystem requires a brief delay toauthenticate your passive key.
Locking the Doors
With your passive key within 3 ft (1 m) ofyour vehicle, touch the outer door handlelock sensor for approximately one secondto lock, being careful not to touch theunlock sensor on the back of the doorhandle at the same time. After locking, youcan immediately pull on the door handleto confirm locking occurred withoutinadvertently unlocking.

WHAT IS REMOTE START
The system allows you to remotely startyour vehicle and to adjust the interiortemperature according to the settings thatyou chose.
REMOTE START
PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Do not start the enginein a closed garage or in other enclosedareas. Exhaust fumes are toxic. Alwaysopen the garage door before you startthe engine. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injuryor death.
REMOTE START LIMITATIONS
Remote start does not work under thefollowing conditions:
•The perimeter alarm is sounding.
•The hood is open.
•The transmission is not in park (P).
•The ignition is on.
•The check engine light is on.
•The battery voltage is below theminimum operating voltage.
Note:Do not use remote start if your fuellevel is low.
Note:To use remote start with the FordPass or Phone as a Key, enable the modem.See Connecting the Vehicle to a Wi-FiNetwork (page 417).
ENABLING REMOTE START
1.Press Settings on the touchscreen.
2.Press Vehicle Settings.
3.Press Remote Start Setup.
4.Switch Remote Start on or off.
Note:To remote start with FordPass, makesure that the modem is enabled. SeeConnecting FordPass to the Modem(page 417).

Remotely Starting the Vehicle
Press the button on the remotecontrol.
Within three seconds, press thebutton on the remote control.

Note:The parking lamps turn on when thevehicle is running.
Note:The horn sounds if the system failsto start.
Note:All other vehicle systems remain offwhen you have remotely started the vehicle.
Note:The vehicle remains secured whenyou have remotely started the vehicle. Avalid key must be inside your vehicle toswitch the ignition on and drive your vehicle.

STARTING AND STOPPING THEENGINE – FREQUENTLY ASKEDQUESTIONS
Why is the engine idle speed high whenI am starting the engine?
The speed at which the engine idlesimmediately after starting is optimizedto minimize vehicle emissions andmaximize cabin comfort and fueleconomy.
Why does the engine not crank?
You can only attempt to start theengine for a limited amount of timebefore the starting system temporarilydisables. If you exceed the startingtime limit, a message may appear andyou cannot attempt to start the enginefor at least 15 minutes.
Why do I experience different drivingcharacteristics?
If you disconnect the battery, yourvehicle may exhibit some unusualdriving characteristics for about 5 mi(8 km) after you reconnect it. This isbecause the engine managementsystem must realign itself with theengine. You can disregard any unusualdriving characteristics during thisperiod.
Why can I not start the engine?
If you cannot start the engine afterthree attempts, wait 10 seconds anddo the following:
1.Fully press the brake pedal or theclutch pedal.
Note:Make sure the parking brake isapplied.
Note:Make sure the transmission is in park(P) or neutral (N).
2.Fully press the accelerator pedal andhold it there.
3.Press the push button ignition switch.
Note:The engine cranks for a short periodof time and then it stops.
4.Release the accelerator pedal.
5.Press the push button ignition switch.
Why does the system not detect apassive key?
If the system does not detect a passivekey and you are unable to start theengine, insert the passive key into thebackup position and press the pushbutton ignition switch to start theengine. See Accessing the PassiveKey Backup Position (page 156).

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Apply the parkingbrake, shift into park (P), switch theignition off and remove the key beforeyou leave your vehicle. Failure to followthis instruction could result in personalinjury or death.
WARNING: When your vehicle isstationary, keep the brake pedal fullypressed when shifting gears. Failure tofollow this instruction could result inpersonal injury, death or propertydamage.
WARNING: Do not apply the brakepedal and accelerator pedalsimultaneously. Applying both pedalssimultaneously for more than a fewseconds will limit engine performance,which may result in difficulty maintainingspeed in traffic and could lead to seriousinjury.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
POSITIONS
PARK (P)
WARNING: Shift into park (P) onlywhen your vehicle is stationary.
In park (P) power is not transmitted to thedriven wheels.
Note:A tone sounds if you attempt to exityour vehicle without the transmission in park(P).
Note:Your vehicle may not shift out of park(P) if the vehicle battery has run out ofcharge. See Jump Starting the Vehicle(page 302).
Note:Your vehicle may not shift out of park(P) if a fuse is blown. See Fuses (page 312).
Note:Your vehicle may not shift out of park(P) unless the key or remote control is insideyour vehicle.
Note:The electronic parking brake couldapply when the transmission selector is inpark (P). See Automatically Releasing theElectric Parking Brake (page 198).
REVERSE (R)
WARNING: Shift into reverse (R)only when your vehicle is stationary.
In reverse (R) power is transmitted to thedriven wheels.
NEUTRAL (N)
WARNING: In neutral (N) yourvehicle is free to roll.
In neutral (N) power is not transmitted tothe driven wheels.
DRIVE (D)
Drive (D) is the normal driving position forthe best fuel economy, and allowsautomatic upshifts and downshifts throughall available gears.
MANUAL (M)
In manual (M) you can select a specificgear. See Manually Shifting Gears (page179).

Vehicles Sold in the United States:Getting Roadside Assistance
To fully assist you should you have avehicle concern, Ford Motor Companyoffers a complimentary roadsideassistance program. This program isseparate from the New Vehicle LimitedWarranty.
The service is available:
•24 hours a day, seven days a week.
•For the coverage period supplied withyour vehicle.
Roadside Assistance covers:
•A flat tire change with a good spare(except vehicles supplied with a tireinflation kit).
•Battery jump start.
•Lock-out assistance (key replacementcost is the customer's responsibility).
•Fuel delivery — independent servicecontractors, if not prohibited by state,local or municipal law, shall deliver upto 2 gal (8 L) of gasoline or 5 gal (20 L)of diesel fuel to a disabled vehicle.Roadside assistance limits fuel deliveryservice to two no-charge occurrenceswithin a 12-month period.
•Winch out — available within 100 ft(30 m) of a paved or countymaintained road, no recoveries.
•Towing — independent servicecontractors, if not prohibited by state,local or municipal law, shall tow Fordeligible vehicles to an authorized dealerwithin 35 mi (56 km) of thedisablement location or to the nearestauthorized dealer. If a memberrequests a tow to an authorized dealerthat is more than 35 mi (56 km) fromthe disablement location, the membershall be responsible for any mileagecosts in excess of 35 mi (56 km).
•Roadside Assistance includes up to$200 for a towed trailer if the disabledeligible vehicle requires service at thenearest authorized dealer. If the towingvehicle is operational but the trailer isnot, then the trailer does not qualify forany roadside services.

Complete the roadside assistanceidentification card and place it in yourwallet for quick reference. This card is inthe Owner's Manual kit.
United States vehicle customers whorequire Roadside Assistance, call1-800-241-3673.
If you need to arrange roadside assistancefor yourself, Ford Motor Companyreimburses a reasonable amount fortowing to the nearest dealership within35 mi (56 km). To obtain reimbursementinformation, United States vehiclecustomers call 1-800-241-3673.Customers need to submit their originalreceipts.
