The fixed and active guidelines fade in andout depending on the steering wheelposition. The active guidelines are notshown when the steering wheel positionis straight.
Always use caution while reversing.Objects in the red zone are closest to yourvehicle and objects in the green zone arefarther away. Objects are getting closer toyour vehicle as they move from the greenzone to the yellow or red zones. Use theside view mirrors and rear view mirror toget better coverage on both sides and rearof your vehicle.
Enhanced Park Aids
Note:The reverse sensing system is noteffective at speeds above 6 mph (10 km/h)and may not detect certain angular ormoving objects.
The system uses red, yellow and greenhighlights that appear on top of the videoimage when the sensing systems detectan object. The alert highlights all objectsdetected.
Selectable settings for this feature are ONand OFF.
Manual Zoom
WARNING
When manual zoom is on, the fullarea behind your vehicle may notshow. Be aware of your surroundingswhen using the manual zoom feature.
Note:Manual zoom is only available whenthe transmission is in reverse (R).
Note:When manual zoom is enabled, onlythe centerline is shown.
This allows you to get a closer view of anobject behind your vehicle. The zoomedimage keeps the bumper in the image toprovide a reference. The zoom is onlyactive while the transmission is in reverse(R). When the transmission is shifted outof reverse (R), the feature automaticallyturns off and must be reset when it is usedagain.
Selectable settings for this feature are +and -. The default setting for the manualzoom is OFF.
Rear Camera Delay (If Equipped)
When you shift the transmission out ofreverse (R) and into any gear while the rearcamera delay is active, the camera imagedisplays until:
•Your vehicle speed sufficientlyincreases.
•You shift your vehicle into park (P).
Selectable settings for this feature are ONand OFF. The default setting for the rearcamera delay is OFF.

BLIND SPOT INFORMATION
SYSTEM (If Equipped)
WARNING
To help avoid injuries, NEVER use theBlind Spot Information System as areplacement for using the interiorand exterior mirrors or looking over yourshoulder before changing lanes. The BlindSpot Information System is not areplacement for careful driving.
The Blind Spot Information System isdesigned to aid you in detecting vehiclesthat may have entered the blind spot zone(A). The detection area is on both sides ofyour vehicle, extending rearward from theexterior mirrors to approximately 13 ft(4 m) beyond the bumper. The system isdesigned to alert you if certain vehiclesenter the blind spot zone while driving.
Note:The Blind Spot Information Systemdoes not prevent contact with other vehiclesor objects; nor detect parked vehicles,people, animals or infrastructure (fences,guardrails, trees). It’s only designed to alertyou to vehicles in the blind spot zones.
Note:When a vehicle passes quicklythrough the blind spot zone, typically fewerthan two seconds, the system does nottrigger.
Using the System
The Blind Spot Information System turnson when you start the engine and you driveyour vehicle forward above 5 mph(8 km/h).
For automatic transmissions, the BlindSpot Information System remains on whilethe transmission is in drive (D). If shiftedinto reverse (R) or park (P) the Blind SpotInformation System turns off. Once shiftedback into drive (D), the Blind SpotInformation System turns back on whenyou drive your vehicle above 5 mph(8 km/h).
For manual transmissions, the Blind SpotInformation System is on for all gearsexcept the reverse (R).
Note:The Blind Spot Information Systemdoes not function in reverse (R) or park (P).

Zone coverage also decreases whenparking at shallow angles. Here, the leftsensor is mostly obstructed; zone coverageon that side is severely limited.
System Lights, Messages andAudible Alerts
The Cross Traffic Alert illuminates anamber alert indicator in the outside mirroron the side of your vehicle the approachingvehicle is coming from. Cross Traffic Alertalso sounds an audible alert and amessage appears in the informationdisplay indicating a vehicle is coming fromthe right or left. Cross Traffic Alert workswith the reverse sensing system thatsounds its own series of tones. See RearParking Aid (page 168).
The system uses radar sensors that arelocated behind the bumper fascia on eachside of your vehicle. Do not allow mud,snow or bumper stickers to obstruct theseareas, this can cause degraded systemperformance. See Blind Spot
Information System (page 179). If theBlind Spot Information System is blocked,Cross Traffic Alert is also blocked. Acorresponding message appears in theinformation display as soon as you shiftthe transmission into reverse (R).
System Limitations
Cross Traffic Alert has its limitations;situations such as severe weatherconditions or debris build-up on the sensorarea may limit vehicle detection.
The following are other situations that maylimit the Cross Traffic Alert performance:
•Adjacently parked vehicles or objectsobstructing the sensors.
•Approaching vehicles passing atspeeds greater than 37 mph(60 km/h).
•Driving in reverse faster than 7 mph(12 km/h).
•Backing out of an angled parking spot.
False Alerts
Note:If your vehicle has a tow bar with afactory equipped trailer tow module and itis towing a trailer, the sensors willautomatically turn the Cross Traffic Alertoff. If your vehicle has a tow bar but nofactory equipped trailer tow module, it isrecommended to turn the Cross Traffic Alertoff manually. Operating Cross Traffic Alertwith a trailer attached will cause poor CrossTraffic Alert performance.
There may be certain instances when thereis a false alert by the Cross Traffic Alertsystem that illuminates the alert indicatorwith no vehicle in the coverage zone. Someamount of false alerts are normal; they aretemporary and self-correct.

Avoid these actions because they reduceyour fuel economy:
•Avoid sudden or hard accelerations anddecelerations. Accelerate and slowdown in a smooth, moderate fashion.
•Avoid revving the engine beforeswitching off your vehicle.
•Avoid long idle periods.
•Do not warm up your vehicle on coldmornings.
•Do not rest your foot on the brakepedal while driving.
•Avoid carrying unnecessary weight.Approximately 1 mi (1.6 km) per gallonor 0.2 mi (0.4 km) per liter is lost forevery 400 lb (180 kg) of weight carried.
•Avoid adding accessories that increaseaerodynamic drag to your vehicle suchas bug deflectors, car top carriers andski or bike racks.
•Avoid driving with the wheels out ofalignment.
Things to keep in mind when you refuelyour vehicle:
•Fuel generates fewer vapors when it iscool and dark outside. Refuel yourvehicle in the early morning or lateevening.
•Use the recommended octane-ratedfuel. Using fuel below therecommended rating will lower yourfuel economy.
DRIVING THROUGH WATER
WARNING
Do not drive through flowing or deepwater as you may lose control of yourvehicle.
Note:Driving through standing water cancause vehicle damage.
Note:Engine damage can occur if waterenters the air filter.
Before driving through standing water,check the depth. Never drive through waterthat is higher than the bottom of the frontrocker area of your vehicle.
When driving through standing water, drivevery slowly and do not stop your vehicle.Your brake performance and traction maybe limited. After driving through water andas soon as it is safe to do so:
•Lightly press the brake pedal to dry thebrakes and to check that they work.
•Check that the horn works.
•Check that the exterior lights work.
•Turn the steering wheel to check thatthe steering power assist works.
FLOOR MATS
WARNINGS
Always use floor mats that aredesigned to fit the foot well of yourvehicle. Only use floor mats thatleave the pedal area unobstructed. Onlyuse floor mats that are firmly secured toretention posts so that they cannot slip outof position and interfere with the pedalsor impair safe operation of your vehicle inother ways.

HAZARD WARNING FLASHERS
Note:If used when the vehicle is notrunning, the battery will lose charge. Theremay be insufficient power to restart yourvehicle.
The hazard warning button islocated on the instrument panel.Use it when your vehicle iscreating a safety hazard for othermotorists.
•Press the button to turn on the hazardwarning function, and the front andrear direction indicators will flash.
•Press the button again to turn themoff.
FUEL SHUTOFF
WARNING
Failure to inspect and, if necessary,repair fuel leaks after a collision mayincrease the risk of fire and seriousinjury. Ford Motor Company recommendsthat the fuel system be inspected by anauthorized dealer after any collision.
In the event of a moderate to severecollision, this vehicle has a fuel pumpshut-off feature that stops the flow of fuelto the engine. Not every impact will causea shut-off.
Should your vehicle shut off after acollision, you may restart your vehicle.
For vehicles equipped with a key system:
1. Switch off the ignition.
2. Switch on the ignition.
3. Check the information display for theReady to Drive light as the gasolineengine may not start, but the electricmotor may be running. If you do not seethe Ready to Drive light, repeat Steps1 and 2 up to two more times.
For vehicles equipped with a push buttonstart system:
1. Press the push button start to switchoff the ignition.
2. Press the brake pedal and press thepush button start to switch on theignition.
3. Check the information display for theReady to Drive light as the gasolineengine may not start, but the electricmotor may be running. If you do not seethe Ready to Drive light, repeat Steps1 and 2 up to two more times.

Roadside Emergencies

1.Connect the positive (+) jumper cableto the positive (+) prong (A) of thedischarged battery.
2. Connect the other end of the positive(+) cable to the positive (+) terminalof the assisting battery.
3. Connect the negative (-) cable to thenegative (-) terminal of the assistingbattery.
4. Make the final connection of thenegative (-) cable to the negative (-)prong (B) of your vehicle.
Note:Do not attach the negative (-) cableto fuel lines, engine rocker covers, the intakemanifold or electrical components. Theseitems should not be considered groundingpoints.
WARNING
Never connect the negative end ofthe cable to the negative (-) terminalof the discharged battery. A sparkmay cause an explosion of the gases thatsurround the battery. Always use thenegative prong as a grounding point.
Make sure that the cables are clear of fanblades, belts, the moving parts of bothengines, or any fuel delivery system parts.
Jump Starting
1.Start the booster vehicle and press theaccelerator pedal moderately.
2. Start the disabled vehicle. Check theinstrument cluster for the Ready toDrive light as the gasoline engine maynot start, but the electric motor maybe running.
3.Once you start the disabled vehicle, runboth vehicles for an additional threeminutes before disconnecting thejumper cables.
Removing the Jumper Cables
Remove the jumper cables in the reverseorder that they were connected.
Note:In the illustration, the vehicle on thebottom is used to designate the assisting(boosting) battery.

Crashes
A crash or impact significant enough torequire an emergency response forconventional vehicles would also requirethe same response for an electric orhybrid-electric vehicle.
If possible
•Move your car to a safe, nearbylocation and remain on the scene.
•Roll down the windows before shuttingyour vehicle off.
•Place your vehicle in Park, set theparking brake, turn off the vehicle,activate the hazard lights, and moveyour key(s) at least 16 feet (5 meters)away from the vehicle.
Always
•Call 911 if assistance is needed andadvise that an electric or hybrid-electricvehicle is involved.
•Do not touch exposed electricalcomponents or the enginecompartment, as a shock hazard mayexist.
•Avoid contact with leaking fluids andgases, and remain out of the way ofoncoming traffic until emergencyresponders arrive.
•When emergency responders arrive,tell them that the vehicle involved is anelectric vehicle or hybrid vehicle.
Fires
As with any vehicle, call 911 immediately ifyou see sparks, smoke or flames comingfrom the vehicle.
•Exit the vehicle immediately.
•Advise 911 that an electric orhybrid-electric vehicle is involved.
•As with any vehicle fire, do not inhalesmoke, vapors or gas from the vehicle,as they may be hazardous.
•Remain a safe distance from thevehicle and try to stay clear of thesmoke.
•Stay out of the roadway and stay outof the way of any oncoming trafficwhile awaiting the arrival of emergencyresponders.
Post-Incident
•Do not store a severely damagedvehicle with a lithium-ion battery insidea structure or within 50 feet (15meters) of any structure or vehicle.
•Make sure that passenger and cargocompartments remain ventilated (i.e.open window, door or trunk).
•For vehicles in the United States, notifyFord Motor Company 1-800-392-3673(then follow the prompts on the voiceresponse menu), an authorized Forddealer or service center as soon aspossible as there may be other stepsto secure and discharge thehigh-voltage battery.
•For vehicles in Canada, notify FordMotor Company 1-800-565-3673(then follow the prompts on the voiceresponse menu), an authorized Forddealer or service center as soon aspossible as there may be other stepsto secure and discharge thehigh-voltage battery.
•Call 911 if you observe leaking fluids,sparks, smoke or flames, or heargurgling or bubbling from thehigh-voltage battery.
