The side airbags are on the outermost sideof each front and rear seat backrest.
There is a label attached to the side ofeach backrest to indicate this.
Properly restrain children 12 years old andunder in the rear seats. The rear side airbagwill not interfere with children restrainedusing a properly installed child or boosterseat.
The side airbags are designed to inflatebetween the door panel and the occupantto enhance the protection in certaincrashes.
The system consists of the following:
•A label or embossed side panelindicating that side airbags are fittedto your vehicle.
•Side airbags inside the driver and frontpassenger seatbacks, as well as sideairbags inside of each outermost rearseatback.

The design and development of the sideairbag system included recommendedtesting procedures that were developedby a group of automotive safety expertsknown as the Side Airbag TechnicalWorking Group. These recommendedtesting procedures help reduce the risk ofinjuries related to the deployment of sideairbags.
DRIVER AND PASSENGER
KNEE AIRBAGS
WARNING: To reduce risk of injury,do not obstruct or place objects in thedeployment path of the airbag.
WARNING: Close the glove boxdoor when your vehicle is moving. Failureto follow this instruction could reducethe effectiveness of the passenger kneeairbag and increase the risk of injury in acrash.
A driver knee airbag is located under orwithin the instrument panel. A passengerknee airbag is located within or under theglove box door. During a crash, therestraints control module may activate thedriver and passenger knee airbags basedon crash severity and occupant conditions.Under certain crash and occupantconditions, the driver and passenger kneeairbag may deploy but the driver frontairbag may not activate. As with front andside airbags, it is important to be properlyseated and restrained to reduce the risk ofdeath or serious injury.
Make sure the knee airbags areoperating properly. See CrashSensors and Airbag Indicator(page 44).
SAFETY CANOPY™
WARNING: Do not place objectsor mount equipment on or near theheadliner at the siderail that may comeinto contact with a deploying curtainairbag. Failure to follow theseinstructions may increase the risk ofpersonal injury in the event of a crash.

CRASH SENSORS AND
AIRBAG INDICATOR
WARNING: Modifying or addingequipment to the front end of yourvehicle (including hood, bumper system,frame, front end body structure, towhooks and hood pins) may affect theperformance of the airbag system,increasing the risk of injury. Do notmodify or add equipment to the frontend of your vehicle.
Your vehicle has a collection of crash andoccupant sensors which provideinformation to the restraints controlmodule. The restraints control moduledeploys (activates) the front seatbeltpretensioners, driver airbag, passengerairbag, knee airbag(s), seat mounted sideairbags and Safety Canopy airbags. Basedon the type of crash, the restraints controlmodule deploys the appropriate safetydevices.
The restraints control module alsomonitors the readiness of the above safetydevices plus the crash and occupantsensors. The readiness of the safetysystem is indicated by a warning indicatorlight in the instrument cluster or by abackup tone if the warning light is notworking. Routine maintenance of theairbag is not required.
A difficulty with the system is indicated byone or more of the following:
•The readiness light will not illuminateimmediately after the ignition isswitched on.
•The readiness light either flashes orstays lit.
•A series of five beeps will be heard. Thetone pattern repeats periodically untilthe problem, the light or both arerepaired.
If any of these things happen, evenintermittently, have the supplementalrestraint system serviced at an authorizeddealer immediately. Unless serviced, thesystem may not function properly in theevent of a crash.
The seatbelt pretensioners and the frontairbag supplemental restraint system aredesigned to activate when the vehiclesustains frontal deceleration sufficient tocause the restraints control module todeploy a safety device.
The fact that the seatbelt pretensionersor front airbags did not activate for bothfront seat occupants in a crash does notmean that something is wrong with thesystem. Rather, it means the restraintscontrol module determined the accidentconditions (crash severity, belt usage)were not appropriate to activate thesesafety devices.
•The design of the front airbags is toactivate only in frontal and near-frontalcrashes (not rollovers, side impacts orrear impacts) unless the crash causessufficient frontal deceleration.
•The design of the seatbeltpretensioners is to activate in frontal,near-frontal and side crashes, and inrollovers.
•The knee airbag(s) may deploy basedon crash severity and occupantconditions.

Low Tire Pressure Warning Lamp
It illuminates if the tire pressurein one or more tires is below thecorrect tire pressure.
Auto Start-Stop (If Equipped)
It illuminates to inform you whenthe engine shuts down or inconjunction with a message.
Service Engine Soon
If it illuminates when the engineis running this indicates amalfunction. The On BoardDiagnostics system has detected amalfunction of the vehicle emission controlsystem.
If it flashes, engine misfire may beoccurring. Increased exhaust gastemperatures could damage the catalyticconverter or other vehicle components.Drive in a moderate fashion (avoid heavyacceleration and deceleration) and haveyour vehicle immediately serviced.
It illuminates when you switch the ignitionon prior to engine start to check the bulband to indicate whether your vehicle isready for Inspection and Maintenance(I/M) testing.
Normally, it illuminates until the engine iscranked and automatically turns off if nomalfunctions are present. However, if after15 seconds it flashes eight times, thisindicates that your vehicle is not ready forInspection and Maintenance (I/M) testing.

Powertrain Malfunction
If it illuminates when driving, apowertrain fault has beendetected. Contact yourauthorized dealer as soon possible.
Oil Pressure Warning Lamp
It illuminates when you switchthe ignition on.
If it illuminates when the engineis running this indicates a malfunction.Stop your vehicle as soon as it is safe todo so and switch the engine off. Check theengine oil level. If the oil level is sufficient,this indicates a system malfunction. Haveyour vehicle checked immediately. SeeEngine Oil Check (page 208).
Engine Coolant TemperatureWarning Lamp
WARNING: Do not remove thecoolant reservoir cap when the engine ison or the cooling system is hot. Wait 10minutes for the cooling system to cooldown. Cover the coolant reservoir capwith a thick cloth to prevent thepossibility of scalding and slowly removethe cap. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in personal injury.
Note:Do not restart the engine until thecause of overheating has been determinedand resolved.
Note:Do not resume your journey if itilluminates despite the level being correct.Have the system checked by your authorizeddealer immediately.
Illuminates when the enginecoolant temperature is high.Stop the vehicle as soon aspossible, switch off the engine and let cool.Check the coolant level. See EngineCoolant Check (page 210).
If it stays on after starting or illuminateswhen driving, this indicates a malfunction.
