WARNINGS
To reduce risk of injury, do notobstruct or place objects in thedeployment path of the curtainairbag.
If the curtain airbags have deployed,the curtain airbags will not functionagain. The curtain airbags (includingthe A, B and C pillar trim and headliner)must be inspected and serviced by anauthorized dealer. If the curtain airbag isnot replaced, the unrepaired area willincrease the risk of injury in a crash.
The Safety Canopy will deploy duringsignificant side crashes or when a certainlikelihood of a rollover event is detectedby the rollover sensor. The Safety Canopyis mounted to the roof side-rail sheetmetal, behind the headliner, above eachrow of seats. In certain sideways crashesor rollover events, the Safety Canopy willbe activated, regardless of which seats areoccupied. The Safety Canopy is designedto inflate between the side window areaand occupants to further enhanceprotection provided in side impact crashesand rollover events.
The system consists of the following:
•Safety canopy curtain airbags locatedabove the trim panels over the frontand rear side windows identified by alabel or wording on the headliner orroof-pillar trim.
•A flexible headliner which opens abovethe side doors to allow air curtaindeployment
· Crash sensors and monitoringsystem with a readinessindicator. See Crash Sensorsand Airbag Indicator (page 40).
Children 12 years old and under shouldalways be properly restrained in the rearseats. The Safety Canopy will not interferewith children restrained using a properlyinstalled child or booster seat because itis designed to inflate downward from theheadliner above the doors along the sidewindow opening.
The design and development of the SafetyCanopy included recommended testingprocedures that were developed by agroup of automotive safety experts knownas the Side Airbag Technical WorkingGroup. These recommended testingprocedures help reduce the risk of injuriesrelated to the deployment of side airbags(including the Safety Canopy).
CRASH SENSORS AND
AIRBAG INDICATOR
WARNING
Modifying or adding equipment tothe front end of the vehicle (includingframe, bumper, front end bodystructure and tow hooks) may affect theperformance of the airbag system,increasing the risk of injury. Do not modifythe front end of the vehicle.

USING POWER RUNNING
BOARDS
WARNINGS
In extreme climates, excessive icebuildup may occur, causing therunning boards not to deploy. Makesure that the running boards havedeployed, and have finished moving beforeattempting to step on them. The runningboards will resume normal function oncethe blockage is cleared.
Turn off the running boards beforejacking or placing any object underyour vehicle. Never place your handbetween the extended running board andyour vehicle. A moving running board maycause injury.
Note:Do not use the running boards, frontand rear hinge assemblies, running boardmotors, or the running board underbodymounts to lift your vehicle when jacking.Always use proper jacking points.
Note:The running boards may operatemore slowly in cool temperatures.
Note:The running board mechanism maytrap debris such as mud, dirt, snow, ice andsalt. This may cause unwanted noise. If thishappens, manually set the running boardsto the deployed position. Then, wash thesystem, in particular the front and rear hingearms, with a high-pressure car wash wand.
Automatic Power Deploy
The running boards automatically extenddown and out when you open the door.This can help you enter and exit yourvehicle.
Automatic Power Stow
When you close the doors, the runningboards return to the stowed position aftera two-second delay.
Manual Power Deploy
You can manually operate the runningboards in the information display. SeeGeneral Information (page 91).
Set the running boards in the deployedposition to access the roof.
The running boards return to the stowedposition and enter automatic mode whenthe vehicle speed exceeds 5 mph (8 km/h).
Enabling and Disabling
You can enable and disable the powerrunning board feature in the informationdisplay. See General Information (page91).

The rear view mirror may have to beadjusted to its lower arm position toprevent interference when the childmindermirror is extended down.
REAR QUARTER WINDOWS (If
Equipped)
WARNINGS
Do not leave children unattended inyour vehicle and do not let them playwith the power windows. They mayseriously injure themselves.
When closing the power windows,you should verify they are free ofobstructions and make sure thatchildren and pets are not in the proximityof the window openings.
Press and hold the VENT control to openthe rear quarter windows.
Pull and hold the VENT control to closethe rear quarter windows.
Note:Vehicles without a moonroof will onlyhave the VENT control.
SUN VISORS
Rotate the sun visor toward the sidewindow and extend it rearward for extrashade.
Illuminated Vanity Mirror
Lift the cover to switch the lamp on.
MOONROOF (If Equipped)
WARNINGS
Do not let children play with themoonroof or leave them unattendedin the vehicle. They may seriouslyhurt themselves.

WARNINGS
When closing the moonroof, youshould verify that it is free ofobstructions and make sure thatchildren and pets are not in the proximityof the roof opening.
You can manually open or close the slidingshade when the moonroof is closed. Pullthe shade toward the front of your vehicleto close it.
The moonroof controls are located on theoverhead console and have a one-touchopen and close feature. To stop it duringone-touch operation, press the control asecond time.
Opening and Closing the Moonroof
Press and release the SLIDE control toopen the moonroof. The moonroof willstop short of the fully opened position.
Note:This position helps to reduce windnoise or rumbling which may happen withthe moonroof fully open. Press and releasethe control again to fully open themoonroof.
Pull and release the SLIDE control to closethe moonroof.
Bounce-Back
The moonroof will stop automaticallywhile closing. It will reverse some distanceif there is an obstacle in the way.
Pull and hold the SLIDE control within twoseconds of a bounce-back event tooverride this function. While bounce-backis active, the closing force increases foreach of the next three times that you closethe moonroof.
Venting the Moonroof
Press and release the TILT control to ventthe moonroof. Pull and hold the TILTcontrol to close the moonroof.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
WARNINGS
Vehicle modifications involvingbraking system, aftermarket roofracks, suspension, steering system,tire construction and wheel and tire sizemay change the handling characteristicsof your vehicle and may adversely affectthe performance of the electronic stabilitycontrol system. In addition, installing anystereo loudspeakers may interfere withand adversely affect the electronic stabilitycontrol system. Install any aftermarketstereo loudspeaker as far as possible fromthe front center console, the tunnel, andthe front seats in order to minimize the riskof interfering with the electronic stabilitycontrol sensors. Reducing theeffectiveness of the electronic stabilitycontrol system could lead to an increasedrisk of loss of vehicle control, vehiclerollover, personal injury and death.
Remember that even advancedtechnology cannot defy the laws ofphysics. It’s always possible to losecontrol of a vehicle due to inappropriatedriver input for the conditions. Aggressivedriving on any road condition can causeyou to lose control of your vehicleincreasing the risk of personal injury orproperty damage. Activation of theelectronic stability control system is anindication that at least some of the tireshave exceeded their ability to grip the road;this could reduce the operator’s ability tocontrol the vehicle potentially resulting ina loss of vehicle control, vehicle rollover,personal injury and death. If your electronicstability control system activates, SLOWDOWN.
The system automatically turns on eachtime you switch the ignition on.
If a fault occurs in either the stabilitycontrol or the traction control system, youmay experience the following conditions:
•The stability and traction control lightilluminates steadily.
•The stability control and tractioncontrol systems do not enhance yourvehicle's ability to maintain traction ofthe wheels.
If a driving condition activates either thestability control or the traction controlsystem you may experience the followingconditions:
•The stability and traction control lightflashes.
•Your vehicle slows down.
•Reduced engine power.
•A vibration in the brake pedal.
•The brake pedal is stiffer than usual.
•If the driving condition is severe andyour foot is not on the brake, the brakepedal may move as the system applieshigher brake force.
The stability control system has severalfeatures built into it to help you maintaincontrol of your vehicle:
Electronic Stability Control
The system enhances your vehicle’s abilityto prevent skids or lateral slides byapplying brakes to one or more of thewheels individually and, if necessary,reducing engine power.
Roll Stability Control
The system enhances your vehicle’s abilityto prevent rollovers by detecting yourvehicle’s roll motion and the rate at whichit changes by applying the brakes to oneor more wheels individually.

Third Row Storage Bin (If Equipped)
A storage compartment is located in thefloor behind the second row of seats.
Lift up on the handle to open the cover.
To close, lower the cover and press downon the handle until the latch clicks.
ROOF RACKS AND LOAD
CARRIERS
WARNING
When loading the roof racks, werecommend you evenly distribute theload, as well as maintain a lowcenter of gravity. Loaded vehicles, withhigher centers of gravity, may handledifferently than unloaded vehicles. Takeextra precautions, such as slower speedsand increased stopping distance, whendriving a heavily loaded vehicle.
The maximum recommended load, evenlydistributed on the crossbars, is 200 lb(90 kg).
Note:Never place loads directly on the roofpanel. The roof panel is not designed todirectly carry a load.
For correct roof rack system function, youmust place loads directly on crossbarsaffixed to the roof rack side rails. Whenusing the roof rack system, we recommendyou use Ford Genuine Accessory crossbarsdesigned specifically for your vehicle.
Make sure that you securely fasten theload. Check the tightness of the loadbefore driving and at each fuel stop.
Adjusting the Crossbar
1.Loosen the thumbwheels at both endsof the crossbar by turning themcounterclockwise (both crossbars areadjustable).
2. Slide the crossbar to the desiredlocation.
3.Tighten the thumbwheels at both endsof the crossbar by turning themclockwise.
Make sure to check that the thumbwheelsare tight each time you add or remove loadfrom the roof rack, and periodically whiletraveling. Make sure that the load is securebefore traveling.
