Your vehicle has anti-lock brakes, thereforeapply the brakes steadily. Do not “pump”the brakes.
Driving on Snow and Ice
WARNING: If you are driving inslippery conditions that require tirechains or cables, then it is critical thatyou drive cautiously. Keep speeds down,allow for longer stopping distances andavoid aggressive steering to reduce thechances of a loss of vehicle controlwhich can lead to serious injury or death.If the rear end of your vehicle slides whilecornering, steer in the direction of theslide until you regain control of yourvehicle.
Note:Excessive tire slippage can causedriveline damage.
4WD vehicles have advantages over 2WDvehicles in snow and ice but can skid likeany other vehicle.
Should you start to slide while driving onsnowy or icy roads, turn the steering wheelin the direction of the slide until you regaincontrol.
Avoid sudden applications of power andquick changes of direction on snow andice. Apply the accelerator slowly andsteadily when starting from a full stop.
Avoid sudden braking as well. Although a4WD vehicle could accelerate better thana two-wheel drive vehicle in snow and ice,it will not stop any faster, because as inother vehicles, braking occurs at all fourwheels. Do not become overconfident asto road conditions.
Make sure you allow sufficient distancebetween you and other vehicles forstopping. Drive slower than usual andconsider using one of the lower gears. Inemergency stopping situations, apply thebrake steadily. Since your vehicle comeswith a four wheel (ABS), do not “pump”the brakes. See Hints on Driving WithAnti-Lock Brakes (page 211).
Maintenance and Modifications
The suspension and steering systems onyour vehicle have been designed andtested to provide predictable performancewhether loaded or empty and durable loadcarrying capability. For this reason, westrongly recommend that you do not makemodifications such as adding or removingparts (such as lowering kits or stabilizerbars) or by using replacement parts notequivalent to the original factoryequipment.
Any modifications to a vehicle that raisethe center of gravity can make it more likelythe vehicle will rollover as a result of a lossof control. We strongly recommend thatcaution be used with any vehicle equippedwith a high load or device (such as ladderor luggage racks).
Failure to maintain your vehicle properlycould void the warranty, increase yourrepair cost, reduce vehicle performanceand operational capabilities and adverselyaffect driver and passenger safety.Frequent inspection of vehicle chassiscomponents is recommended if the vehicleis subjected to off-highway usage.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Note: Occasional brake noise is normal. Ifa metal-to-metal, continuous grinding orcontinuous squeal sound is present, thebrake linings may be worn. Have your vehiclechecked. If the vehicle has continuousvibration or shudder in the steering wheelwhile braking, have your vehicle checked.
Note: Brake dust may accumulate on thewheels, even under normal drivingconditions. Some dust is inevitable as thebrakes wear and does not contribute tobrake noise. Wet brakes result in reducedbraking efficiency. Gently press the brakepedal a few times when driving from a carwash or standing water to dry the brakes.
See Cleaning the Wheels (page 344).
Brake Over Accelerator
In the event the accelerator pedalbecomes stuck or entrapped, apply steadyand firm pressure to the brake pedal toslow the vehicle and reduce engine power.If you experience this condition, apply thebrakes and bring your vehicle to a safestop. Switch the engine off, move thetransmission to park (P) and apply theparking brake. Inspect the acceleratorpedal and the area around it for any itemsor debris that may be obstructing itsmovement. If none are found and thecondition persists, have your vehiclechecked. If your vehicle has to be towed,we recommend that you contact aprofessional towing service.
Emergency Brake Assist
Emergency brake assist detects when youbrake heavily by measuring the rate atwhich you press the brake pedal. Itprovides maximum braking efficiency aslong as you press the pedal. Emergencybrake assist can reduce stopping distancesin critical situations.
Anti-lock Brake System
This system helps you maintain steeringcontrol during emergency stops by keepingthe brakes from locking.
This lamp illuminatesmomentarily when you switchthe ignition on to confirm thelamp is functional.
If the warning lamp does not illuminateduring start up, remains on or flashes, thesystem may be disabled. Have the systemchecked. If the anti-lock brake system isdisabled, normal braking is still operational.

Note:Indicators vary depending on region.
This lamp illuminatesmomentarily when you switchthe ignition on to confirm thelamp is functional. If it does notilluminate when you switch theignition on, or if it begins to flashat any time except the time during applyingor releasing the parking brake, have thesystem checked.
Regenerative Braking System
This feature simulates the engine brakingof an internal combustion engine andassist the standard brake system whilerecovering some of the energy of motionand storing it in the battery to improve fueleconomy. The standard brake system isdesigned to fully stop the car ifregenerative braking is not available.During regenerative braking, the motor isspun as a generator to create electricalcurrent. This recharges the battery andslows the vehicle. Once the acceleratorpedal is released, the motor changes froman energy user to an energy producer.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
WARNING: Vehicle modificationsinvolving braking system, aftermarketroof racks, suspension, steering system,tire construction and wheel and tire sizemay change the handling characteristicsof your vehicle and may adversely affectthe performance of the electronicstability control system. In addition,installing any stereo loudspeakers mayinterfere with and adversely affect theelectronic stability control system. Installany aftermarket stereo loudspeaker asfar as possible from the front centerconsole, the tunnel, and the front seatsin order to minimize the risk of interferingwith the electronic stability controlsensors. Reducing the effectiveness ofthe electronic stability control systemcould lead to an increased risk of loss ofvehicle control, vehicle rollover, personalinjury and death.
WARNING: Remember that evenadvanced technology cannot defy thelaws of physics. It’s always possible tolose control of a vehicle due toinappropriate driver input for theconditions. Aggressive driving on anyroad condition can cause you to losecontrol of your vehicle increasing the riskof personal injury or property damage.Activation of the electronic stabilitycontrol system is an indication that atleast some of the tires have exceededtheir ability to grip the road; this couldreduce the operator’s ability to controlthe vehicle potentially resulting in a lossof vehicle control, vehicle rollover,personal injury and death. If yourelectronic stability control systemactivates, SLOW DOWN.
The system automatically turns on eachtime you switch the ignition on.
If a driving condition activates either thestability control or the traction controlsystem you may experience the followingconditions:
•The stability and traction control lightflashes.
•Your vehicle slows down.
•Reduced engine power.
•A vibration in the brake pedal.
•The brake pedal is stiffer than usual.
•If the driving condition is severe andyour foot is not on the brake, the brakepedal may move as the systemsapplies higher brake forces.
The stability control system has severalfeatures built into it to help you maintaincontrol of your vehicle:
Electronic Stability Control
The system enhances your vehicle’s abilityto prevent skids or lateral slides byapplying brakes to one or more of thewheels individually and, if necessary,reducing engine power.
Roll Stability Control
The system enhances your vehicle’s abilityto prevent rollovers by detecting yourvehicle’s roll motion and the rate at whichit changes by applying the brakes to oneor more wheels individually.
Curve Control
The system enhances your vehicle’s abilityto follow the road when cornering severelyor avoiding objects in the roadway. CurveControl operates by reducing engine powerand, if necessary, applying brakes to oneor more of the wheels individually.

Note: When towing, the camera only seeswhat you are towing. This might not provideadequate coverage as it usually provides innormal operation and some objects mightnot be seen. In some vehicles, the guidelinesmay disappear when you connect the trailertow connector.
The camera may not operate correctlyunder the following conditions:
•Nighttime or dark areas if one or bothreverse lamps are not operating.
•Mud, water or debris obstructs thecamera's view. Clean the lens with asoft, lint-free cloth and non-abrasivecleaner. You can also use the rearwasher to clean the camera. See RearWindow Wiper and Washers (page85).
•The rear of your vehicle is hit ordamaged, causing the camera tobecome misaligned.
Camera System Settings
The rear view camera system settings canbe accessed through the touchscreen. SeeSettings (page 458).

The fixed and active guidelines fade in andout depending on the steering wheelposition. The active guidelines do notdisplay when the steering wheel positionis straight.
Always use caution while reversing.Objects in the red zone are closest to yourvehicle and objects in the green zone arefarther away. Objects are getting closer toyour vehicle as they move from the greenzone to the yellow or red zones. Use theside view mirrors and rear view mirror toget better coverage on both sides and rearof the vehicle.
Obstacle Distance Indicator (If
Equipped)
The system will provide an image of yourvehicle and the sensor zones. The zoneswill highlight green, yellow and red whenthe parking aid sensors detect an object inthe coverage area.
Manual Zoom
WARNING: When manual zoom ison, the full area behind your vehicle maynot show. Be aware of your surroundingswhen using the manual zoom feature.
Note:Manual zoom is only available whenthe transmission is in reverse (R).
Note:When you enable manual zoom, onlythe centerline is shown.
Selectable settings for this feature areZoom in (+) and Zoom out (-). Press thesymbol in the camera screen to change theview. The default setting is Zoom OFF.
This allows you to get a closer view of anobject behind your vehicle. The zoomedimage keeps the bumper in the image toprovide a reference. The zoom is onlyactive while the transmission is in reverse(R).
Rear Camera Delay
Selectable settings for this feature are ONand OFF.
The default setting for the rear cameradelay is OFF.
When shifting the transmission out ofreverse (R) and into any gear other thanpark (P), the camera image remains in thedisplay until:
•Your vehicle speed reachesapproximately 5 mph (8 km/h).
•You shift your vehicle into park (P).

WHAT IS CRUISE CONTROL
Cruise control lets you maintain a setspeed without keeping your foot on theaccelerator pedal.
Requirements
Use cruise control when the vehicle speedis greater than 20 mph (30 km/h).
SWITCHING CRUISE CONTROL
ON AND OFF
WARNING: Do not use cruisecontrol on winding roads, in heavy trafficor when the road surface is slippery. Thiscould result in loss of vehicle control,serious injury or death.
The cruise controls are on the steeringwheel.
Switching Cruise Control On
Press the button to put thesystem in standby mode.
Switching Cruise Control Off
Press the button when instandby mode or switch theignition off.
Note:When you switch cruise control offthe set speed clears.
SETTING THE CRUISE
CONTROL SPEED
WARNING: When you are goingdownhill, your vehicle speed couldincrease above the set speed. Thesystem does not apply the brakes.
Drive to the speed you prefer.
Press the toggle button upwardor downward to set the currentspeed.
Take your foot off the accelerator pedal.
Note:The indicator changes color in theinformation display.
Changing the Set Speed
Press and release the togglebutton upward to increase theset speed in small increments.
Press and hold the toggle button upwardto accelerate. Release the button whenyou have reached your preferred speed.
Press and release the togglebutton downward to decreasethe set speed in smallincrements.
Press and hold the toggle buttondownward to decelerate. Release thebutton when you have reached yourpreferred speed.
Note: If you accelerate by pressing theaccelerator pedal, the set speed does notchange. When you release the acceleratorpedal, your vehicle returns to the speed thatyou previously set.

WORK
Adaptive cruise control with stop and gouses radar and camera sensors to adjustthe speed of your vehicle to maintain a setgap from the vehicle in front of you in thesame lane while following it to a completestop. You can also engage the system tofollow a vehicle in front of you and adjustset speed while stopped.

WHAT IS INTELLIGENT
ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
Intelligent adaptive cruise controlcombines speed sign recognition withadaptive cruise control to adjust the cruiseset speed to the speed limit detected bythe speed sign recognition system. Forexample, if the speed sign recognitionsystem detects a 50 mph (80 km/h)speed limit, the cruise set speed is updatedto 50 mph (80 km/h) +/- the driver'sselected speed offset.
Note:The adaptive cruise control gapsetting operates normally.

Use the touchscreen to select thefollowing:
1.Select Settings.
2.Select Driver Assist.
3.Select Cruise Control.
4.Select Normal.
The cruise control indicatorreplaces the adaptive cruisecontrol indicator if you selectnormal cruise control. The gap settingdoes not display, and the system does notrespond to lead vehicles. Automaticbraking remains active to maintain setspeed. The system remembers the lastsetting when you start your vehicle.
SWITCHING LANE CENTERING
ON AND OFF
The cruise controls are on the steeringwheel. See Cruise Control (page 81).
Press the button.
The indicator appears in the informationdisplay. When the system is on, the colorof the indicator changes to indicate thesystem status. See Adaptive CruiseControl Indicators (page 248).
Note:Adaptive cruise control must be onbefore you can switch lane centering on.
Activating Lane Centering
The system only activates when all of thefollowing occur:
•You have adaptive cruise control withstop-and-go on.
•Your hands are on the steering wheel.
•The system detects both lanemarkings.
Note:If it does not detect valid lanemarkings, the system stays inactive untilvalid markings are available.
You can override the system at any timeby steering your vehicle.
System Alerts and AutomaticCancellation
You must keep your hands on the steeringwheel at all times.
When the system is active and detects nosteering activity for a certain period of time,the system alerts you to put your hands onthe steering wheel. If you do not react tothe warnings the system cancels and slowsyour vehicle down to idle speeds whilemaintaining steering control.
The system also alerts you if your vehiclecrosses lane markings without detectedsteering activity.
Note:The system may detect a light gripor touch on the steering wheel as hands-offdriving.
When an external condition cancels thesystem, for example, no lane markingsavailable, a tone sounds and a messageappears in the information display.
If your vehicle starts to slowdown, you must provide steeringinput to the wheel and press andrelease the button to regain full systemperformance.
Automatic cancellation can also occur if:
•The lane becomes too wide or toonarrow.
•The system cannot detect valid lanemarkings.
•Lane markings are crossed.
Note:The system disables until the nextkey cycle if your vehicle slows down due todriver inactivity twice within a key cycle.

If your vehicle continues drifting out of thelane after the lane keeping aid corrects thevehicle, the system provides a steeringwheel vibration.
If your vehicle stays to one side of the laneafter the lane keeping aid corrects yourvehicle and then subsequently drifts outof the lane again, the system only providesan alert at the steering wheel.
Note:The alert and aid diagrams illustrategeneral zone coverage. They do not provideexact zone parameters.
Intensity: This setting affects the intensityof the steering wheel vibration used for thealert (if equipped) and alert + aid modes.This setting does not affect the aidmode.

System Display
When you switch the system on, a graphicof lane markings appears in theinformation display.
When you switch the system off, the lanemarking graphics do not display.
While the system is on, the color of thelane markings change to indicate thesystem status. These colors represent thefollowing:
Gray: Indicates that the system istemporarily unable to provide a warningor intervention on the indicated side. Thismay be because:

After you turn the steering wheel, thesystem applies additional steering torqueto help you steer around the vehicle. Afteryou pass the vehicle, the system appliessteering torque in the opposite direction toencourage you to steer back into the lane.The system deactivates after you fully passthe vehicle.
Note:The system does not automaticallysteer around a vehicle. If you do not turn thesteering wheel, the system does notactivate.
Note:The system does not activate if thedistance to the vehicle ahead is too smalland the system cannot avoid a crash.
Adjusting the Pre-Collision AssistSettings
You can adjust the following settings byusing the touchscreen.
•You can change Alert and DistanceAlert sensitivity to one of three possiblesettings.
•You can switch distance indication andalert on or off.
•If required, you can switch activebraking on or off.
•If required, you can switch evasivesteering assist on or off.
Note:Active braking and evasive steeringassist automatically turn on every time youswitch the ignition on.
Note:If you switch active braking off,evasive steering assist turns off.
Blocked Sensors

If a message regarding a blocked sensoror camera appears in the informationdisplay, you have obstructed radar signalsor camera images. If your vehicle has aradar sensor, it is behind the fascia coverin the center of the lower grille. With ablocked sensor or camera, the system maynot function, or performance may reduce.The following table lists possible causesand actions for when this messagedisplays.
