Recommended Settings for Cooling

Heated Rear Window
Note:Make sure the engine is runningbefore operating the heated windows.
Press the button to clear theheated rear window of thin iceand fog. The heated rearwindow automatically turns off after ashort period of time.
Note: Do not use razor blades or othersharp objects to clean or remove decalsfrom the inside of the heated rear window.The vehicle warranty does not coverdamage caused to the heated rear windowgrid lines.
Heated Exterior Mirrors
When you switch the heated rear windowon, the heated exterior mirrorsautomatically turn on.

CABIN AIR FILTER
Your vehicle is equipped with a cabin airfilter, which gives you and your passengersthe following benefits:
•It improves your driving comfort byreducing particle concentration.
•It improves the interior compartmentcleanliness.
•It protects the climate controlcomponents from particle deposits.
You can locate the cabin air filter behindthe glove box.
Note:Make sure you have a cabin air filterinstalled at all times. This prevents foreignobjects from entering the system. Runningthe system without a filter in place couldresult in degradation or damage to thesystem.
Replace the filter at regular intervals. SeeScheduled Maintenance (page 573).
For additional cabin air filter information,or to replace the filter, see an authorizeddealer.
REMOTE START (If Equipped)
You can switch this feature on or off andadjust the settings using the informationdisplay.
The system adjusts the interiortemperature depending on your chosensettings during remote start.
You cannot adjust the climate controlsetting during remote start operation.When you switch the ignition on, theclimate control system returns to theprevious settings. You can now makeadjustments.
You need to switch on certainvehicle-dependent features, such as:
•Heated seats.
•Cooled seats.
•Heated steering wheel.
•Heated mirrors.
•Heated rear window.
Automatic Settings
In hot weather, the system is set to 72°F(22°C). The cooled seats are set to high(if available, and selected to AUTO in theinformation display).
In moderate weather, the system eitherheats or cools (based on previoussettings). The rear defroster, heatedmirrors and heated or cooled seats do notautomatically turn on.
In cold weather, the system is set to 72°F(22°C). The heated seats are set to high(if available, and selected to AUTO in theinformation display). The heated rearwindow and heated mirrors automaticallyturn on.

The heated seat module resets at everyignition run cycle. While the ignition is inthe on position, press the heated seatswitch to enable heating mode. Whenactivated, they turn off automatically whenyou switch off the engine.

Heated Seats
WARNING
People who are unable to feel painto their skin because of advancedage, chronic illness, diabetes, spinalcord injury, medication, alcohol use,exhaustion or other physical conditions,must exercise care when using the heatedseat. The heated seat may cause burnseven at low temperatures, especially ifused for long periods of time. Do not placeanything on the seat that insulates againstheat, such as a blanket or cushion. Thismay cause the heated seat to overheat.Do not puncture the seat with pins, needlesor other pointed objects. This may damagethe heating element which may cause theheated seat to overheat. An overheatedseat may cause serious personal injury.
Do not do the following:
•Place heavy objects on the seat.
•Operate the heated seat if water or anyother liquid spills on the seat. Allow theseat to dry thoroughly.
Note:The engine must be running to usethis feature.

Climate Controlled Seat Air FilterReplacement
The climate controlled seat systemincludes air filters. You must replace themperiodically.
The filter is located under each front seat.Access the filter from the second rowfootwell area. Move the front seats all theway to the full front and full up positionsto ease access.
To remove a filter:
1. Turn the vehicle off.
2. Push up on the outside rigid edge ofthe filter until the tabs are released,then remove the filter.
To install a filter:
1. First, position the filter in its housingmaking sure that the far forward endis all the way up in the housing.
2. Push in on the center of the outsideedge of the filter and rotate clockwiseinto the housing until it clips intoposition.

Guarding Against Exhaust Fumes
WARNING
Exhaust leaks may result in entry ofharmful and potentially lethal fumesinto the passenger compartment. Ifyou smell exhaust fumes inside yourvehicle, have your vehicle inspectedimmediately. Do not drive if you smellexhaust fumes.
Important Ventilating Information
If you stop your vehicle and then leave theengine idling for long periods of time, werecommend that you do one of thefollowing:
•Open the windows at least 1 inch (2.5centimeters).
•Set your climate control to outside air.
STARTING A DIESEL ENGINE -
6.7L DIESEL
Read all starting instructions carefullybefore you start your vehicle.
For temperatures below 32°F (0°C), theuse of the correct grade engine oil isessential for proper operation. Refer toengine oil specifications for moreinformation. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 427).
Your vehicle may have a cold weatherstarting strategy that prevents severeengine damage by assisting in enginelubrication warm-up. In extremely coldambient temperatures, this strategyactivates and prevents the acceleratorpedal from being used for 30 seconds afteryou start your vehicle. A message appearsin the information display as your vehiclewarms up. By not allowing the acceleratorpedal to be used, the engine oil is allowedto properly lubricate the bearings
preventing engine damage due to lack ofproper lubrication. After the 30 secondwarm-up period, the accelerator pedal willbe operational again and a messageappears informing you the vehicle is ok todrive.
When you start the engine in extremelycold temperatures -15°F (-26°C), werecommend that you allow the engine toidle for several minutes before you drivethe vehicle.
Before starting the engine check thefollowing:
•Make sure all occupants have fastenedtheir seatbelts.
•Make sure the headlamps andelectrical accessories are off.
•Make sure the parking brake is on.
•Make sure the transmission is in park(P).
Note:Do not press the accelerator duringstarting.
Diesel Engine Fast Start Glow PlugSystem
The diesel engine glow system consists of:
•Eight glow plugs (one per cylinder)
•Glow Plug Control Module
•Engine Coolant Temperature sensor
•Barometric pressure sensor
•Environmental temperature sensor
The powertrain and glow plug controlmodules electronically control the glowplug system. After you switch the ignitionon, the glow plug control moduleimmediately energizes the glow plugs. Theglow plug control module uses the enginecoolant temperature, barometric pressuresensor and environmental temperature

Starting and Stopping the Engine

To help prolong engine life, werecommended you allow the engine to idlefor three to five minutes, especially afterany of the following:
•Continuous engine speed.
•High ambient temperature.
•High GVW or GCW operation, forexample heavy loads or trailers.
This allows the turbo charged engine tocool down.
ENGINE IDLE SHUTDOWN (If
Equipped)
Your vehicle may be equipped with anengine idle shutdown system. This systemautomatically shuts down your enginewhen it has been idling in P (Park) or N(Neutral) for five minutes (parking brakeset) or 15 minutes (parking brake not set).When the engine idle shutdown processhas started:
•A chime sounds and the informationdisplay will show ENGINE TURNS OFFIN 30 (seconds) and start countingdown
•You can restart the five or 15-minutetimer by changing the position of theaccelerator pedal, brake pedal or thepark brake within the final 30 seconds
•When the timer reaches zero, theengine shuts down and this messagewill appear in your information displayENGINE TURNED OFF
•One minute after the engine has shutdown, the electrical system simulateskey off, even though the ignition is stillin the on position, initiating normalaccessory delay period
•You must move the ignition to the offposition to reset the system beforerestarting your vehicle.
The engine idle shutdown idle timer doesnot start if:
•The engine is operating in powertake-off mode.
•The engine coolant temperature isbelow 60°F (16°C).
•The exhaust emission control device isregenerating.
ENGINE BLOCK HEATER (If
Equipped)
WARNINGS
Failure to follow engine block heaterinstructions could result in propertydamage or serious personal injury.
Do not use your heater withungrounded electrical systems ortwo-pronged adapters. There is a riskof electrical shock.
Note:The heater is most effective whenoutdoor temperatures are below 0°F(-18°C).
The heater acts as a starting aid bywarming the engine coolant. This allowsthe climate control system to respondquickly. The equipment includes a heaterelement (installed in the engine block) anda wire harness. You can connect thesystem to a grounded 120-volt ACelectrical source.

Starting and Stopping the Engine

When backing down a ramp during boatlaunching or retrieval:
•Do not allow the static water level torise above the bottom edge of the rearbumper.
•Do not allow waves to break higherthan 6 in (15 cm) above the bottomedge of the rear bumper.
Exceeding these limits may allow water toenter vehicle components:
•Causing internal damage to thecomponents.
•Affecting driveability, emissions, andreliability.
Replace the rear axle lubricant anytimethe rear axle has been submerged in water.Water may have contaminated the rearaxle lubricant, which is not normallychecked or changed unless a leak issuspected or other axle repair is required.
TOWING THE VEHICLE ON
FOUR WHEELS
WARNING
If your vehicle has a steering wheellock make sure the ignition is in theaccessory or on position when beingtowed.
Emergency Towing
If your vehicle becomes inoperable(without access to wheel dollies,car-hauling trailer, or flatbed transportvehicle), it can be flat-towed (all wheelson the ground, regardless of the powertrainand transmission configuration) under thefollowing conditions:
•Your vehicle is facing forward fortowing in a forward direction.
•Place the transmission in neutral (N).If you cannot move the transmissioninto neutral (N), you may need tooverride it. See Transmission (page205).
•Maximum speed is 35 mph (56 km/h).
•Maximum distance is 50 mi (80 km).
WARNING
If your vehicle has a steering wheellock make sure the ignition is in theaccessory or on position when beingtowed.
Recreational Towing
Note:Put your climate control system inrecirculated air mode to prevent exhaustfumes from entering your vehicle. SeeClimate Control (page 145).
Follow these guidelines if you have a needfor recreational towing, such as towingyour vehicle behind a motorhome. We havedesigned these guidelines to preventdamage to your transmission.
Two-wheel Drive Vehicles
Do not tow your vehicle with any wheelson the ground, as vehicle or transmissiondamage may occur. It is recommended totow your vehicle with all four (4) wheelsoff the ground, such as when using acar-hauling trailer. Otherwise, you cannottow your vehicle.

Make sure that you dispose of old batteriesin an environmentally friendly way. Seekadvice from your local authority aboutrecycling old batteries.
If storing your vehicle for more than 30days without recharging the battery, werecommend that you disconnect thebattery cables to maintain battery chargefor quick starting.
Battery Management System (If
Equipped)
The battery management system monitorsbattery conditions and takes actions toextend battery life. If excessive batterydrain is detected, the system temporarilydisables some electrical systems toprotect the battery.
Systems included are:
•Heated rear window.
•Heated seats.
•Climate control.
•Heated steering wheel.
•Audio unit.
•Navigation system.
A message may appear in the informationdisplays to alert you that batteryprotection actions are active. Thesemessages are only for notification that anaction is taking place, and not intended toindicate an electrical problem or that thebattery requires replacement.
After battery replacement, or in somecases after charging the battery with anexternal charger, the battery managementsystem requires eight hours of vehicle sleeptime to relearn the battery state of charge.During this time your vehicle must remainfully locked with the ignition switched off.
Note:Prior to relearning the battery stateof charge, the battery management systemmay temporarily disable some electricalsystems.
Electrical Accessory Installation
To make sure the battery managementsystem works correctly, do not connect anelectrical device ground connectiondirectly to the battery negative post. Thiscan cause inaccurate measurements ofthe battery condition and potentialincorrect system operation.
Note:If you add electrical accessories orcomponents to the vehicle, it may adverselyaffect battery performance and durability.This may also affect the performance ofother electrical systems in the vehicle.
CHECKING THE WIPER
BLADES
Run the tip of your fingers over the edge ofthe blade to check for roughness.
Clean the wiper blades with washer fluidor water applied with a soft sponge orcloth.
CHANGING THE WIPER
BLADES
You can manually move the wiper armswhen the ignition is off. This allows for easeof blade replacement and cleaning underthe blades.
