COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM

Principle Of Operation (If Equipped)
WARNINGS
This system is an extra driving aid. Itdoes not replace your attention andjudgment, or the need to apply thebrakes. This system does NOTautomatically brake your vehicle. If you failto press the brake pedal when necessary,you may collide with another vehicle.
The collision warning system withbrake support cannot help preventall collisions. Do not rely on thissystem to replace your judgment and theneed to maintain correct distance andspeed.
Note:The system does not detect, warn orrespond to potential collisions with vehiclesto the rear or sides of your vehicle.
Note:The collision warning system is activeat speeds above approximately 5 mph(8 km/h).
Note:The collision warning system will beunavailable if you disable the electronicstability control. See Using StabilityControl (page 227).
The system alerts you of certain collisionrisks. The system's sensor detects yourvehicle's rapid approach to other vehiclestraveling in the same direction as yourvehicle.
When your vehicle rapidly approachesanother vehicle, a red warning light flashesand a tone sounds.
The brake support system assists you inreducing any collision speed bypre-charging the brakes. If the risk ofcollision continues to increases after theaudio-visual warning, the brake supportprepares the brake system for rapidbraking. The system does notautomatically activate the brakes, but ifthe brake pedal is pressed even lightly, thebrakes apply full stopping power.
Using the Collision Warning System
WARNING
The collision warning system’s brakesupport reduces collision speed onlyif you brake your vehicle before anycollision. As in any typical braking situation,you must press your brake pedal.
You can use your information displaycontrol to adjust the collision warningsystem's sensitivity or to turn the systemOn or Off. Your vehicle will rememberthese settings across key cycles. You maychange the collision warning systemsensitivity to any one of three possiblesettings. See General Information (page111).

Note:It is recommended that you turn thecollision warning system off if a snow plowor similar object is installed in such a waythat it may block the radar sensor. Yourvehicle will remember the selected settingacross key cycles.
Note:When possible, the manufacturerrecommends using the highest sensitivitysetting. If warnings are too frequent, you canreduce your system's sensitivity. Reducedsensitivity causes fewer and later systemwarnings. See General Information (page111).
Blocked Sensors
If a blocked sensor message appears in theinformation display, dirt, water, or an objectis blocking the sensor. The sensor islocated behind a cover near the driver sideof the lower grille. If anything blocks thesensor, your vehicle cannot see throughthe sensor, and the collision warningsystem will not work. Possible causes forthe blocked sensor message and correctiveactions are listed below.

System Limitations
WARNING
The collision warning system’s brakesupport only reduces collision speedif you first apply your brakes. Youmust brake as you would in any typicalbraking situation.
Due to the nature of radar technology,there may be certain instances wherevehicles do not provide a collision warning.These include:
•Stationary vehicles or vehicles movingbelow 6 mph (10 km/h).
•Pedestrians or objects in the roadway.
•Oncoming vehicles in the same lane.
•Severe weather conditions (seeblocked sensor section).
•Debris build-up on the grille near theheadlamps (see blocked sensorsection).
•Small distance to vehicle ahead.
•Large steering wheel and pedalmovements (very active driving style).
Damage to the front end of your vehiclemay alter the radar sensor's coverage area.This may result in missed or false collisionwarnings. Have an authorized dealer checkyour radar sensor for proper coverage andoperation.

•Front wheel toe may requirere-adjustment to prevent prematureuneven tire wear. Specifications are inthe Ford Workshop Manual.
•Headlight aim may requirere-adjustment.
•The tire air pressures recommendedfor general driving are on the vehicle’sSafety Certification Label. Themaximum cold inflation pressure forthe tire and associated load rating ison the tire sidewall. Tire air pressuremay require re-adjustment within thesepressure limits to accommodate theadditional weight of the snowplowinstallation.
•Federal and some local regulationsrequire additional exterior lamps forsnowplow-equipped vehicles. Consultyour authorized dealer for additionalinformation.
Operating the Vehicle with theSnowplow Attached
Note:Do not use your vehicle for snowremoval until you have driven at least500 mi (800 km).
Ford recommends vehicle speed does notexceed 45 mph (72 km/h) whensnowplowing.
The attached snowplow blade restrictsairflow to the radiator, and may cause theengine to run at a higher temperature:Attention to engine temperature isespecially important when outsidetemperatures are above freezing. Anglethe blade to maximize airflow to theradiator and monitor engine temperatureto determine whether a left or right angleprovides the best performance.
Follow the severe duty schedule in yourScheduled Maintenance information forengine oil and transmission fluid changeintervals.
Snowplowing with your AirbagEquipped Vehicle
WARNINGS
Do not attempt to service, repair, ormodify the airbag supplementalrestraint system (SRS) or its fuses.Contact an authorized dealer.
Additional equipment for examplesnowplow equipment may affect theperformance of the airbag sensorsincreasing the risk of injury. Please refer tothe Body Builders Layout Book forinstructions about the appropriateinstallation of additional equipment.
All occupants of the vehicle,including the driver, should alwaysproperly wear their seatbelt, evenwhen provided with an airbagsupplemental restraint system (SRS).
Your vehicle is equipped with a driver andpassenger airbag supplemental restraintsystem. The supplemental restraint systemwill activate in certain frontal and offsetfrontal collisions when the vehicle sustainssufficient frontal deceleration.
Careless or high speed driving whileplowing snow that results in sufficientvehicle decelerations can deploy theairbags. Such driving also increases the riskof accidents.
Never remove or defeat the trippingmechanisms designed into the snowremoval equipment by its manufacturer.Doing so may cause damage to the vehicleand the snow removal equipment as wellas possible airbag deployment.
Engine temperature while plowing
When driving with a plow, your engine mayrun at a higher temperature than normalbecause the attached snowplow blade willrestrict airflow to the radiator.

CHANGING THE ENGINE AIR
FILTER - 6.2L/6.8L
WARNING
To reduce the risk of vehicle damageand personal burn injuries, do notstart your engine with the air cleanerremoved and do not remove it while theengine is running.
Use the correct specification air filterelement. See Motorcraft Parts (page419).
Note: Failure to use the correct air filterelement may result in severe enginedamage. Resulting component damagemay not be covered by the vehicle Warranty.
Change the air filter element at the correctservice interval. See ScheduledMaintenance (page 573).
1. Disconnect the mass air flow sensorelectrical connector.
2. Remove the air intake tube securingclamp.
3. Pull the air intake tube away from theair filter housing.
4. Remove the clips that secure the airfilter housing cover. Remove the airfilter housing cover.

5.Remove the air filter element from theair filter housing.
6. Install in the reverse order.

WARNINGS
To reduce the risk of seriousinjury, when mountingreplacement tires and wheels, youshould not exceed the maximumpressure indicated on the sidewallof the tire to set the beads withoutadditional precautions listedbelow. If the beads do not seat atthe maximum pressure indicated,re-lubricate and try again.
When inflating the tire formounting pressures up to 20 psi(1.38 bar) greater than themaximum pressure on the tiresidewall, the followingprecautions must be taken toprotect the person mounting thetire:
1. Make sure that you have thecorrect tire and wheel size.
2. Lubricate the tire bead andwheel bead seat area again.
3. Stand at a minimum of 12 ft(3.66 m) away from the wheeland tire assembly.
4. Use both eye and earprotection.
For a mounting pressuremore than 20 psi (1.38 bar)greater than the maximumpressure, a Ford dealer or othertire service professional should dothe mounting.
WARNINGS
Always inflate steel carcasstires with a remote air fill withthe person inflating standing at aminimum of 12 ft (3.66 m) awayfrom the wheel and tire assembly.
Important: Remember to replacethe wheel valve stems when theroad tires are replaced on yourvehicle.
The two front tires or two rear tiresshould generally be replaced as apair.
The tire pressure sensors mountedin the wheels are not designed tobe used in aftermarket wheels.
The use of wheels or tires notrecommended by Ford MotorCompany may affect theoperation of your tire pressuremonitoring system.
If the tire pressure monitoringsystem indicator is flashing, thesystem is malfunctioning. Yourreplacement tire might beincompatible with your tirepressure monitoring system, orsome component of the systemmay be damaged.
