Opening the Hood
1.Lift and release the hood latches onboth sides of your vehicle.
2.Fully disengage the hood latches onboth sides of your vehicle.
3.Tilt the hood fully forward until held bythe gas struts.
Note:Open the hood from the front of thegrille.
Closing the Hood
1.Push the hood rearward above thegrille until fully closed.
2.Engage the hood latches on both sidesof your vehicle.
3.Fully close the hood latches on bothsides of your vehicle.

We recommend the following actions afteroperating the vehicle up to 200 mi(320 km) in heavy snowfall or extremerain:
•Snow: At the earliest opportunity, openthe hood and clear all the snow and icefrom the air filter housing inlet. Do NOTremove the foam filter and reset theair filter restriction gauge.
•Extreme rain: The air filter dries afterabout 15–30 minutes at highwayspeeds. At the earliest opportunity,open the hood and reset the air filterrestriction gauge.
Air Filter Replacement
When replacing the air filter element, usea Motorcraft® air filter element. SeeMotorcraft Parts (page 293).
Note:Failure to use the correct air filterelement may result in severe enginedamage.
1.Locate the mass airflow sensorelectrical connector on the air inlettube. Disconnect the electricalconnector. Unlock the locking clip onthe connector, then squeeze and pullthe connector off the air inlet tube.
2.Remove the clips that secure the airfilter housing cover. Push the air filtercover forward and away from you whenpulling up slightly to release it.
3.Remove the air filter element from theair filter housing.

Cooling system
•Protect against freezing temperatures.
•When removing your vehicle fromstorage, check coolant fluid level.Confirm that there are no coolingsystem leaks and that fluid is at therecommended level.
Disconnecting Your 12 Volt Battery
•Check and recharge as necessary. Keepconnections clean.
•If storing your vehicle for more than 30days without recharging the battery,we recommend that you disconnectthe battery cables to maintain batterycharge for quick starting.
Note:It is necessary to reset memoryfeatures if you disconnect the batterycables.
Brakes
•Make sure the brakes and parking brakerelease fully.
Tires
•Maintain recommended air pressure.
Miscellaneous
•Make sure all linkages, cables, leversand pins under your vehicle are coveredwith grease to prevent rust.
•Move vehicles at least 25 ft (7.5 m)every 15 days to lubricate working partsand prevent corrosion.
Removing Vehicle From Storage
When your vehicle is ready to come out ofstorage, do the following:
•Wash your vehicle to remove any dirtor grease film build-up on windowsurfaces.
•Check windshield wipers for anydeterioration.
•Check under the hood for any foreignmaterial that may have collectedduring storage such as mice or squirrelnests.
•Check the exhaust for any foreignmaterial that may have collectedduring storage.
•Check tire pressures and set tireinflation per the Tire Label.
•Check brake pedal operation. Driveyour vehicle 15 ft (4.5 m) back andforth to remove rust build-up.
•Check fluid levels (including coolant,oil and gas) to make sure there are noleaks, and fluids are at recommendedlevels.
•If you remove the battery, clean thebattery cable ends and check fordamage.
