Use the following guidelines to avoidelectrostatic charge build-up, which canproduce a spark, when filling anungrounded fuel container:
•Only use an approved fuel container totransfer fuel to your vehicle. Place thecontainer on the ground when filling it.
•Do not fill a fuel container when it isinside your vehicle (including the cargoarea).
•Keep the fuel pump nozzle in contactwith the fuel container when filling it.
•Do not use a device that holds the fuelpump nozzle lever in the fill position.
Adding Fuel From a Portable FuelContainer
WARNINGS
Do not insert the nozzle of a fuelcontainer or an aftermarket funnelinto the fuel filler neck. This maydamage the fuel system filler neck or itsseal and cause fuel to run onto the ground.
Do not try to pry open or push openthe capless fuel system with foreignobjects. This could damage the fuelsystem and its seal and cause injury to youor others.
Do not dispose of fuel in thehousehold refuse or the publicsewage system. Use an authorizedwaste disposal facility.
When refueling the vehicle fuel tank froma fuel container, use the fuel filler funnelincluded with your vehicle. See Fuel FillerFunnel Location (page 130).
Note:Do not use aftermarket funnels asthey may not work with the capless fuelsystem and can damage it.
When refueling the vehicle fuel tank froma fuel container, do the following:
1.Fully open the fuel filler door.
2.Fully insert the fuel filler funnel into thefuel filler inlet.
3.Add fuel to your vehicle from the fuelcontainer.
4.Remove the fuel filler funnel.
5.Fully close the fuel filler door.
6.Clean the fuel filler funnel and place itback in your vehicle or correctly disposeof it.
Note:Extra funnels can be purchased froman authorized dealer if you choose todispose of the funnel.

Refueling Your Vehicle
WARNINGS
When refueling always shut theengine off and never allow sparks oropen flames near the fuel tank fillervalve. Never smoke or use a cell phonewhile refueling. Fuel vapor is extremelyhazardous under certain conditions. Avoidinhaling excess fumes.
The fuel system may be underpressure. If you hear a hissing soundnear the fuel filler inlet, do not refueluntil the sound stops. Otherwise, fuel mayspray out, which could cause seriouspersonal injury.

5.Operate the fuel pump nozzle withinthe area shown.
6.When you finish refueling slightly raisethe fuel pump nozzle and slowlyremove it.
7.Fully close the fuel filler door.
Do not attempt to start the engine if youhave filled the fuel tank with incorrect fuel.Incorrect fuel use could cause damage notcovered by the vehicle Warranty. Have yourvehicle immediately checked.
Refueling System Warning (If Equipped)
If the fuel tank filler valve does not fullyclose, a message may appear in theinformation display.
Message
Check Fuel Fill Inlet
If the message appears, do the following:
1.Stop your vehicle as soon as it is safeto do so and switch the engine off.
2.Shift into park (P) or neutral (N).
3.Apply the parking brake.
4.Fully open the fuel filler door.
5.Check the fuel tank filler valve for anydebris that may be restricting itsmovement.
6.Remove any debris from the fuel tankfiller valve.
7.Fully insert a fuel pump nozzle or thefuel filler funnel provided with yourvehicle into the fuel filler pipe. SeeFuel Filler Funnel Location (page130). This action should dislodge anydebris that may be preventing the fueltank filler valve from fully closing.
8.Remove the fuel pump nozzle or fuelfiller funnel from the fuel filler pipe.
9.Fully close the fuel filler door.
If this action corrects the problem themessage may not immediately reset. If themessage remains and a warning lampilluminates, have your vehicle checked assoon as possible.
FUEL CONSUMPTION
The advertised capacity is the maximumamount of fuel that you can add to the fueltank after running out of fuel. Included inthe advertised capacity is an emptyreserve. The empty reserve is anunspecified amount of fuel that remainsin the fuel tank when the fuel gaugeindicates empty.
Note:The amount of fuel in the emptyreserve varies and should not be relied uponto increase driving range.
Fuel Economy
Your vehicle calculates fuel economyfigures through the trip computer averagefuel function. See Trip Computer (page95).

3.Remove your foot from the brake pedaland press the START/STOP buttonto switch off the ignition.
4.You can either attempt to start theengine by pressing the brake pedal andthe START/STOP button, or switchon the ignition only by pressing theSTART/STOP button withoutpressing the brake pedal. Both waysre-enable the fuel system.
Note: When you try to restart your vehicleafter a fuel shutoff, the vehicle makes surethat various systems are safe to restart.Once your vehicle determines that thesystems are safe, then the vehicle will allowyou to restart.
Note:In the event that your vehicle doesnot restart after your third attempt, contactan authorized dealer.
JUMP STARTING THE VEHICLE
WARNINGS
The gases around the battery canexplode if exposed to flames, sparks,or lit cigarettes. An explosion couldresult in personal injury or vehicle damage.
Batteries contain sulfuric acid whichcan burn skin, eyes and clothing, ifcontacted.
Use only an adequate-sized cablewith insulated clamps.
Preparing Your Vehicle
Note:Do not attempt to push-start yourautomatic transmission vehicle. Automatictransmissions do not have push-startcapability. Attempting to push-start avehicle with an automatic transmission maycause transmission damage.
Note:Use only a 12-volt supply to start yourvehicle.
Note:Do not disconnect the battery of thedisabled vehicle as this could damage thevehicle's electrical system.
Park the booster vehicle close to the hoodof the disabled vehicle, making sure thetwo vehicles do not touch. Turn allaccessories off.
Connecting the Jumper Cables
WARNING
Do not attach the cables to fuel lines,engine rocker covers, the intakemanifold or electrical componentsas grounding points. Stay clear of movingparts. To avoid reverse polarityconnections, make sure that you correctlyidentify the positive (+) and negative (-)terminals on both the disabled and boostervehicles before connecting the cables.Battery positions may vary.
Note:In the illustration, the bottom vehiclerepresents the booster vehicle.

WARNINGS
Do not remove the filler cap whenthe engine is running.
Do not use supplemental engine oiladditives because they are unnecessaryand could lead to engine damage that maynot be covered by the vehicle Warranty.
Only use oils certified for gasoline enginesby the American Petroleum Institute (API).An oil with this trademark symbolconforms to the current engine andemission system protection standards andfuel economy requirements of theInternational Lubricants SpecificationAdvisory Committee (ILSAC).
To top up the engine oil level do thefollowing:
1.Clean the area surrounding the engineoil filler cap before you remove it.
2.Remove the engine oil filler cap. SeeUnder Hood Overview (page 213).Turn it counterclockwise and removeit.
3.Add engine oil that meets Fordspecifications. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 274). SeeCapacities and Specifications (page277). You may have to use a funnel topour the engine oil into the opening.
4.Recheck the oil level.
5.If the oil level is correct, replace thedipstick and make sure it is fully seated.
6.Replace the engine oil filler cap. Turnit clockwise until you feel a strongresistance.
Note: Do not add oil further than themaximum mark. Oil levels above themaximum mark may cause engine damage.
Note:Make sure you install the oil filler capcorrectly.
Note:Soak up any spillage with anabsorbent cloth immediately.
OIL CHANGE INDICATOR
RESET (If Equipped)
Only reset the system after changing theengine oil and oil filter.
Resetting the Oil Life MonitoringSystem
1.Switch the ignition on. Do not start theengine.
2.Fully press the accelerator and brakepedals at the same time.
3.Keep the accelerator and brake pedalsfully pressed.
4.After three seconds, a messageappears confirming that the reset is inprogress.
5.After 25 seconds, a message appearsconfirming that the reset is complete.
6.Release the accelerator and brakepedals.
7.Switch the ignition off.
