A full fill represents the total amount ofenergy you can get from an external charge(plugging your vehicle in). When the fillreaches empty, your vehicle automaticallyenters Hybrid Mode and the large batterygauge will no longer be shown.
An optional small battery gauge is providedfor Hybrid vehicles and for Hybrid Modeonly in Energi vehicles. This can be enabledin the Settings menu under Battery Display.See General Information (page 94). Thefill level, or State of Charge, indicates theamount of energy stored in the highvoltage battery as a percent of total energycapacity. The level increases or decreasesas the battery charges and dischargesduring normal operation.
Regen Display
A circular arrow symbol displays whenenergy is being recaptured through theregenerative braking system. Regen Displaycan be disabled in the Settings menu. SeeGeneral Information (page 94).
Fuel Gauge:
Note:The fuel gauge may vary slightlywhen your vehicle is moving or on a gradient.
Switch the ignition on. The fuel gauge willindicate approximately how much fuel isin the fuel tank. The arrow adjacent to thefuel pump symbol indicates on which sideof your vehicle the fuel filler door is located.
The needle should move toward F whenyou refuel your vehicle. If the needle pointsto E after adding fuel, this indicates yourvehicle needs service soon.
After refueling some variability in needleposition is normal:
•It may take a short time for the needleto reach full after leaving the gasstation. This is normal and dependsupon the slope of pavement at the gasstation.
•The fuel amount dispensed into thetank is a little less or more than thegauge indicated. This is normal anddepends upon the slope of pavementat the gas station.
•If the gas station nozzle shuts offbefore the tank is full, try a differentgas pump nozzle.
•There is a small reserve left in the tankwhen the fuel gauge reaches empty.
Low Fuel Reminder
A low fuel reminder triggers at 50 mi(80 km) to empty.
Variations:
Note:The low fuel reminder can appear atdifferent fuel gauge positions depending onfuel economy conditions. This variation isnormal.

You must complete the refueling processwithin 20 minutes. If 20 minutes elapses,you must press the button on the driverdoor again. Fuel pump nozzle automaticshut off may occur if you do not press thebutton on the driver door.
System Warnings
If the fuel filler door fails to open, aninformation message appears in theinformation display.
Description and ActionMessage
A warning message appearsin the information displaywhen the fuel system failsto depressurize or the fuelfiller door fails to open. Youmay have to use the fuelfiller door manual overridelever.
RefuelError SeeManual
If the information message appears, do thefollowing:
1. Check the fuel filler door for anythingthat may be obstructing its movement,for example ice or snow.
2. Remove any obstruction from the fuelfiller door.
3. Press the button on the driver door toopen the fuel filler door.
4. If the fuel filler door fails to open andthe information message remains inthe information display, use the fuelfiller door manual override lever.
Fuel Filler Door Manual OverrideLever
The manual override lever is in the luggagecompartment on the left-hand side.
Note:The transmission must be in park (P)or neutral (N).
When using the manual override lever dothe following:
1. Switch the ignition on.
2. Pull the manual override lever.
3. Switch the ignition off.
4. Complete the refueling process within20 minutes.
FUEL CONSUMPTION
Note:The amount of usable fuel in theempty reserve varies and should not berelied upon to increase driving range. Whenrefueling your vehicle after the fuel gaugeindicates empty, you might not be able torefuel the full amount of the advertisedcapacity of the fuel tank due to the emptyreserve still present in the tank.
Empty reserve is the amount of fuelremaining in the tank after the fuel gaugeindicates empty. Do not rely on this fuel fordriving. The usable capacity of the fueltank is the amount of fuel that can be putinto the tank after the gauge indicatesempty. The advertised capacity is the totalfuel tank size – it is the combined usablecapacity plus the empty reserve.

Note:Industrial-strength or heavy-dutycleaners in combination with brush agitationto remove brake dust and dirt, could wearaway the clear coat finish over a period time.
Note:Do not use hydrofluoric acid-basedor high caustic-based wheel cleaners, steelwool, fuels or strong household detergents.
Note:If you intend parking your vehicle foran extended period after cleaning thewheels with a wheel cleaner, drive yourvehicle for a few minutes before doing so.This will reduce the risk of increasedcorrosion of the brake discs.
Alloy wheels and wheel covers are coatedwith a clear coat paint finish. To maintaintheir condition we recommend that you:
•Clean the wheels weekly usingMotorcraft Wheel and Tire Cleaner.Apply using manufacturer'sinstructions.
•Use a sponge to remove heavydeposits of dirt and brake dustaccumulation.
•Rinse thoroughly with a strong streamof water when you have completed thecleaning process.
•To remove tar and grease, useMotorcraft Bug and Tar Remover.
VEHICLE STORAGE
If you plan on storing your vehicle for 30days or more, read the followingmaintenance recommendations to makesure your vehicle stays in good operatingcondition.
We engineer and test all motor vehiclesand their components for reliable, regulardriving. Under various conditions,long-term storage may lead to degradedengine performance or failure unless youuse specific precautions to preserve enginecomponents.
General
•Store all vehicles in a dry, ventilatedplace.
•Protect from sunlight, if possible.
•If you store vehicles outside, theyrequire regular maintenance to protectagainst rust and damage.
Body
•Wash your vehicle thoroughly toremove dirt, grease, oil, tar or mud fromexterior surfaces, rear-wheel housingand the underside of front fenders.
•Periodically wash your vehicle if youstore it in exposed locations.
•Touch-up exposed or primed metal toprevent rust.
•Cover chrome and stainless steel partswith a thick coat of auto wax to preventdiscoloration. Re-wax as necessarywhen you wash your vehicle.
•Lubricate all hood, door and luggagecompartment hinges and latches witha light grade oil.
•Cover interior trim to prevent fading.
•Keep all rubber parts free from oil andsolvents.
Engine
•Change the engine oil and filter prior tostorage because used engine oilcontains contaminates which maycause engine damage.
•Start the engine every 15 days for aminimum of 15 minutes. Run at fast idlewith the climate controls set to defrostuntil the engine reaches normaloperating temperature.
