Press and hold for three seconds tolock the vehicle and close thewindows and sunroof (global closing).
Press twice within three seconds toopen the tailgate only.
Locking
Note: On vehicles with enhancedsecurity, the anti-theft alarm systemis deactivated by pressing the unlockbutton on the remote control.Unlocking a front door with a key willnot deactivate this alarm.
Press once to unlock the vehicle. Youcan change this setting (e.g. driverdoor opening only). See Locking andunlocking (page 35).
Press and hold for three seconds tounlock the vehicle and open thewindows and sunroof (globalopening).
Automatic relocking
To prevent the vehicle being leftunlocked inadvertently, centrallocking and the anti-theft alarmsystem will be reactivatedautomatically 45 seconds after thebutton is pressed if the followingoccurs during this period:
•No door is opened.
•The luggage compartment is notopened.
•The ignition is not switched on.

There is a risk of death orserious injury when the airbagdeploys.
Always have the rear row headrestraint raised when a childrestraint is being installed oroccupying the seat, provided doingso does not move the child restraintaway from the vehicle seat.
Note: If the vehicle has beeninvolved in an accident, have the childsafety seat checked by an expert asit might be damaged.
Note: Do not leave childrenunattended in the child safety seat orin the vehicle.
Note: When installing a childseat/restraint with the seat belt,always ensure belts fit without slackor twists.
WARNING
There is a risk of death orserious injury when themanufacturer’s instructions are notfollowed properly or when the childseat/restraint is modified in any way.
Whenever installing a childseat/restraint, always read and followthe manufacturer’s instructions.

Children of height 150 cm or underor aged 12 years or under should besecured in special restraints forchildren, such as baby seats, childsafety seats or booster cushions inthe rear seats.

A choice of ECE approved childrestraints is available at your FordDealer. Please ask for therecommended child seats. Togetherwith the adult seat belt, theserestraints help to provide maximumsecurity for the children.
Child restraints for differentmass groups
The correct restraint to be useddepends on the child’s age andweight:
Baby safety seat
Babies under 13 kg (approximately18 months) are best protected ifproperly restrained in rearward facingbaby safety seats (Group 0+) onthe rear seat.
Child safety seat
Children weighing between 13 and18 kg (approximately nine months tofour years old) should be carriedproperly restrained in child safetyseats (Group I) in the rear seat.

If your Ford vehicle is equippedwith a front passenger airbag,children of height 150 cm or under oraged 12 years and under must onlybe properly restrained in the rear seat– never in the front.

Push down on it until you feel thelocking mechanism engage.
The raised seating position makes itpossible to position the seat beltcorrectly: The shoulder strap shouldcross the centre of the shoulder; thelap strap should fit tightly across thehips, not the stomach.

Proceed in reverse order. Make surethat the locking mechanism engagesproperly.
Vario child safety seat
The Vario child safety seat should beused for children from three and ahalf years up to seven years andweighing between 15 and 25 kg. Itmust be secured with an inertia reelthree-point seat belt. The child safetyseat may be used in any seatingposition in the rear seats including thecentre.
Note: Refer also to the instructionsprovided with the child safety seat.
Once the child is seated on thevehicle seat, put the Vario child safetyseat in front of the child. Secure it asfollows with an inertia reel three-pointbelt:
1.Insert the tongue into the buckleuntil a distinct click is heard.
2.Place the lap strap in the mouldprovided and tighten it.
3.Place the shoulder strap over thelap strap and tighten.

Note: If the vehicle is locked with thekey, this does not activate the alarmsystem (vehicles with 3.0 l Duractec−VE/-ST or 2.5l Duractec−VE engineand enhanced security).
The system is armed as soon as thevehicle is locked and acts as adeterrent to unauthorised personswho attempt to open the doors,bonnet or luggage compartment, orremove the audio system.
Interior sensors
Note: The interior sensors functioncorrectly only if all windows and thesunroof are completely closed. Inaddition to this, the sensors must notbe covered up. The system shouldnot be activated if any persons,animals or other moving objects areinside the vehicle.
Note: Do not activate the interiorsensors if an additional heatingsystem is used, as the alarm couldotherwise be set off.
The interior sensors monitor anymovement within the vehicle.
The interior sensors are activatedtogether with the double lockingsystem.
Automatic arming delay
Up to 20 seconds after activating theanti-theft alarm system, it is stillpossible to open the vehicle againwithout triggering the alarm. Afterthat, the anti-theft alarm system willmonitor all doors, the bonnet and thetailgate, provided that they areclosed.
If a door, the bonnet or the tailgate isclosed later, the system will monitorit after 20 seconds.
Alarm
The alarm sounds for 30 seconds ifan unauthorised person opens adoor, the luggage compartment orthe bonnet, or if the interior sensors(optional) register any movementinside the vehicle.
The hazard warning flashers will flashfor five minutes.
Any attempt to start the engine or toremove the audio system sounds thealarm again.
DISARMING THE ALARM
The anti-theft alarm system can bedeactivated at any time – even whenthe alarm is sounding – by unlockingthe driver’s door with the key or withthe remote control.

Vehicles with 3.0 l Duratec-VE/-ST or 2.5 l Duratec-VEengine
Note: Unlocking a front door with akey will not deactivate this alarm.
On vehicles with enhanced security(certain markets only), the anti-theftalarm system is deactivated bypressing the unlock button on theremote control.
To deactivate with a non-remote key,open the driver’s door with themechanical key. This starts a 12second delay chime before the alarmsounds. During this period the alarmsystem can be deactivated by turningthe key in the ignition to position II.

WARNING
Never adjust the steering wheelwhen the vehicle is moving.
Release the locking lever to adjustthe height of the steering wheel andits distance from the driver.
Return the lever to its original positionto secure the wheel.
See Sitting in the correct position(page 90).
HORN
The horn can also be operated whenthe ignition is off.
AUDIO CONTROL
Select radio, CD or cassette modeon the audio unit.
The following functions can beoperated with the remote control:
Volume
Volume up: Pull the VOL+ switchtowards the steering wheel.

AUTOMATIC CLIMATE
CONTROL
Note: Note: The automatic climatecontrol system can be operated viathe navigation system touchsceen.See separate handbook.
The temperature, amount anddistribution of the air flow arecontrolled automatically and adjustedaccording to the driving and weatherconditions. The recommendedsystem settings for all seasons are22 °C and AUTO mode (the airconditioning is switched on). Theindividual settings can be adjusted asnecessary. Avoid adjusting thesettings when the vehicle interior isextremely hot or cold. The automaticclimate control system adjusts to thecurrent circumstances automatically.For the system to function properly,the side and centre vents should befully open.
Pressing the AUTO button onceswitches on the AUTO mode.

The temperature can be set between16 °C and 28 °C in steps of 0.5 °Cusing the buttons. In position LO(below 16 °C) the system will switchto permanent cooling, in HI (above28 °C) to permanent heating, and notregulate a stable temperature.
