The Safety Canopy deploys duringsignificant side crashes or when a certainlikelihood of a rollover event is detectedby the rollover sensor. The Safety Canopyis mounted to the roof side rail sheet metal,behind the headliner, above each row ofseats.
In certain sideways crashes or rolloverevents, the Safety Canopy activates,regardless of which seats are occupied.The Safety Canopy is designed to inflatebetween the side window area andoccupants to further enhance protectionprovided in side impact crashes androllover events.
The system consists of:
•Safety Canopy curtain airbags abovethe trim panels over the front and rearside windows. They are identified by alabel or wording on the headliner orroof pillar trim.
•A flexible headliner which opens abovethe side doors to allow air curtaindeployment
•Crash sensors and monitoring systemwith a readiness indicator. See CrashSensors and Airbag Indicator (page63).
Properly restrain children 12 years old andunder in the rear seats. The Safety Canopyairbags will not interfere with childrenrestrained using a properly installed childor booster seat because it is designed toinflate downward from the headliner abovethe doors along the side window opening.
AIRBAG PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Airbags do not inflateslowly or gently, and the risk of injuryfrom a deploying airbag is the greatestclose to the trim covering the airbagmodule.
WARNING: All occupants of yourvehicle, including the driver, shouldalways properly wear their seatbelts,even when an airbag supplementalrestraint system is provided. Failure toproperly wear your seatbelt couldseriously increase the risk of injury ordeath.
WARNING: Properly securechildren 12 years old and under in a rearseating position whenever possible. Ifyou are unable to properly secure allchildren in a rear seating position,properly secure the largest child on thefront seat. If you must use a forwardfacing child restraint on the front seat,move the seat as far back as possible.Failure to follow these instructions couldresult in personal injury or death.
WARNING: Do not place your armson the airbag cover or through thesteering wheel. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injury.

1.All the doors are closed and yourvehicle is moving at a speed greaterthan 12 mph (20 km/h).
2.Your vehicle comes to a stop.
3.You open the driver door within 10minutes of switching the ignition off orto the accessory position.
Note:If you open the driver door after 10minutes, Autounlock does not unlock allother doors.
AUTOLOCK
WHAT IS AUTOLOCK
Autolock is a locking feature that locksyour vehicle doors when you start driving.
AUTOLOCK REQUIREMENTS
Autolock locks all the doors when all of thefollowing occur:
•All doors are closed.
•The vehicle is on.
•Your vehicle reaches a speed greaterthan 12 mph (20 km/h).
MISLOCK
WHAT IS MISLOCK
Mislock is a locking feature that warns youif your vehicle has not locked.
MISLOCK LIMITATIONS
When you press the lock button once, thedirection indicators do not flash if any dooror the liftgate or hood is open.
1.If any door or the liftgate is open.
2.The hood is open.
SWITCHING MISLOCK ON ANDOFF

PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT
SYSTEM
WHAT IS THE PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM
The passive anti-theft system preventssomeone from starting the vehicle with anincorrectly coded key.
Note:Do not leave a duplicate coded keyin your vehicle. Always take the keys andlock all the doors when leaving your vehicle.
HOW DOES THE PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM WORK
The passive anti-theft system arms whenyou switch the ignition off.
It disarms when the ignition is switched onwith a correctly coded key.
Note:The system is not compatible withnon-Ford aftermarket remote start systems.
Note:Do not leave a duplicate coded keyin your vehicle. Always take the keys andlock all doors when leaving your vehicle.
ANTI-THEFT ALARM SYSTEM
WHAT IS THE ANTI-THEFT ALARMSYSTEM
The anti-theft alarm system warns you ofan unauthorized entry to your vehicle.
HOW DOES THE ANTI-THEFTALARM SYSTEM WORK
When armed, the anti-theft alarm istriggered in any of the following ways:
•If someone opens a door, the liftgateor the hood without a correctly codedkey or remote control.
•If you turn the power on without acorrectly coded key.
•If the interior sensors detect movementinside your vehicle.
•If the inclination sensors detect anattempt to raise your vehicle.
•If someone disconnects the vehiclebattery or the battery backup alarm.
If the anti-theft alarm is triggered, thealarm horn sounds for 30 seconds and thedirection indicators flash for 5 minutes.
Any further attempts to carry out one ofthe above sounds the alarm again.
WHAT ARE THE INTERIORSENSORS
The interior sensors detect movementinside your vehicle.
The interior sensors are in the overheadconsole.
Note:Do not cover the interior sensors.
Note:If you set the cabin comfort level foryour departure time with the alarm armed,the interior sensors deactivate for theduration of the cabin preconditioning toavoid a false alarm.
WHAT ARE THE INCLINATIONSENSORS
The inclination sensor is designed to detectan attempt to raise your vehicle, forexample to remove a wheel or to tow itaway.

WHAT IS REMOTE START
The system allows you to remotely startyour vehicle and to adjust the interiortemperature according to the settings thatyou chose.
Note:If your vehicle is plugged in during theremote start operation, it will draw powerfrom the power source and not the vehicle'sbattery.
REMOTE START
PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Do not keep electricaldevices plugged in the power pointwhenever the device is not in use. Powerpoints power up during remote start.
REMOTE START LIMITATIONS
Remote start does not work under thefollowing conditions:
•The alarm horn is sounding.
•The hood is open.
•The vehicle is not in park (P).
•The vehicle is on.
•Remote start has been disabled in thetouchscreen.
•The high voltage or 12 volt battery isbelow the minimum operating voltage.
Note:To use remote start with the FordPass, enable the modem. See ConnectingFordPass to the Modem (page 372). To useremote start with Phone as a Key, enablethe modem and set up Phone As A Key. SeeProgramming Your Phone (page 72).
ENABLING REMOTE START
1.
Press the button on thetouchscreen.
2.Press Vehicle.
3.Press Remote Start Setup.
4.Switch Remote Start on or off.
Note:To remote start with FordPass orPhone as a Key, make sure that the modemis enabled and Phone as a Key is setup. SeeEnabling and Disabling the Modem (page372). See Programming Your Phone (page72).
REMOTELY STARTING AND
STOPPING THE VEHICLE
Remotely Starting the Vehicle
Using your FordPass app, press and holdthe start button.
Note:You can also use the phone as a keyto start the vehicle.
•The direction indicators flash twice.
•The parking lamps turn on when thevehicle is running.
•The horn sounds if the system fails tostart.
•All other vehicle systems remain offwhen you have remotely started thevehicle.
•The vehicle remains secured when youhave remotely started the vehicle. Avalid key must be inside your vehicle toswitch the vehicle on and drive yourvehicle.
Remotely Stopping the Vehicle
Using your FordPass app, press the remotestop button.

3.Press the center right-hand edge of thecharge port door to close.
Charge Coupler Manual Release
If your vehicle does not unlock the chargecoupler, you can manually release it.
Releasing the charge coupler:
1.Switch off your vehicle.
2.Open the hood.
3.Remove the inner luggagecompartment shields and locate thelow voltage service disconnect. SeeInstalling and Removing theLuggage Compartment Cover (page297).
4.Move the low voltage servicedisconnect to the off position.
5.Locate the manual release mechanism.
6.Between the gap of the hood andwindshield, access the manual releasemechanism and pull the pull ring firmly,perpendicularly towards the center ofyour vehicle. Once pulled, make sureyou do not tangle the pull ring cord asit resets on the next charge session.
7.Remove the charge coupler from thecharge port.
8.Close the low voltage servicedisconnect.
9.Reinstall the inner luggagecompartment shields. See Installingand Removing the LuggageCompartment Cover (page 297).
10.Close the hood.
Note:The next time you plug in to chargeyour vehicle, the locking mechanismre-engages and the pull ring resets.

SWITCHING THE HAZARD
FLASHERS ON AND OFF
The hazard flashers operate with thepower on or off. The battery loses chargeand may have insufficient power to restartyour vehicle.
The hazard flasher button is onthe center console. Press thebutton to turn on the hazardflashers if your vehicle is creating a safetyhazard for other road users.
When you switch the hazard flashers on,all front and rear direction indicators flash.
Press the button again to switch them off.
JUMP STARTING THE VEHICLE
JUMP STARTING PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Connect batteries withonly the same nominal voltage.
WARNING: Use only adequatelysized cables with insulated clamps.
Note:This procedure is only for the 12 voltunder hood battery.
Note:Your vehicle has a 12 volt battery thatis easily accessible under the hood. The 12volt battery controls the switches andcontacts that engage the high voltagebattery. Do not jump start the high voltagebattery using a standard 12 volt battery. Towyour vehicle to an authorized dealer if thehigh voltage battery does not accept aregular charge.
Note:Do not attempt to push start yourvehicle. You could cause transmissiondamage.
Note:Do not disconnect the 12 volt batteryfrom your vehicle electrical system.
PREPARING THE VEHICLE
Opening the Front LuggageCompartment With No VehiclePower
If the vehicle has no power, you will beunable to open the front luggagecompartment. To open the front luggagecompartment follow the steps below:
1.Use an external power supply such asa 12 volt jump box.
2.Remove the cover at the front of yourvehicle below the headlight. Pressfirmly on the top right of the coversedge, then pull the raised section onthe bottom left toward you.

6.Turn the fuse box over and open thelid.
