This Quick Reference Guide is not intended to replace your vehicle’s Owner’s Guide,
which contains more detailed information concerning the features of your vehicle and
important safety warnings to help reduce the risk of injury to you and your occupants.
Always read your entire Owner’s Guide carefully when first learning about your vehi
cle and consult the appropriate section when questions arise.

Fan Speed Control– Rotate the
knob to adjust the volume of air circulated in the vehicle.
Temperature Control – Rotate the
knob to adjust the temperature of theairflow inside the vehicle.
A/C
(if equipped)– Uses outside air to
cool the vehicle. Airflow will be from
the instrument panel registers. The airconditioning will only function if theoutside temperature is about 6°C
(43°F) or higher.
Panel– Distributes outside air
through the instrument panel
registers. The air will not be cooledbelow the outside temperaturebecause the air conditioning does not operate in this mode.
Panel and Floor – Distributes out
side air through the instrument panel registers and the floor ducts. Heatingand air conditioning capabilities areprovided in this mode. Floor – Distributes outside air through
the floor ducts. The air will not becooled below the outside temperaturebecause the air conditioning does notoperate in this mode.
Floor and Defrost– Distributes out
side air through the windshielddefroster ducts and the floor ducts.Heating and air conditioning capabilities areprovided in this mode.
Defrost – Distributes outside air
through the windshield defroster ducts.It can be used to clear ice or fog fromthe windshield.
Max A/C
(if equipped)–Max A/C is the
best way to cool off fastbecause it
uses recirculated air and less power to
quickly cool the vehicle. MAX A/C isnoisier than A/C, but more economical
and efficient. This mode can also be
used to prevent undesirable odors
from entering the vehicle. The air conditioning will only function if the
outside temperature is about 6°C (43°F)or higher.
Volume/Power Control – Press the
control to turn the audio system on
or off. Turn the control to raise orlower the volume.
AM/FM Select– In radio mode,
press to select AM or FM frequencybands. In tape and CD modes, pressto stop play and begin radio play.
Seek Function – In radio mode,
press to find the next listenable station up or down the band. In tapemode, press to move to the next/previous selection on the tape. In CD mode, press to select thenext/previous track on the disc.
Tune Adjust– In radio mode, press
to move to the next frequency up or down the band.
Scan Function – In radio mode,
press to hear a sampling of all listenable stations. In tape and CD modes, press to hear a brief sampling of all selections.
Tape Direction Select – Press to
play the alternative side of the tape.Tape/CD Select– To begin tape
play while in radio or CD mode,press the tape control. To begin
CD play, press the CD control.
Autoset Memory Preset –
Select AM, FM1, or FM2 band, then press AUTO to activate autoset
memory preset, which allows you
to set strong radio stations without
losing your original manually set pre
set stations. Press again to deactivate autoset.
Setting the Clock– Press and
hold CLK and then press SEEK to
set the hour. Press and hold CLKand then press TUNE to set the
minute.
Select– Press to adjust sound
output and distribution after selecting BASS, TREB, BAL
or FADE.
Setting Memory Preset Stations
– Select AM, FM1 or FM2 band,then select a station. Next, pressand hold a numbered control untilthe sound returns.AM/FM Select– In radio mode,
press to select AM or FM frequency
bands. In CD mode, press to stop CD
play and begin radio play.
Scan Function – In radio mode,
press to hear a sampling of all listenable stations. In CD mode,press to hear a brief sampling of all selections.
Setting the Clock – Press and hold
CLK and press SEEK to set the hour.
Press and hold CLK and press TUNE to set the minute.
Eject Function– Press to stop and
eject a CD.
Compression Feature–
Compression adjust brings soft andloud CD passages together for a more consistent listening level. Press
COMP to activate and deactivatecompression adjust.

Volume/Power Control – Press the
control to turn the radio system on
or off. Turn the control to raise orlower the volume.
CD Select– Press to begin CD play.
The first track of the disc will begin playing. After that, CD play will begin
where it stopped last.
Seek Function– In radio mode,
press to find the next listenable station up or down the band. In CDmode, press to move to the next/previous track on the current disc.
Tune Adjust – In radio mode, press
to the next frequency up or down the band. If your vehicle is equipped
with a CD changer, press this controlto select the next/previous disc in the changer.

2003 MODELRANGER QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE
Fuel Tank Capacity – Regularcab vehicles with a short wheel base have a 16.5gallon tank, while
regularcab vehicles with a long wheel base have a 20gallon tank. The fuel tank of SuperCab
vehicles can accommodate 19.5 gallons of gasoline. All Rangers are designed to use "Regular"unleaded gasoline with pump (R+M)/2 octane rating of 87 for optimum performance. Flex fuel 3.0Lengines are capable of using up to an 85% ethanol blend in any combination with "Regular"
unleaded gasoline. The use of gasoline with lower octane ratings may degrade performance.
Tire Pressure– Your tire pressure is properly set at the dealership according to the recommended
specifications found on the Certification Label located on the front door latch pillar on the driver’s side.
Proper tire pressure is very important for a smooth and safe ride.Please check your tire
pressure during routine maintenance and seasonal changes.
Fuses– If electrical components in the vehicle are not working, a fuse may have blown.
For more information about changing a fuse, please consult your Owner’s Guide.
Fuel Pump ShutOff Switch – After a collision, if the engine cranks but does not start, the fuel pump
shutoff switch may have to be reset. The switch is located in the passenger’s foot well, by the
kick panel. For complete details on resetting your fuel pump shutoff switch, please consult your
Owner’s Guide.
Changing the Tires– If you get a flat tire while driving, do not apply the brake heavily. Instead,
gradually decrease your speed. Hold the steering wheel firmly and slowly move to a safe place on the side of the road. Your vehicle is equipped with a spare tire. Some spare tires are for limited
service use only. Limited service spare tires are labeled as such.

Roadside Emergencies– To fully assist if you should have a vehicle concern, Ford offers a
complimentary roadside assistance program. This program is separate from the New Vehicle
Limited Warranty. The service is available 24 hours, seven days a week for the Basic Warranty period
(Canada) or New Vehicle Limited Warranty period (U.S.) of three years or 60,000 km (36,000 miles).

This electrical outlet should be used in place
of the cigarette lighter for optional electricalaccessories. Do not hang any type of accessory or accessory bracket from the plug.Improper use of the power outlet may cause

Foglamp Control
(if equipped)
Press to activate the foglamps
during headlamp operation.
The foglamp indicator light will
illuminate. Press the control again to
deactivate the foglamps. The foglamps will not operate when the high beams are activated.

Passenger Air Bag
ON/OFF Switch
To turn the passenger air
bag off, insert the ignition
key, turn the switch to theOFF position and hold in
the OFF position while
removing the key. The OFF light will illuminatemomentarily to indicate the deactivation of thepassenger air bag when the ignition is turnedto ON.
To turn the passenger air bag back on, insert
the ignition key and turn the switch to the ON position. When the ignition is turned to ON,the OFF light will briefly illuminate to indicatethat the passenger air bag is operational.
The passenger air bag should always be ON,
unless the passenger meets the deactivationcriteria set forth by the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration. Please consultyour Owner’s Guide before deactivating the
passenger air bag on/off switch.

In 2WD, power is supplied to the rear
axle only. In 4X4 High, power is supplied toboth the front and rear axles for increasedtraction. 4X4 Low supplies power to boththe front and rear axles, but at low speeds.
To shift from 2WD into 4X4 High, turn the
control to the 4X4 High position as long as
the rear wheels are NOT slipping. To shift
from 4X4 High back into 2WD, turn the control to the 2WD position at any forward speed.
To shift from 2WD into 4X4 Low, 4X4 Low
back into 2WD, or to shift between 4X4High and 4X4 Low: Bring the vehicle to astop, and then depress the brake. Place the gearshift in N (Neutral) or depress theclutch, and then turn the control to thedesired position.
Speed Control
(if
equipped)
To operate, the speed control
must be ON and the vehicle’s
speed must be at or above
48 km/h (30 mph). To set a
speed, press SET ACC. To set a
higher speed, press SET ACC
again. To set a lower speed, press
COAST. Pressing RSM will return to
a previously
set speed. To turn the speed
control off, press the OFF button
or turn off the vehicle’s ignition, or depress
the brake pedal to disen
gage.
Hood Release
Inside the vehicle, pull the
hood release handle located
under the bottom of the instrument panel near the steering column.Next, release the auxiliary latch locatedunder the front center of the hood. Lift thehood and secure it with the prop rod.Tilt Steering Wheel Lever
(if
equipped)
The tilt steering wheel lever is located to
the left of the steering column underneaththe turn signal. Pull the lever toward you tomove the steering wheel up or down. Holdthe control while adjusting the wheel to thedesired position, then release the control tolock the steering wheel in position.
Warning:Never adjust the steering wheel
when the vehicle is moving.
Turn
Signal and
Wiper/Washer Control
Rotate the windshield wiper control to the
desired interval, low or highspeed position. When in the intermittent position, rotate the controlupward for fast intervals and downward for slow intervals. Push the control on theend of the stalk briefly for a single wipe (no wash). Push and hold for three wipeswith a wash. Push and hold for a longerwash cycle (up to ten seconds).
For extended wiper blade
quality, occasional cleaning of thewiper
blades is required.
Headlamp and
Panel Dimmer Control
Rotate clockwise to the
first position to turn on the parking
lamps. Rotate to the second posi
tion to also turn on the headlamps.
Use the instrument panel dimmer control,
which is located to the right of the headlamp control, to adjust the brightness of the instrument panel during headlamp and parking lamp operation. Rotate up to brighten and
Remote Entry System (if equipped)
UNLOCK– Press
this control once
to unlock the
driver’s door, and
twice to unlock all
of the doors. The
interior lamps will
then illuminate.
LOCK– Press this control once to
lock all of the doors. Pressing the
control a second time will chirp
the horn and flash the lights to con
firm that all doors are closed and
locked.
ALARM – Press this control to
activate the alarm. Press the
control again to deactivate. The
alarm will only operate when the
ignition is in the LOCK position.
The interior lights will turn on when the
remote is used to unlock the doors or sound
the personal alarm. The interior lights will
turn off if the ignition switch is turned
to the RUN or ACC position, or after 25 sec
onds of illumination. The dome lamp control
(if equipped) must not be set to
the OFF position for the illuminated entry
system to operate.
The optional power door lock disable
feature helps protect your vehicle from
unauthorized entry. Please refer to your
Owner’s Guide for complete details on
activating/deactivating the power door
lock disable feature.
Rear Doors(if equipped)
Make sure your rear doors are
properly latched. The rear doors
of the Ranger four door must be
securely closed before closing the
front doors.
Door Controls
Power Side View Mirrors(if equipped) –
Move the selector control to the left to
adjust the left mirror, or to the right toadjust the right mirror. Next, move the
mirror control in the direction you wish to
tilt the mirror. Return the selector controlto the center position to lock the mirrorsin place.
One Touch Down
(if equipped)– This
feature allows you to fully open the
driver’s window when you press AUTOcompletely down and then release
quickly. Depress again to stop window operation.
Power Windows
(if equipped)– Press
the top portion of the rocker switch to
close the window. Press the bottomportion to open.
Power Door Locks
(if equipped)– Press
the top of the control to unlock all of thedoors and the bottom to lock all of thedoors. The optional power door lock
disable feature helps protect your vehi
cle from unauthorized entry. Please
refer to your Owner’s Guide for complete details on activating/deactivating this feature.

Check Engine Lamp
Illuminates briefly to ensure the
system is functional. If the light
turns solid or blinks after the
engine is started, one of the
engine’s emission control systems
may be malfunctioning. Drive your vehicle in a moderate fashion (avoiding heavy acceleration and deceleration) and have your vehicle serviced at the first
available opportunity.
Always Tightly Secure Your Fuel CapTurn the fuel cap to the right 1/8 turn until it
clicks. If your "CHECK FUEL CAP" light onthe instrument panel illuminates, remove andretighten the fuel cap. It may take up to fivestarts to reset the light.
ABS Warning Lamp
Illuminates momentarily when
the ignition is turned to the
ONorSTARTposition. In an emergency,
apply continuous force on the
brake to prevent wheel lock when
braking on slippery surfaces –
do not pump
your brakes.Any pulsation or noise you
may feel or hear is normal.
Hazard Flasher Control
The hazard flasher control is located on
the top of the steering column. Press to activate all hazard flashers simultaneously in an emergency to warn traffic of vehicle
breakdown, approaching danger, etc.
Press the control again to turn the flashers off.
Gearshift/Overdrive Control
(if
equipped)
Overdrive is the normal drive position for the
best fuel economy. Only deactivate (O/DOFF) overdrive when: driving with a heavyload, towing a trailer up or down steep hills,or when additional engine braking is desired.
To deactivate, press the transmission control
switch on the end of the gearshift lever.
