4.Partially lower the tailgate. Carefullyfeed the tailgate harness up throughthe gap between the pickup box andthe bumper and place it out of the wayunder the pickup box.
5.Lower the tailgate.
6.Use a screwdriver to gently pry thespring clip on each connector past thehead of the support screw. Disconnectthe cable.
7.Disconnect the other cable.
8.Lift the tailgate to 45 degrees from thehorizontal position.
9.Lift the right-hand side off its hinge.
10.Lift the tailgate to 80 degrees fromthe horizontal position.
11.Remove the tailgate from theleft-hand side hinge by sliding it tothe right.
12.Install the tailgate in reverse order.
TAILGATE STEP
ACCESSING THE TAILGATE STEP
1.Lower the tailgate.
2.Push the button in the center of thestep molding. The step pops outslightly.
3.Pull the step out fully. Lower the stepto its lowest position.
4.Pull the yellow handle stop backwardout of the tailgate until it fully extends.
5.To lock the handle in place, rotate thehandle up from the horizontal to thevertical position until you hear a click.
Note:Do not tow with the step or grabhandle.
Replace the slip resistance tape or grabhandle molding if it appears as worn ordamaged.
To reduce the risk of falling:
•Only operate the step when yourvehicle is on a level surface.
•Only operate the step in areas withsufficient lighting.

•Make sure you use the grab handlewhen climbing on the step.
•Do not use the step with bare feet.

STOWING THE TAILGATE STEP
1.Press the yellow button on the handleto lower and then press the yellowlever at the bottom of the handle tounlock. Rotate the handle down fromthe vertical to the horizontal positionand push it into the tailgate.
2.Rotate the step up until it is horizontal,then push it back into the tailgate untilthe step is secure.
Note:Make sure to close and fully latch thestep before moving your vehicle. Do notdrive with the step or grab handle open.
Note:The power tailgate cannot close ifthe step is open. A warning messageappears and a tone sounds. After stowingthe step the power close function isrestored.

TAILGATE PRECAUTIONS

OPENING THE TAILGATE
OPENING THE TAILGATE FROMINSIDE YOUR VEHICLE
The vehicle must be in park (P) to operatethe power tailgate.
Press the button on theinstrument panel.
Note:A tone sounds while the tailgateopens.
Note:The tailgate stops and reverses if itdetects an obstruction when opening.
Note:An alert sounds if the electronictailgate is in manual mode.
Note:A pop-up message appears on thetouchscreen if the tailgate is in manualmode asking if you want to change back topower mode.
OPENING THE TAILGATE FROMOUTSIDE YOUR VEHICLE
1.Unlock the vehicle with the remotecontrol, power door unlock control oryour phone as a key device.
Note:If an authorized device is within 3 ft(1 m) of the tailgate, the tailgate unlockswhen you press the tailgate release button.
2.Press the button on the middle of thetailgate.

You can close the power tailgate by:
•Pressing the tailgate button on yourremote control twice within threeseconds.
•Pressing the button on the tailgateonce.

Lift-to-Close
To close the tailgate automatically usinglift-to-close, lift the tailgate approximately4 in (10 cm) and hold it for a few seconds.
Note:If the tailgate position is more thanhalfway open, it may not closeautomatically.
Manual Close
You can close the tailgate manually whenyou lift the tailgate in a continuous motion.
If you stop the tailgate motion, thelift-to-close feature engages and powercloses the tailgate.
Putting the Tailgate in Manual Mode
You can put the tailgate in manual modethrough the vehicle settings in yourtouchscreen.
Note:In manual mode, the tailgate onlyopens by the tailgate release button on thetailgate and messaging is reduced.
Note:A pop-up message appears on thetouchscreen if you press the tailgate buttonon the instrument panel when the tailgateis in Manual mode.

Press the remote control buttontwice within three seconds.
REMOVING AND INSTALLING
THE TAILGATE
WARNING: Always properly securecargo to prevent shifting cargo or cargofalling from the vehicle. Failure to do socould result in compromised vehiclestability and serious personal injury tovehicle occupants or others.
WARNING: The tailgate is heavy.Removal of the tailgate requires twoadults. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in personal injury or propertydamage.
1.Put the tailgate into manual mode byaccessing the vehicle settings using thetouchscreen.
2.Open the tailgate.
3.Disconnect the power door locks in-lineconnector located under the pickupbox on the right-hand side of thevehicle near the spare tire.
4.Install the protective cap on the in-lineconnector portion that remains underthe pickup box.
Note: The protective cap is in the glovecompartment.

12.Lift the tailgate to 80 degrees fromthe horizontal position.
13.Remove the tailgate from theleft-hand side hinge by sliding it tothe right.
14.Install the tailgate in reverse order.
Note:After reinstalling the tailgate it isimportant to reinstall the retaining screw tothe recommended torque,7 lb.ft (10 Nm).Failure to install the retaining screw cancause the tailgate to detach.

1.Obtain the tailgate removal kit fromthe glove compartment.
2.Locate and disconnect the frameconnections. They are on the left-handside of the vehicle.
Note:Your vehicle may have up to threeframe connections.
3.Install the protective caps on the in-lineconnector portion that remains underthe pickup box.
Note: If you do not install the caps on theconnectors, some features may not operateas intended.
