•Do not store biodiesel fuel in the fueltank for more than 1 month.
•Consider changing brands or reducingbiodiesel content if you have coldtemperature fuel gelling issues or afrequently appearing LOW FUELPRESSURE message.
Use of biodiesel in concentrations greaterthan 20% can cause damage to yourvehicle, including engine and/or exhaustafter-treatment hardware (exhaustcatalyst and particulate filter) failures.Concentrations greater than 20% can alsocause fuel filter restrictions that couldresult in a lack of power or damage to fuelsystem components, including fuel pumpand fuel injector failures.
We recommend SAE 5W-40 oil for fuelswith greater than 5% biodiesel (B5). Formore information about oil changeintervals and other maintenance whenoperating on biodiesel. See SpecialOperating Conditions ScheduledMaintenance (page 603).
Look for a label on the fuel pump toconfirm the amount of biodiesel containedin diesel fuel. Ask the service stationattendant to confirm the biodiesel contentof diesel fuel, if you do not see a label onthe fuel pump.
If you plan to park or store your vehicle formore than 1 month, then you should emptyyour vehicle fuel tank of biodiesel fuel. Youshould fill the tank with a purepetroleum-based diesel fuel and run yourvehicle for a minimum of 30 minutes.
Note:Degraded or oxidized biodiesel candamage fuel system seals and plastics andcorrode steel parts.
During cold weather, if you have problemsoperating on biodiesel, you may need touse diesel fuel with lower biodieselcontent, try another brand or discontinuethe use of biodiesel.
Diesel Fuel Additives
It should not be necessary to add anyaftermarket additives to your fuel if youuse a high-quality diesel fuel that conformsto ASTM industry specifications.Aftermarket additives can damage the fuelinjector system or engine.
Use Motorcraft® cetane booster or anequivalent cetane booster additive if yoususpect fuel has low cetane. UseMotorcraft® anti-gel and performanceimprover or an equivalent additive if thereis fuel gelling.
Do not use alcohol-based additives toimprove cetane quality, to prevent fuelgelling or any other use. The use of alcoholadditives could result in damage to the fuelinjectors and system.
Your Warranty may not cover repairsneeded to correct the effects of using anaftermarket product that does not meetour specifications in your fuel.

FIFTH-WHEEL TRAILER HITCH
Your vehicle has a fifth-wheel preppackage. This package enables yourvehicle to accept certain fifth-wheel trailerhitches and gooseneck ball hitches. Thefifth-wheel trailer hitch attaches to the fourmounting pads in the pick-up bed. A 7-pintrailer wiring connector could be in the bedas well. The gooseneck ball hitch is aseparate mounting pad from thefifth-wheel hitch in the center of the bed.
Shorter pick-up boxes provide lessclearance between the cab and thefifth-wheel and gooseneck trailercompared to longer box pick-ups. Whenselecting a trailer and tow vehicle, it iscritical to check that this combinationprovides clearance between the front ofthe trailer and tow vehicle for turns up to90°. Failure to follow this recommendationcould result in the trailer contacting thecab of the tow vehicle during tight turnsthat are typical during low-speed parkingand turning maneuvers. This contact couldresult in damage to the trailer and towvehicle.
Note:Contact an authorized dealer topurchase gooseneck and fifth-wheel hitchesthat are compatible with your vehicle.
Note:The mounting pads in the bed arespecifically designed for certain fifth-wheeltrailer hitches and gooseneck ball hitches.Do not use these mounting pads for otherpurposes.
CONNECTING A TRAILER
Recognizing a Trailer
1.Attach the trailer and wiring connectorto your vehicle.
2.Switch on your vehicle.
3.Set up a profile for the trailer using theSYNC screen.
Note:If your vehicle does not recognize thetrailer, press and hold the brake pedal for afew seconds.
Note:Trailer profiles store trailer types,dimensions, preferences, trailer specificmileage and fuel economy.
Note:Disabling the trailer detectionnotification makes the default trailer profileactive when a connection is detected.
Note:Trailer profiles allows you to setupseveral trailer maintenance reminders andmaintenance intervals for multiple trailercomponents by specifying miles or monthsin service.
Note:Trailer maintenance reminder isdesigned to be an aid and does not relieveyou of your responsibility to follow the trailermanufacturers recommended maintenanceintervals. You are responsible for inputtingmaintenance intervals consistent with thetrailer manufacturer.

Change the air filter element at the correctservice interval. See ScheduledMaintenance (page 591). Your vehicle maybe equipped with electronic engine air filtermaintenance minder, that providesoptimized service intervals and remindersbased on driving habits and environmentalconditions.
1.Clean any loose dirt or debris aroundthe air filter hosing.
2.Disconnect the mass air flow sensorelectrical connector, if required.
3.Remove the clips (x3) that secure theair filter housing cover. Remove the airfilter housing cover. Disconnect andpull the air intake tube away, asneeded.
4.Remove the air filter element from theair filter housing.
5.Inspect the air filter element for anydamage. Replace the air filter elementif the seal, paper, foam or steel meshhas any holes, cut or gouges.
6.Inspect the air filter housing for dirt,dust, snow, ice or debris in the aircleaner tray.
7.To install, reverse the removalprocedure. You can oscillate thehousing cover slightly left to right toassist with installation as needed, untilpositioned such that all three clips canbe re-engaged.
After operating your vehicle during heavysnowfall or extreme rain, do the following:
•Snow: At the earliest opportunity, openthe hood, clear any snow and ice fromthe air filter housing inlet.
•Extreme rain: The air filter elementdries out after approximately 15–30minutes of driving at highway speeds.
Note:Do not remove the foam block fromthe air cleaner tray.
RESETTING THE AIR FILTERREMINDER
1.Press the menu button on the steeringwheel to enter the instrument clusterdisplay main menu.
2.Select Vehicle Maintenance.
3.Select Engine Air Filter.
4.Press and hold the OK button until thesystem reset confirmation appears.
Note:The system displays 100% afterbeing successfully reset.

It is very important to use predilutedcoolant approved to the correctspecification in order to avoid plugging thesmall passageways in the engine coolingsystem. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 520). Do not mixdifferent colors or types of coolant in yourvehicle. Mixing of engine coolants or usingan incorrect coolant may harm the engineor cooling system components and maynot be covered by the vehicle Warranty.
Note:If prediluted coolant is not available,use the approved concentrated coolantdiluting it to 50/50 with deionised ordistilled water. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 520). Using water thathas not been deionised may contribute todeposit formation, corrosion and pluggingof the small cooling system passageways.
Note: Coolants marketed for all makes andmodels may not be approved to ourspecifications and may cause damage tothe cooling system. Resulting componentdamage may not be covered by the vehicleWarranty.
If the coolant level is at or below theminimum mark, add prediluted coolantimmediately.
To top up the coolant level do thefollowing:
1.Unscrew the cap slowly. Any pressureescapes as you unscrew the cap.
2.Add prediluted coolant approved tothe correct specification. SeeCapacities and Specifications (page520).
3.Add enough prediluted coolant toreach the correct level.
4.Replace the coolant reservoir cap. Turnthe cap clockwise until it contacts thehard stop.
5.Check the coolant level in the coolantreservoir the next few times you driveyour vehicle. If necessary, add enoughprediluted engine coolant to bring thecoolant level to the correct level.
If you have to add more than 1.1 qt (1 L) ofengine coolant per month, have yourvehicle checked as soon as possible.Operating an engine with a low level ofcoolant can result in engine overheatingand possible engine damage.
In case of emergency, you can add a largeamount of water without engine coolantin order to reach a vehicle service location.
Water alone, without engine coolant, cancause engine damage from corrosion,overheating or freezing.
Do not use the following as a coolantsubstitute:
•Alcohol.
•Methanol.
•Brine.
•Any coolant mixed with alcohol ormethanol antifreeze.
Alcohol and other liquids can cause enginedamage from overheating or freezing.
Do not add extra inhibitors or additives tothe coolant. These can be harmful andcompromise the corrosion protection ofthe coolant.

Changing the coolant is necessary atspecific mileage intervals listed in thescheduled maintenance information. SeeScheduled Maintenance (page 591).

ENGINE OIL CAPACITY AND
SPECIFICATION - 6.7L DIESEL
Use oil that meets the definedspecification and viscosity grade.
If you do not use oil that meets the definedspecification and viscosity grade, it couldresult in:
•Component damage that your vehiclewarranty does not cover.
•Longer engine cranking periods.
•Increased emission levels.
•Reduced vehicle performance.
•Reduced fuel economy.
Engine Oil
We recommend Motorcraft motor oil foryour vehicle. If Motorcraft motor oil is notavailable, use motor oil of therecommended viscosity grade that meetsour specification WSS-M2C171-F1. You canfind the list of approved motor oils atwww.motorcraft.com.
Do not use supplemental engine oiladditives because they are unnecessaryand could lead to engine damage that yourvehicle warranty does not cover.
The use of correct oil viscosities for dieselengines is important for satisfactoryoperation. Determine which oil viscositybest suits the temperature range youexpect to encounter for the next serviceinterval from the SAE Viscosity Gradeschart.
Note:An engine block heater isrecommended at temperatures below -9°F(-23°C).

If your information display resetsprematurely or becomes inoperative, youshould perform the oil change interval atsix months or 5,000 mi (8,000 km) fromyour last oil change. Never exceed one yearor 15,000 mi (24,000 km) between oilchange intervals.
You can drive high performance vehiclesin such a way that may lead to higher oilconsumption including extended time athigh engine speeds, high loads, enginebraking, hard cornering maneuvers, trackand off-road usage. Under theseconditions, oil consumption ofapproximately 1 quart per 500 miles (1 literper 800 km) is possible. Check the engineoil level at every refueling and adjust tomaintain proper levels to avoid enginedamage.

Flushing is aviable way to change fluid for many vehiclesub-systems during scheduledmaintenance. It is critical that systems areflushed only with new fluid that is the sameas that required to fill and operate thesystem or using our approved flushingchemical.
