Master Cylinder/Brake Booster
IRemovaUlnstallation
CAUTION:
. Be care{ul nol to bend or damage the brake lines when
rsmoving the mastsr cYlinder.
. Do not soill brakefluid on the vehicle; it may damage
the paint; if brake fluid does contact the paint, wssh
it off immediatelY with water'
. To prevent spill3, cover the hose ioints with rags or
shop towels.
9. Remove the four booster mountlng nuts
10. Pull the brake booster forward until the clevis is
clear of the bulkhead.
11. Remove the brake booster from the engine com-
panmenr.'12. Install the brake booster and master cylinder in the
reverse order of removal.
CAUTION:
. When connecting the brake lines. make sure
that there is no inte erence between the brake
lines and oth6r Parts.
r Be careful not to bend or damage the brake lines
when installing the master cylinder.
NOTE: lf replacing the master cylinder or brake
booster, check and adiust the pushrod clearance
be{ore installing the master cylinder (see page 19-221'
Fill the master cylinder reservoir, and bleed the
brake svstem (see Page 19-7).
After installation. check the brake pedal height and
brake pedal tree play (see page l9-5) and adjust if
necessary.

Disconnect the brake fluid level switch connectors'
Remove the reservoir cap from the master cylinder'
The brake fluid may be sucked out through the top
of the master cylinder reservoir with a syrlnge.
Disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder'
Remove the master cylinder mounting nuts and
washers.

6. Remove the master cylinder from the brake booster'
7. Disconnect the vacuum hose trom the brake booster'
8. Remove the cotter pin and clevis pin from the clevis'
CAUTION: Do not disconnect the clevb by remov-
ing it from the operating rod of the brako booster' lf
the clevis is loosened, adiust the pushrod length
before installing th€ brake booster (see page 19-221'

Windshield
Removal
CAUTION:
. Put on gloves to plotest your h8nds.
. Use seat covers to avoid damaging any surfaces.
1. To remove the windshield, first remove the:. Rearview mirror (see page 20-25)
. Sunvisors and holders (see page 20-64)
. Front pillar trim (see pages 20-59, 60, 61)
! Windshield wiper arms and cowl cover (see page
20-1131
Peel off the molding, and remove the glass brack-
ers.
NOTE: When molding removal is difficult, cut the
molding with a knife.

3. Pull down the front of the headliner (see page 20-
64).
CAUTION: Take care not to bend the headlinet
excsssively.

4. Apply protective tape along the edge of the dash
board and body as shown. Using an awl, make a
hole through the rubber dam and adhesive from
inside the car. Push the piano wire through the
hole, and wrap each end around a piece of wood-

With a helper on the outside, pull the piano wire
back and forth in a sawing motion, and carefully cut
through the rubber dam and adhesive around the
entire windshield.
CAUTION: Hold the piano wile as close to ihe wind-
shield as possible to prevent damage to the body
and dashboard.

6. Carefully remove the windshield.

4. Glue the upper and lower rubber dams to the insideIace of the quaner glass, as shown, to contain theadhesive during installation.

Install the quarter glass trim on the quarter glass,then glue the upper and lower clips as shown.

6. lf the old quarter glass is to be reinstalled (and theclip on the rear edge is broken off), apply a lightcoat of primer (3I/ C-100, or equivalent), then applybutyl tape to the quarter glass, as shown. and sealthe body hole with piece of urethane tape.
NOTE:
. Be careful not to touch the quaner glass whereadhesive will be applied,. Do not peel the separator offthe butyltape.

11. Pack adhesive into the cartridge without air pockets
to ensure continuous delivery. put the canridge in acaulking gun, and run a bead of adhesive aroundthe edge of the quarter glass as shown.
NOTE:
. lf the old quarter glass is to be reinstalled, peelthe separator off the butyl tape after applying theadhesive.
. Apply the adhesive within 30 minutes after apply_ing the glass primer.

12. Use suction cups to hold the quarter glass over theopening, align the clips, and set it down on the adhe-sive. Lightly push on the quaner glass until its edgesare fully seated on the adhesive all the way around.
NOTE: Do not open or close the doors until theadhesive is drv.
Scrape or wipe the excess adhesive off with a puttyknife or towel.
NOTE: To remove adhesive from a painted surfaceor the quarter glass, wipe with a soft shop toweldampened with alcohol.
Let the adhesive dry for at least one hour, thenspray water over the quarter glass and check forleaks. Mark the leaking areas, let the quarter glass
dry, then seal with sealant.
NOTE: Let the car stand for at least four hours afterquarter glass installation. lf the car has to be usedwithin the first four hours, it must be driven slowly.
Reinstall all remaining removed parts.
NOTE: Advise the customer not to do the followingthings for two to three days:
. Slam the doors with all the windows rolled up.. Twist the body excessively (such as when goingan and out of driveways at an angle or drivingover rough, uneven roads).

8. With a sponge, apply a light coat of body primer tothe original adhesive remaining around the quarter
glass opening flange. Let the body primer dry for atleast l0 minutes.
NOTE:
. Do not apply glass primer to the body, and becareful not to mix up glass and body primer
sponges.
. Never louch the primed surfaces with your hands.. Mask off the rear side trim panel before painting
the flange.

Thoroughly mix the adhesive and hardener togeth-er on a glass or metal plate with a putty knife.
NOTE:
. Clean the plate with a sponge and alcohol beforemixing.
. Follow the instructions that came with the adhe-sive.
Before filling a cartridge, cut the end of the nozzle
as shown.

. Apply the adhesive within 30 minutes after applying the glass primer.

Moonroof
Motor, Drain Tube and Frame Replacement
CAUTION:
. Put on gloves to protecl your hands.
. Be careful not to damage the seats, dashboard and other interior trim.
'1. Remove the headliner {see page 20-64).
2. Disconnect the motor connector and glass position switch connector.
NOTE: When removing the motor, detach the connector from the frame, remove the bolts and nuts, then remove the
motor.
3. Remove the glass {see page 20-52).
4. Disconnect the drain tubes, and detach the ceiling light harness.
5. Remove the frame mounting bolts.
NOTE;
. An assistant is helpful when removing the bolts.
. Remove the front bolts last.
6. Detach the rear hooks by moving the frame forward, then remove the frame.

Remove the headliner {see page 20-64).
Using the moonroof wrench, close the glass fully.
NOTE: Check the glass fit to the rool panel.
Using an open-end wrench, loosen the switch plate mounting bolts.
Adjust position of the switch plate (switch cam) as shown.
Check the operation of the glass (from tilt-up position to fully closed position, from the fully open position to the fully
closed position) by operating the moonroof switch.
NOTE: Check the glass height (see page 20-51).SWITCH PLATE

4. Remove the rear roof trim and clips, and remove
the roof trim and socket plug (moonroof model).

4D: Lower the rear pillar trim on both sides
3D: Remove the upper anchor bolts from the front
and rear seat belts (see pages 20-86, 89), then lower
the quarter trim panel on left side.
2D: Remove the upper anchor bolt from the front
seat belt (see page 20-86), then lower the quaner
trim panel on left side.
Lower the headliner.
Carefully remove the headliner through the passen-
ger's door opening (2Dl4D) or hatch opening (3D).
Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
NOTE:
. When inserting the headliner through the open-
ing, be careful not to fold or bend it. Also, be care-
ful not to scratch the bodY.
. Check that both sides of the headliner are
securely attached to the trim.
. When installing the roof trim, install the joint
toward the right side (moonroot model)
