The instrument panel has many
indicators to give you important
inf ormation about your car. If this light comes on when theengine is running, the battery is not
being charged. For complete
inf ormation, see page .
The engine can be severely damaged
if this light f lashes or stays on when
the engine is running. For complete
inf ormation, see page .This indicator lights when you turn
the ignition switch ON (II). If it
comes on at any other time, it
indicates a potential problem with
your f ront airbags or automatic seat
belt tensioners. On vehicles
equipped with side airbag, this light
will also alert you to a potential
problem with your side airbags or
passenger’s side airbag automatic
cutof f system. For complete
inf ormation, see page .
This indicator lights when you turn
the ignition switch ON (II). If it
comes on at any other time, it
indicates that the passenger’s side
airbag has automatically shut off.

reminder to you and your passengers
to protect yourselves by f astening
the seat belts.
If you do not f asten your seat belt,
the light stays on until you do. The
light stays of f if you f asten your seat
belt bef ore turning on the ignition.

Before folding down the seat-back,
move the seat belt out of the way
and put the shoulder part of the
outside seat belt in the clip on each
side.To unlatch either side of the seat-
back, pull up on the release lever,
then fold the seat-back down.
The back of the rear seat folds down
to give you more cargo space. Each
side f olds down separately. With only
half the seat f olded, you can still
carry a passenger in the back seat.

Make sure all items in the cargo area
are secured. Loose items can f ly
f orward and cause injury if you have
to brake hard. See
on page .
To lock the seat-back upright, push
the seat-back firmly against its latch.
Tug on the seat-back to make sure it
is latched.
Do not put any heavy items on the
seat-back when it is folded.
Make sure the seat belts are
positioned in f ront of the rear seat-
back and the seat belt buckles are on
the seat cushion whenever the seat-
back is in its upright position.
The cargo area cover may be re-
moved to give you more cargo room.
To remove the cargo area cover,
disconnect the cables f rom the hatch
by lif ting up each end, then pulling it
outward. Then push up on the
underside of the cargo cover at each
f ront corner to unsnap it f rom the
body.To install the cargo area cover, place
it in its normal position over the
cargo area. Then push down on each
f ront corner to snap it in place. Lif t
up the rear of the cover, then
reconnect the cables to the hatch.

A beverage holder f or the f ront
passenger is located in the center
console. A second beverage holder is
under the driver’s side air vent.
To use the beverage holder under
the air vent, pull on the f ront. Push
the holder all the way in to close it.
Open the glove box by pulling the
handle. Close it with a f irm push.

Make sure all windows, mirrors,
and outside lights are clean and
unobstructed. Remove f rost, snow,
or ice.Check the adjustment of the seat

Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
Check the indicator lights in the
instrument panel.
Start the engine (see page ).
Check the gauges and indicator

Check that any items you may be
carrying with you inside are stored
properly or f astened down
securely.
Visually check the tires. If a tire
looks low, use a gauge to check its
pressure.
Check that the hood and hatch are
f ully closed. Make sure the doors are securely
closed and locked.
Check the adjustment of the
steering wheel (see page ).
Fasten your seat belt. Check that
your passengers have f astened
their seat belts (see page ).
