Operating the Switches Around the Steering Wheel

You cannot take the key out unless the shift lever is
in .
On all models If you open the driver's door when the key is in LOCK or ACCESSORY , a warning buzzer will
sound to remind you to take the key out. If the key won't turn from LOCK
to ACCESSORY , turn the key while moving the steering wheel
left and right. The steering wheel will unlock, allowing the key to turn.
WARNING
Removing the key from the ignition switch locks the steering. If you do this while the vehicle is in motion, you can lose control of the vehicle. Only remove the key from the ignition switch when parked.

Rear Wiper/Washer

The rear wiper and washer can be used when the ignition switch is in ON

The wiper operates intermittently after completing a few sweeps.

Sprays while you rotate the switch to this position.Hold it to activate the wiper and to spray the washer. Once released, it stops operating after a few more sweeps.
Operating in Reverse

When you shift the transmission to
R with the front wiper activated, the rear wiper
operates automatically as follows even if its switch is off.

Wipers and Washers
If the wiper stops operating due to any obstacle such as the build-up of snow, park the vehicle in a safe place. Rotate the wiper switch to OFF, and turn the ignition switch to ACCESSORY
or LOCK ,
then remove the obstacle. The wiper motor is equipped with a breaker that may stop motor operation temporarily to prevent an overload. Wiper operation will return to normal within a few minutes, once the circuit has returned to normal.

Defrosting the Windshield and Windows
Do not set the temperature near the upper or lower limit.When cold air hits the windshield, the outside of the windshield may fog up. If the side windows fog up, adjust the vents so that the air hits the side windows. For your safety, make sure you have a clear view through all the windows before driving.
To Rapidly Defrost or Defog the Windows
After defrosting or defogging the windows, switch over to fresh air mode.If you keep the system in recirculation mode, the windows may fog up from humidity. This impedes visibility.
On automatic transmission (CVT) model
Pressing the button restarts the engine
automatically during the auto idle stop.
On manual transmission model To defog during the auto idle stop, restart the engine as follows.

When Driving
Starting the Engine
1. Make sure the parking brake is applied.

Although it is possible to start the vehicle in
N, it is safer to start it in P.
Manual transmission model
Check that the shift lever is in
2. N. Then
depress the brake pedal with your right foot, and the clutch pedal with your left foot.
The clutch pedal must be fully depressed to start the engine.
Starting the Engine
Keep your foot irmly on the brake pedal when starting the engine. The engine is harder to start in cold weather and in thinner air found at altitudes above 8,000 feet (2,400 meters). When starting the engine in cold weather, turn off all electrical accessories such as the lights, climate control system, and rear defogger in order to reduce battery drain. If the exhaust sounds abnormal or if you can smell exhaust gas inside the vehicle, have your vehicle checked by a dealer. There may be a problem with the engine or exhaust system.

release the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from moving unexpectedly.
Hill Start Assist System

Manual transmission model
Hill start assist feature helps to prevent the vehicle from rolling on inclines as you move your foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator. Depress the clutch pedal, and shift to
1 when facing uphill, or R when facing
downhill, then release the brake pedal. The brakes remain engaged briefly as you release the brake pedal.
Hill Start Assist System
Hill start assist may not prevent the vehicle from rolling downhill on a very steep or slippery slope, and will not operate on small inclines. Hill start assist is not a replacement for the parking brake. Hill start assist will still operate even when VSA ®
is
switched off.

7-Speed Manual Shift Mode
■
Use the paddle shifters to change between first and seventh speeds without removing your hands from the steering wheel. The transmission switches to the 7-speed manual shift mode when you pull a paddle shifter while driving. This mode is useful when engine braking is needed. You can cancel this mode by pressing any of the three driving mode buttons, or pulling the
paddle shifter for a few seconds.
When the Driving Mode is in ECON or NORMAL
■
The shift mode goes into the 7-speed manual shift mode temporarily, and the number is displayed in the shift indicator.The 7-speed manual shift mode is canceled automatically if you drive at constant speed or accelerate, and the number in the shift indicator goes off.The 7-speed manual shift mode is especially useful when reducing the vehicle speed temporarily before making a turn.
When the Driving Mode is in SPORT
■
The shift mode goes into the 7-speed manual shift mode. The
M indicator and the
speed number are displayed in the shift indicator. As the vehicle speed slows down, the transmission automatically shifts down accordingly. When the vehicle comes to a stop, it automatically shifts down into first. If the vehicle speed increases and the engine speed reaches near the tachometer’s red zone, the transmission automatically shifts up.
7-Speed Manual Shift Mode
To improve fuel economy, the transmission may shift up to a higher speed than the seventh under certain circumstances. In this case, the number in the shift indicator remains as "7." In the 7-speed manual shift mode, the transmission
shifts up or down by operating either paddle shifte r
under the following conditions:Shift Up: The engine speed reaches the lowest threshold of the higher speed position.Shift Down: The engine speed reaches the highest threshold of the lower speed position. When the engine speed reaches near the tachometer’s red zone, the transmission shifts up automatically.When the engine speed reaches the lowest threshold of the selected speed position, the transmission shifts down automatically. Operating the paddle shifters on slippery surfaces may cause the tires to lock up. In this case, the 7-speed manual shift mode is canceled and goes back to the normal D driving mode.
