Event Date Recorders
This vehicle is equ ipped with one or more devices commonly ref erred to as event data recorders. These devices record
f ront seat belt use, f ront passenger seat occupancy, airbag deployment data, and the f ailure of any airbag system
component. This data belongs to the vehicle owner and may not be accessed by anyone else except as legally required
or with the permission of the vehicle owner.
Service Diagnostic Recorders
This vehicle is equipped with service-related devices that record inf ormation about powertrain perf ormance. The data
can be used to verif y emissions law requirements and/or help technicians diagnose and solve service problems. It may

You’ll
find many safety
recommendations throughout this
section, and throughout this manual.
Therecommendationsonthispage
are the ones we consider to be the
most important. Children
age 12 and under should
ride properly restrained in a back
seat, not the front seat. Infants and
smallchildrenshouldberestrained
in a child seat. Larger children
should use a booster seat and a lap/
shoulder belt until they can use the
belt properly without a booster seat
(see pages ).
Al cohol and driving don’t mix. Even
one drink can reduce your ability to
respond to changing conditions, and
your reaction time gets worse with every
additional drink. So don’t drink
and drive, and don’t let your friends
drink and drive, either.
Having a tire blowout or a
mech anical failure can be extremely
hazardous. To reduce the possibility
of such problems, check your tire
pressures and condition frequently,
and perform all regularly scheduled
maintenance (see page ).
Excessive
speed is a maj or factor in
crash injuries and deaths. Generally,
the higher the speed, the greater the
risk, but serious injuries can also
occur at lower speeds. Never drive
faster than is safe for current
conditions, regardless of the
maximum speed posted.
A
seat belt is your best protection in
all typ es of collisions. Airbags are
designed to supplement seat belts,
not replace them. So even though
your vehicle is equipped with airbags,
make sure you and your passenger
always wear your seat belts, and
wear them properly (see page ).While airbags can save lives, they
can cause serious or fatal injuries to
occupants who sit too close to them,
or are not properly restrained.
Inf ants, young children, and short
adults are at the greatest risk. Be
sure to f ollow all instructions and
warnings in this manual.

This monitor includes two functions;
the door open indicator and the
tailgate open indicator. This monitor
wo rks with the ignition switch in any
position.
The specific door indicator comes on
in this monitor if any door is not
closed tightly.
Thetailgateindicatorcomeson
whenthetailgateisswungopenorif
it is not closed completely after you
swing it closed. If
the tailgate is swung open or is not
closed tightly, you will hear six beeps
and see the indicator blinking when
you turn the ignition switch to the
ON (II) position. The beeper also
sounds and the indicator blinks when
you move the shift lever out of the
Park or neutral position.
The tailgate open indicator does not
monitor the tailgate when it is
dropped open.
If the driver does not fasten the seat
belt and the tailgate is swung open,
the seat belt reminder alarm will
sound at first, then the tailgate open
reminder beeper will sound.

The
left or right turn signal indicator
blinks when you signal a lane change
or turn. If an indicator does not blink
or blinks rapidly, it usually means
one of the turn signal bulbs is
burned out (see pages and ).
Replace the bulb as soon as possible,
since other drivers cannot see that
you are signaling.
When you press the hazard warning
button, both turn signal indicators
and all turn signals on the outside of
the vehicle f lash.

Push the lever up to lock the
steering wheel in position.
Make sure you have securely
locked the steering wheel in place
by trying to move it up and down.
Make any steering wheel adjustment
bef ore you start driving.
Move the steering wheel so it
points toward your chest, not
toward your f ace. Make sure you
can see the instrument panel
gauges and indicators. Push the lever on the lef t side of
the steering column all the way
down.
Pushthebuttontoturnonthe
hazard warning lights (f our-way
flashers). This causes all four
outside turn signals and both turn
indicators in the instrument panel to
f lash. Use the hazard warning lights
if you need to park in a dangerous
area near heavy traffic, or if your
vehicle is disabled. 3.

Adjusting the steering wheel
position while driving may
cause you to lose control of the
vehicle and be seriously injured
inacrash.
Adjust the steering wheel only
when the vehicle is stopped.

The front passenger’s seat in all
models adjusts manually.
Make all seat adjustm ents before
you start driving.
To adjust the seat forward or
backward, pull up on the bar under
the seat cushion’s front edge. Move
the seat to the desi red position, and
releasethebar.Trytomovetheseat to
make sure it is locked in position.
To change the seat-back angle of the
front seat, pull up the lever on the
outside of the seat bottom.
Once your seat is adjusted correctly,
rock it back and f orth to make sure it
is locked in position.
