If your vehicle has roof-rail airbags and a third row
passenger seat, the airbags are located in the ceiling
above the rear windows for the outboard passenger
positions in the third row.
{CAUTION:
If something is between an occupant and an
airbag, the airbag might not inate properly or it
might force the object into that person causing
severe injury or even death. The path of an
inating airbag must be kept clear. Do not put
anything between an occupant and an airbag,
and do not attach or put anything on the
steering wheel hub or on or near any other
airbag covering.
If your vehicle has roof-rail airbags, never
secure anything to the roof of your vehicle by
routing the rope or tie down through any door
or window opening. If you do, the path of an
inating roof-rail airbag will be blocked. Driver Side shown, Passenger Side similar

The parts of the airbag that come into contact with you
may be warm, but not too hot to touch. There may
be some smoke and dust coming from the vents in the
deated airbags. Airbag ination does not prevent
the driver from seeing out of the windshield or being
able to steer the vehicle, nor does it prevent people from
leaving the vehicle.
{CAUTION:
When an airbag inates, there may be dust in
the air. This dust could cause breathing
problems for people with a history of asthma or
other breathing trouble. To avoid this, everyone
in the vehicle should get out as soon as it is
safe to do so. If you have breathing problems
but cannot get out of the vehicle after an airbag
inates, then get fresh air by opening a window
or a door. If you experience breathing problems
following an airbag deployment, you should
seek medical attention.Your vehicle has a feature that may automatically
unlock the doors, turn the interior lamps on, and turn
the hazard warning ashers on when the airbags inate.
You can lock the doors, turn the interior lamps off,
and turn the hazard warning ashers off by using the
controls for those features.
In many crashes severe enough to inate the airbag,
windshields are broken by vehicle deformation.
Additional windshield breakage may also occur from
the right front passenger airbag.Airbags are designed to inate only once. After an
airbag inates, you will need some new parts for the
airbag system. If you do not get them, the airbag
system will not be there to help protect you in another
crash. A new system will include airbag modules and
possibly other parts. The service manual for your
vehicle covers the need to replace other parts.

module which records information after a crash.

Let only qualied technicians work on the airbag
systems. Improper service can mean that an
airbag system will not work properly. See your

The key can be used for the ignition and all door locks.
The key has a bar-coded key tag that the dealer/retailer
or qualied locksmith can use to make new keys.
Store this information in a safe place, not in your
vehicle.
See your dealer/retailer if a replacement key or
additional key is needed.
Notice:If you ever lock your keys in your vehicle,
you may have to damage the vehicle to get in.
Be sure you have spare keys.
If you are locked out of your vehicle, call the Roadside

on page 7-6.Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
System
Your Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system operates on
a radio frequency subject to Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) Rules and with Industry Canada.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules.
Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
1. This device may not cause interference.
2. This device must accept any interference received,
including interference that may cause undesired
operation of the device.

Q(Lock):PressQto lock all the doors.
If enabled through the Driver Information Center (DIC),
the turn signal lamps will ash once to indicate
locking has occurred. If enabled through the DIC,
the horn will chirp when
Qis pressed again within
three seconds of the previous press of the lock button.

Pressing
Qwill arm the content theft-deterrent system.
SeeContent Theft-Deterrent on page 2-24.
"(Unlock):Press"to unlock the driver’s door. If"is
pressed again within three seconds, all remaining doors
will unlock.
If it is dark enough outside, your interior lamps will
come on and stay on for 20 seconds or until the ignition
is turned on. If enabled through the DIC, the turn
signal lamps will ash twice to indicate unlocking has

Buttons) on page 3-63. If enabled through the DIC,
the exterior lights will turn on briey if it is dark enough
outside. See “APPROACH LIGHTING” underDIC

Pressing
"on the RKE transmitter will disarm the
content theft-deterrent system. SeeContent
Theft-Deterrent on page 2-24.You can lower the windows by pressing and holding
"
on the RKE transmitter. SeePower Windows on
page 2-20for additional information.
If you use the RKE transmitter to enter your vehicle and
the remote recall memory feature is on, automatic
seat and adjustable mirror movements may occur.
To use this feature again, you must rst perform a recall
to the other memorized position or use the easy exit
feature. See “MEMORY SEAT RECALL” under
DIC Vehicle Customization (With DIC Buttons) on
page 3-63for additional information.
L(Vehicle Locator/Panic Alarm):Press and release
Lto locate your vehicle. The turn signal lamps will
ash and the horn will sound three times.
Press and hold
Lfor more than two seconds to
activate the panic alarm. The turn signal lamps will ash
and the horn will sound repeatedly for 30 seconds.
The alarm will turn off when the ignition is moved
to RUN or
Lis pressed again. The ignition must be in
OFF for the panic alarm to work.

/(Remote Start):Press and release the lock button
and then press and hold the remote start button to
start the vehicle.
To start the vehicle using the remote start feature:
1. Aim the transmitter at the vehicle.
2. Press and release the transmitter’s lock button,
then immediately press and hold the transmitter’s
remote start button until the turn signal lights ash.
If you cannot see the vehicle’s lights, press
and hold the remote start button for at least
four seconds. The vehicle’s doors will lock.
Pressing the remote start button again after the
vehicle has started will turn off the ignition.
When the vehicle starts, the parking lamps will turn
on and remain on while the vehicle is running.
3. If it is the rst remote start since the vehicle has
been driven, repeat these steps, while the engine
is still running, to extend the engine running time
by 10 minutes. Remote start can be extended
one time.
After entering the vehicle during a remote start, insert
and turn the key to ON/RUN to drive the vehicle.If the vehicle is left running it will automatically
shut off after 10 minutes unless a time extension
has been done.
To manually shut off a remote start:
Aim the RKE transmitter at the vehicle and press
the remote start button until the parking lamps
turn off.
Turn on the hazard warning ashers.
Turn the ignition switch on and then off.
The vehicle can be remote started two separate times
between driving sequences. The engine will run for
10 minutes after each remote start.
Or, you can extend the engine run time by another
10 minutes within the rst 10 minute remote start time
frame, and before the engine stops.
For example, if the lock button and then the remote
start buttons are pressed again after the vehicle
has been running for ve minutes, 10 minutes are
added, allowing the engine to run for 15 minutes.
The additional ten minutes are considered a
second remote vehicle start.

Once two remote starts, or a single remote start with
one time extension has been done, the vehicle must be
started with the key.
After the key is removed from the ignition, the vehicle
can be remote started again.
The vehicle cannot be remote started if the key is in the
ignition, the hood is not closed, or if there is an
emission control system malfunction.
Also, the engine will turn off during a remote vehicle
start if the coolant temperature gets too high or if the
oil pressure gets low.
Vehicles that have the remote vehicle start feature are
shipped from the factory with the remote vehicle
start system enabled. The system may be enabled or
disabled through the DIC. See “REMOTE START” under
DIC Vehicle Customization (With DIC Buttons) on
page 3-63for additional information. If your vehicle
does not have DIC buttons, see your dealer/retailer to
enable or disable the remote vehicle start system.Doors and Locks
Door Locks
{CAUTION:
Unlocked doors can be dangerous.
Passengers, especially children, can easily
open the doors and fall out of a moving
vehicle. When a door is locked, the handle
will not open it. You increase the chance
of being thrown out of the vehicle in a
crash if the doors are not locked. So, wear
safety belts properly and lock the doors
whenever you drive.
Young children who get into unlocked
vehicles may be unable to get out. A child
can be overcome by extreme heat and can
suffer permanent injuries or even death
from heat stroke. Always lock your vehicle
whenever you leave it.

Outsiders can easily enter through an
unlocked door when you slow down or
stop your vehicle. Locking your doors can
help prevent this from happening.
There are several ways to lock and unlock your vehicle.
To unlock the door from the outside, use the keyless
entry system or the key.
To unlock or lock the door from the inside, slide the
manual lever at the top of the door up or down.
Power Door Locks
The power door lock switches are located on the
front doors.
Q(Lock):Remove the key from the ignition and
press to lock all of the doors.
K(Unlock):Press to unlock the doors.
Delayed Locking
When locking the doors with the power lock switch or
the keyless entry transmitter and a door or the liftgate
(if equipped) is open, the delayed locking feature
will delay locking the doors until ve seconds after the
last door is closed. You will hear three chimes to
signal that the delayed locking feature is in use.
Pressing the power lock switch twice will override the
delayed locking feature and immediately lock all
the doors.
You can also program this feature using the DIC.

Programmable Automatic
Door Locks
Your vehicle is equipped with an automatic lock/unlock
feature which enables you to program your vehicle’s
power door locks. You can program this feature through
the Driver Information Center (DIC). SeeDIC Vehicle
Customization (With DIC Buttons) on page 3-63for more
information on DIC programming.

Rear Door Security Locks
Your vehicle may have rear door security locks.
These prevent passengers from opening the rear doors
from the inside.
The rear door security
locks are located on the
inside edge of each
rear door. You must open
the rear doors to access
them. The label depicting
lock and unlock positions
is located near the lock.
To set the locks, do the following:
1. Insert the key into the security lock slot and turn it
so the slot is in the horizontal position.
2. Close the door.To open a rear door when the security lock is on, do the
following:
1. Unlock the by lifting the rear door manual lock, the
power door lock switch, or if the vehicle has one, by
using the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter.
2. Open the door from the outside.
To cancel the rear door security lock, do the following:
1. Unlock the door and open it from the outside.
2. Insert the key into the security lock slot and turn it
so the slot is in the vertical position.
Lockout Protection
This feature protects you from locking your key in the
vehicle when the key is in the ignition and a door
is open.
If the driver’s side power lock switch is pressed when a
door is open and the key is in the ignition, all of the
doors will lock and then the driver’s door will unlock.
If the passenger’s side power lock switch is pressed
when a door is open and the key is in the ignition,
all of the doors will lock and then the passenger’s door
