o Engine Oil and Filter The engine oil and filter should be changed at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. If the caris being driven in severe conditions, more frequent oil and filter changes are required. F060B01A-AAT
o Drive Belts Inspect all drive belts for evidence of cuts, cracks, excessive wear or oil saturation and replace if necessary.Drive belts should be checked period- ically for proper tension and adjusted as necessary. After installing a new filter, run the
engine for several minutes, and checkfor leaks at the connections. Fuel fil- ters should be installed by trained technicians.

o Fuel Lines, Fuel Hoses and
Connections
Check the fuel lines, fuel hoses and
connections for leakage and damage.Have a trained technician replace anydamaged or leaking parts immedi- ately. F060E01A-AAT
o Timing Belt
Inspect all parts related to the timingbelt for damage and deformation. Replace any damaged parts immedi-ately. F060G01A-AAT
o Vapor Hose and Fuel Filler Cap
The vapor hose and fuel filler cap should be inspected at those intervalsspecified in the maintenance sched- ule. Make sure that a new vapor hose or fuel filler cap is correctly replaced.

o Fuel Filter A clogged filter can limit the speed at which the vehicle may be driven, dam-age the emission system and cause hard starting. If an excessive amount of foreign matter accumulates in thefuel tank, the filter may require re- placement more frequently. WARNING (Diesel only):
Never work on injection system with
engine running or within 30 sec- onds after shutting off engine. Highpressure pump, rail, injectors and high pressure pipes are subjected to high pressure even after the en-gine has been switched off. The fuel jet produced by fuel leaks may cause serious injury, if it contactswith the body. People using pace- makers should not move closer than 30cm to the ECU or wiring harness within the engine room with the engine running, since the high currents in the Common Rail sys-tem produce considerable magnetic fields.

7CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL

G030B02FC-GAT Recommended Oil (Diesel Engine) Engine oil is essential to the perfor- mance and service of the engine. It issuggested that you check the oil level every 500km or before starting a long trip and more often if you are driving insevere conditions. The engine oil quality should meet the following classification: API class: CF-4 or ABOVE ACEA class: B4 or ABOVE NOTE: SAE 0W-30 oil is for extra cold zone and to be restricted by driving con- dition and dealing area. (Especially,not recommended for sustained high loaded and high speed opera- tion.)
G030A02O-GAT Recommended Oil Gasoline Engine
Engine oil is essential to the perfor- mance and service of the engine. It is suggested that you check the oil level at least once a week in normal use andmore often if you are on a trip or driving in severe conditions. The engine oil quality should meet the following classification. API SJ, SL or ABOVE, ILSAC GF-3 or ABOVE G030B01JMNOTE:
o For good fuel economy, SAE 5W-
20 (5W-30), ILSAC GF-3 engine oil is preferred regardless of regionaloption and engine variation.
o If SAE 5W-20, ILSAC GF-3 engine
oil is not available, secondary rec-ommended engine oil for corre- sponding temperature range can be used.

REPLACING THE SPARK PLUGS
WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled by engine coolant temperature andmay sometimes operate even when the engine is not running. Use ex- treme caution when working nearthe blades of the cooling fan so that you are not injured by a rotating fan blade. As the engine coolant tem-perature decreases, the fan will auto- matically shut off. This is a normal condition.

The spark plugs should be changed at the intervals specified in the vehicle maintenances schedule in Section 5 or whenever engine performance indicatesthey should be changed. Symptoms that suggest poor spark plug perfor- mance include engine misfiring underload, loss of fuel economy, poor accel- eration, etc. When spark plugs are re- placed, always use spark plugs recom-mended by Hyundai. The use of other spark plugs can result in loss of perfor- mance, radio interference or enginedamage. NOTE: When replacing the spark plugs, genuine Hyundai replacement parts are recommended. Recommended Spark Plugs:
Unleaded: 1.0 ~ 1.1 mm (0.039 ~ 0.043 in.) Leaded: 0.7 ~ 0.8 mm(0.028 ~ 0.032 in.)

3. If the transaxle fluid level is low, use
a funnel to add transaxle fluid through the dipstick tube until the levelreaches the "HOT" range. Do not overfill.
WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled by en- gine coolant temperature and maysometimes operate even when the engine is not running. Use extreme caution when working near the bladesof the cooling fan, so that you are not injured by a rotating fan blade. As the engine coolant temperature decreas-es, the fan will automatically shut off. This is a normal condition.
1. Open the hood, being careful to keep
hands, long hair and clothing clear of any moving parts. WARNING (Diesel only):

2. Remove the transaxle dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert the dipstick as far as it will go, then remove it again.Now check the fluid level on the dipstick. It should be in the "HOT" range on the dipstick. G110D03A

33REMOVAL OF WATER FROM THE FUEL FILTER
1. Loosen the drain plug at the bottom
of the fuel filter.
2. Tighten the drain plug when water no longer comes out.
3. Check to be sure that the warning
lamp illuminates when the ignition key is turned to "ON", and that it goes off when the engine is started.If in doubt, consult your nearest authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
NOTE: It is recommended that water accu- mulated in the fuel filter should be removed by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

G240A01A-AAT POWER STEERING HOSES It is suggested that you check the power steering hose connections forfluid leakage at regular intervals. The power steering hoses should be re- placed if there is severe surface crack-ing, scuffing or worn spots. Deteriora- tion of the hose could cause prema- ture failure. G300A02B-GAT (DIESEL ENGINE) If the fuel filter warning light illuminates during driving, it indicates that waterhas accumulated in the fuel filter. If this occurs, remove the water as described below.
It is due to a power steering fluidcharacteristic in extremely cold con-ditions. Recommended Fluid Use PSF-3 type fluid NOTE: Do not start the engine when the power steering oil reservoir is empty.
!WARNING:
Be sure to carefully wipe away any water drained out in this manner, because the fuel mixed in the water might be ignited and result in a fire.

5. Open the hood.
6. Draw the vertical line (through the
center of each headlight beam pat-tern) and the horizontal line (throughthe center of each headlight beam pattern) on the aiming screen. And then, draw a horizontal parallel line at 30 mm (1.18 in.) under the horizontal line.
7. Adjust each cut-off line of the low beam to the parallel line with a phillipsscrewdriver - VERTICAL AIMING.

If the vehicle has had front body repair and the headlight assembly has beenreplaced, an headlight aiming should be checked using an aiming screen as shown in the illustration. Turn on theheadlight switch. (Low Beam Position)
1. Adjust headlights so that main axisof light is parallel to center line of the body and is aligned with point "P" shown in the illustration.
2. Dotted lines in the illustration show the center of headlights.
G290B03A-GAT Adjustment After Headlight As- sembly Replacement
G290A03A-GAT Before performing aiming adjustment, make sure of the following.
1. Keep all tires inflated to the correct
pressure.
2. Place the vehicle on level ground
and press the front bumper and rear bumper down several times. Place the vehicle at a distance of 3,000 mm (118 in.) from the test wall.
3. See that the vehicle is unloaded (except for full levels of coolant,engine oil and fuel, and spare tire,jack, and tools). Have the driver or equivalent weight placed in driver's seat.
4. Clean the head lights lenses and turn on the headlight (low beam). G290B01B
