2- 12 C160G01A-GAT To Keep Locks from FreezingTo keep the locks from freezing, squirt an ap- proved de-icer fluid or glycerine into the keyopening. If a lock is covered with ice, squirt it withan approved de-icing fluid to remove the ice. Ifthe lock is frozen internally, you may be able tothaw it out by using a heated key. Handle theheated key with care to avoid injury. NOTE: The proper temperature for using the immo-bilizer key is from -40°C to 80°C. If you heatthe immobilizer key over 80°C to open thefrozen lock, it may cause damage to thetransponder in its head. C160H01A-AAT Use Approved Anti-Freeze in Window Washer System To keep the water in the window washer system from freezing, add an approved anti-freeze solu-tion in accordance with instructions on the con-tainer. Window washer anti-freeze is availablefrom Hyundai dealers and most auto parts out-lets. Do not use engine coolant or other types ofanti-freeze as these may damage the finish.
C160B01A-GAT Snowy or Icy ConditionsTo drive your vehicle in deep snow, it may be necessary to use snow tires or to install tirechains on your tires. If snow tires are needed, itis necessary to select tires equivalent in size andtype to the original equipment tires. Failure to doso may adversely affect the safety and handlingof your car. Speeding, rapid acceleration, sud-den brake applications, and sharp turns arepotentially very hazardous practices. Duringdeceleration, use engine braking to the fullestextent. Sudden brake applications on snowy oricy roads may cause skids to occur. You need tokeep sufficient distance between the vehicle infront and your vehicle. Also, apply the brakegently. It should be noted that installing tire chainson the tire will provide a greater driving force, butwill not prevent side skids. NOTE: Tire chains are not legal in all provinces.Check province laws before fitting tire chains. C160C01A-AAT Use High Quality Ethylene Glycol Coolant Your Hyundai is delivered with high quality ethyl- ene glycol coolant in the cooling system. It is theonly type of coolant that should be used becauseit helps prevent corrosion in the cooling system, lubricates the water pump and prevents freezing.Be sure to replace or replenish your coolant in
C160D01F-AAT Check Battery and Cables Winter puts additional burdens on the battery system. Visually inspect the battery and cablesas described in Section 6 (See page 6-18). Thelevel of charge in your battery can be checkedby your Hyundai dealer or a service station. C160E01A-AAT Change to "Winter Weight" Oil if Necessary In some climates it is recommended that a lower viscosity "winter weight" oil be used during coldweather. See Section 9 for recommendations. Ifyou aren't sure what weight oil you should use, consult your Hyundai dealer. C160F01F-GAT Check Spark Plugs and Ignition Sys- tem Inspect your spark plugs as described in Section 6 (See page 6-8) and replace them if necessary. Also check all ignition wiring and components tobe sure they are not cracked, worn or damagedin any way.
accordance with the maintenance schedule inSection 5. Before winter, have your coolant test-ed to assure that its freezing point is sufficient forthe temperatures anticipated during the winter.

WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY 3-3
5. If the water pump drive belt is broken or
engine coolant is leaking out, stop the engine immediately and call the nearest Hyundaidealer for assistance.
WARNING:Do not remove the radiator cap when theengine is hot. This can allow coolant to beblown out of the opening and cause seriousburns.
6. If you cannot find the cause of the overheat- ing, wait until the engine temperature has returned to normal. Then, if the engine cool-ant has been lost, carefully add coolant to thereservoir (page 6-8) to bring the fluid level inthe reservoir up to the halfway mark.
7. Proceed with caution, keeping alert for fur- ther signs of overheating. If overheating hap-pens again, call a Hyundai dealer for assis-tance.
CAUTION:Serious loss of engine coolant indicates thereis a leak in the cooling system and this shouldbe checked as soon as possible by a Hyundaidealer. 2. The spare tire should only be used temporari-
ly and should be returned to the luggagecompartment as soon as the original tire canbe repaired or replaced.
3. Continuous use at speeds of over 80 km/h (50 mph) is not recommended.
4. As the temporary spare tire is specifically designed for your car, it should not be used onany other vehicle.
5. The temporary spare tire should not be used on any other wheels, nor should standardtires, snow tires, wheel covers or trim ringsbe used with the temporary spare wheel. Ifsuch use is attempted, damage to theseitems or other car components may occur.
6. The temporary spare tire pressure should be checked once a month while the tire is stored.
D040A01GK-GAT TEMPORARY SPARE TIREThe following instructions for the temporary spare tire should be observed:
1. Check inflation pressure as soon as practical
after installing the spare tire, and adjust to the specified pressure. The tire pressure shouldbe periodically checked and maintained atthe specified pressure while the tire is stored.
Spare Tire Pressure CAUTION:
o Do not use snow chains with your tempo-
rary spare tire.
o Do not use more than one temporary spare tire at a time.

o Lower-than-recommended tire pressures
cause uneven tread wear and poor han- dling.
o Higher-than-recommended tire pressures increase the chance of damage from im-pacts and cause uneven tread wear.
CAUTION: Always observe the following:
o Check pressures when the tires are cold. That is, after the car has been parked for at least three hours and hasn't been driv-en more than 1.6 km or one mile sincestarting up.
o Check the pressure of your spare tire each time you check the pressure ofother tires. I050A02GK-GAT

TIRE ROTATION
I040A01S-GAT
SNOW TIRES If you equip your car with snow tires, they should be the same size and have the sameload capacity as the original tires. Snow tiresshould be installed on all four wheels; other-wise, poor handling may result. Snow tires should carry 28 kPa (4 psi) more air pressure than the pressure recommended forthe standard tires on the tire label on the driveside center pillar outer panel, or up to themaximum pressure shown on the tire sidewall whichever is less. Do not drive faster than 120 km/h (75 mph)when your car is equipped with snow tires. Tires should be rotated every 10,000 km (6,000miles). If you notice that tires are wearing un-evenly between rotations, have the car checkedby a Hyundai dealer so the cause may becorrected. After rotating, adjust the tire pressures and besure to check wheel nut torque. WARNING: Do not mix bias-ply and radial-ply tires un- der any circumstances. This may cause dan-gerous handling characteristics.
I060A01GK
To minimize tire and chain wear, do not contin-ue to use tire chains when they are no longerneeded. WARNING:
o When driving on roads covered with snow or ice, drive at less than 30 km/h (20 mph).
o Use tire chains less than 10mm (0.39 in.) for 16" and 17" tires.
