If the engine will not start, do not push or pull the car to start it. This could result in a collision or cause other damage. 1. Check fuel level.
2. With the key in the off position,
Check all connectors at ignition coils and spark plugs. Reconnect any that may be disconnected or loose.
3. Check the fuel line in the engine room.
4. If engine still refuses to start, call a Hyundai dealer or seek other quali- fied assistance.
D010D01A-AAT If Engine Stalls While Driving
1. Reduce your speed gradually, keep- ing a straight line. Move cautiously off the road to a safe place.
2. Turn on your emergency flashers.
3. Try to start the engine again. If your vehicle will not start, contact aHyundai dealer or seek other quali-fied assistance.
1. If your car has an automatic
transaxle, be sure the gear selector lever is in "N" or "P" and the emer- gency brake is set.
2. Check the battery connections to be sure they are clean and tight.
3. Turn on the interior light. If the light dims or goes out when you operate the starter, the battery is discharged.
4. Check the starter connections to be sure they are securely tightened.
5. Do not push or pull the vehicle to
start it. See instructions for "Jump Starting" on the following pages. D010B01GK

D060J01FC-GAT After Changing Wheels If you have a tire gauge, remove the valve cap and check the air pressure.If the pressure is lower than recom- mended, drive slowly to the nearest service station and inflate to the cor-rect pressure. If it is too high, adjust it until it is correct. Always reinstall the valve cap after checking or adjustingtire pressure. If the cap is not replaced, air mayleak from the tire. If you lose a valve cap, buy another and install it assoon as possible. After you have changed wheels, al- ways secure the flat tire in its place inthe luggage compartment and return the jack and tools to their proper stor- age locations.
IF YOUR VEHICLE MUST BE TOWED
D080A01O-GAT If your vehicle has to be towed, it should be done by your Hyundai dealeror a commercial tow truck service. This will help assure that your vehicle is not damaged in towing. Also, profes-sionals are generally aware of local laws governing towing. In any case, rather than risk damage to your car, itis suggested that you show this infor- mation to the tow truck operator. Be sure that a safety chain system is usedand that all local laws are observed. It is recommended that your vehicle be towed with a wheel lift and dollies orflatbed equipment with all the wheels off the ground.

o Your vehicle can be damaged if towed incorrectly!
o Be sure the transaxle is in neu-
tral.
o When the engine will not start, be
sure the steering is unlocked by placing the key in the "ACC" po- sition.

1) If the vehicle is being towed with the
rear wheels on the ground, be sure the parking brake is released.
NOTE: Before towing, check the level of the automatic transaxle fluid. If it is below the "HOT" range on the dip-stick, add fluid. If you cannot add fluid, a towing dolly must be used.
2) If any of the loaded wheels or sus- pension components are damaged or the vehicle is being towed with the front wheels on the ground, use a towing dolly under the front wheels.
o Manual Transaxle: If you do not use a towing dolly,place the ignition key in the "ACC"position and put the transaxle in "N (Neutral)".
CAUTION:
Do not tow with the key removed or in the "LOCK" position when tow- ing from the rear without a towing dolly. o Automatic Transaxle:
Be sure to use a towing dolly underthe front wheels.
CAUTION:
A vehicle with an automatictransaxle should never be towed from the rear with the front wheels on the ground. This can cause seri-ous damage to the transaxle.
3) It is recommended that your vehicle be towed with all the wheels off the ground.
o When towing the vehicle, take
care not to cause damage to the bumper or underbody of the ve- hicle.
o Do not tow with sling type truck as this may cause damage to the bumper or underbody of the ve-hicle. HGK4016

D080D02A-AAT Emergency Towing For emergency towing when no com- mercial tow vehicle is available, attach a tow cable, chain or strap to one of the towing hooks under the front/rear ofyour car. Do not attempt to tow your vehicle in this manner on any unpaved surface. This could result in seriousdamage to your car. Nor should towing be attempted if the wheels, drive train, axles, steering orbrakes are damaged. Before towing, be sure the transaxle is in neutral and the key is in "ACC" (with the engine off)or in the "ON" position (with the engine running). A driver must be in the towed car to steer it and operate the brakes. CAUTION:
o If the car is being towed with all four wheels on the ground, it can be towed only from the front. Be sure that the transaxle is in neu-tral. Do not tow at speeds greater than 50 km/h (30 mph) and for more than 25 km (15 miles).
o Be sure the steering is unlocked by placing the key in the "ACC"position. A driver must be in thetowed vehicle to operate the steering and brakes
IF YOU LOSE YOUR KEYS
D120A01A-GAT If you lose your keys, many Hyundai dealers can make you a new key if you have your key number. If you lock the keys inside your car and you cannotobtain a new key, many Hyundai deal- ers can use special tools to open the door for you. IMMOBILISER SYSTEM
B880B04A-EAT Keys All of the locks fitted to the vehicle are operated by the same key. However,since it is possible to lock the doors without the use of the key, care should be exercised to ensure that the keydoes not become locked inside the vehicle by mistake. AX10020A-1

6) Avoid harsh braking during the first 100 miles of urban motoring or 1,000 miles of motorway driving to allowthe friction facings of the brake pads and shoes to bed against the discs and drums properly.
7) No trailer towing should be under- taken during the running in period. B880A01A-EAT The immobiliser system is an anti-theft device, designed to deter automobile theft.
NOTE: A non-genuine duplicate key will not start the engine.
CAUTION:
When starting the engine, do not use the key with other immobiliser keysaround. Otherwise the engine may not start or may stop soon after it starts.Keep each key separate to prevent immobiliser malfunction, once you have received your new vehicle.

5ILLUMINATED IGNITION SWITCH
B880C02A-EAT Key Numbers The vehicle key number is recorded on a metal tag attached to the keys when the vehicle is first delivered to you.The key number should be recorded and kept in a safe place in case the need to order further keys arises. Newkeys are available from any Hyundai authorised repairer by quoting the rel- evant key number.In the interest of security, the metal tag attached to the keys which bears thekey number should be removed fromthe key ring after you receive your new vehicle. In addition, key numbers can- not be provided by Hyundai for secu-rity reasons. If you need additional keys or if you should lose your keys, your Hyundaiauthorised repairer can make new keys.

YB030C2-E (Not all models) Whenever a door is opened, the igni- tion switch will be illuminated for your convenience provided the ignition switch is not in the "ON" position. Thelight will go off approximately 10 sec- onds after closing the door or when the ignition switch is turned on.

DOOR LOCKS

WARNING:
o Unlocked doors can be danger- ous. Before you drive away (es- pecially if there are children inthe car), be sure that all the doors are securely closed and locked so that the doors cannot be inad-vertently opened from the inside. This helps ensure that doors will not be opened accidentally. Also,when combined with the proper use of seat belts, locking the doors helps keep occupants frombeing ejected from the car in case of an accident.
o Before opening the door, always look for and avoid oncoming traf-fic.

LOCK B040C01S-AAT Locking From the Outside The doors can be locked without a key. To lock the doors, first push the inside lock switch to the "LOCK" position sothat the red mark on the switch is not visible, then close the door. NOTE:
o When locking the door this way,
be careful not to lock the door with the ignition key left in thevehicle.
o To protect against theft, always
