Changing tires Follow these steps to change your
vehicle’s tire:
1. Park on a level, firm surface.
2. Move the shift lever into P (Park,for automatic transaxle vehicle) or
neutral (for manual transaxle
vehicle), apply the parking brake,
and place the ignition switch in the
LOCK/OFF position.
3. Press the hazard warning flasher button.
4. Remove the wheel lug nut wrench, jack, jack handle, and spare tire
from the vehicle.
5. Block both the front and rear of the tire diagonally opposite of the tire
you are changing.
A vehicle can slip or roll off of a
jack causing serious injury or
death to you or those nearby.
Take the following safety precau
tions:
•Do not get under a vehicle that
is supported by a jack.
•NEVER attempt to change a tire
in the lane of traffic. ALWAYS
move the vehicle completely off
the road on level, firm ground
away from traffic before trying to
change a tire. If you cannot find
a level, firm place off the road,
call a towing service for assis
tance.
•Be sure to use the jack provided
with the vehicle.

•ALWAYS place the jack on the
designated jacking positions on
the vehicle and NEVER on the
bumpers or any other part of the
vehicle for jacking support.
•Do not start or run the engine
while the vehicle is on the jack.
•Do not allow anyone to remain
in the vehicle while it is on the
jack.
•Keep children away from the
road and the vehicle.

8. Insert the jack handle into the jackand turn it clockwise, raising the
vehicle until the tire clears the
ground. Make sure the vehicle is
stable on the jack. 9. Loosen the lug nuts with the wheel
lug nut wrench and remove them
with your fingers. Remove the
wheel from the studs and lay it flat
on the ground out of the way.
Remove any dirt or debris from
the studs, mounting surfaces, and
wheel.
10. Install the spare tire onto the studs of the hub.
11. Tighten the lug nuts with your fin gers onto the studs with the
smaller end of the lug nuts clos
est to the wheel.
12. Lower the vehicle to the ground by turning the jack handle coun
terclockwise. 13. Use the wheel lug nut wrench to
tighten the lug nuts in the order
shown. Doublecheck each lug
nut until they are tight. After
changing tires, we recommend
that an authorized HYUNDAI
dealer tighten the lug nuts to their
proper torque as soon as possi
ble.
The wheel lug nut should be
tightened to 9~11 kg.m (65~79
lb.ft).

If you have a tire gauge, check the
tire pressure (see “Tires and Wheels”
in chapter 8 for tire pressure instruc
tions.). If the pressure is lower or
higher than recommended, drive
slowly to the nearest service station
and adjust it to the recommended
pressure. Always reinstall the valve
cap after checking or adjusting tire
pressure. If the cap is not replaced,
air may leak from the tire. If you lose
a valve cap, buy another and install it
as soon as possible. After changing
tires, secure the flat tire and return
the jack and tools to their proper stor
age locations.
Information
Check the tire pressure as soon as pos
sible after installing a spare tire.
Adjust it to the recommended pres
sure.
Your vehicle has metric threads on
the studs and lug nuts. Make certain
during tire changing that the same
nuts that were removed are rein
stalled. If you have to replace your
lug nuts make sure they have metric
threads to avoid damaging the studs
and ensure the wheel is properly
secured to the hub. We recommend
that you consult an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer for assistance.
If any of the equipment such as the
jack, lug nuts, studs, or other equip
ment is damaged or in poor condi
tion, do not attempt to change the
tire and call for assistance.

Your vehicle is equipped with emer
gency commodities to help you
respond to emergency situation.
Fire extinguisher
If there is small fire and you know
how to use the fire extinguisher, fol
low these steps carefully.
1. Pull out the safety pin at the top of the extinguisher that keeps the
handle from being accidentallypressed.
2. Aim the nozzle towards the base of the fire.
3. Stand approximately 2.5 m (8 ft) away from the fire and squeeze
the handle to discharge the extin
guisher. If you release the handle,
the discharge will stop.
4. Sweep the nozzle back and forth at the base of the fire. After the fire
appears to be out, watch carefully
since it may reignite.
First aid kit
Supplies for use in giving first aid
such as scissors, bandage and
adhesive tape, etc. are provided.
Triangle reflector
Place the triangle reflector on the
road to warn oncoming vehicles dur
ing emergencies, such as when the
vehicle is parked by the roadside due
to problems.
Tire pressure gauge
(if equipped)
Tires normally lose some air in day
today use, and you may have to add
a air periodically and usually it is not
a sign of a leaking tire, but of normal
wear. Always check tire pressure
when the tires are cold because tire
pressure increases with tempera
ture. To check the tire pressure, take the
following steps:
1. Unscrew the inflation valve cap
that is located on the rim of the
tire.
2. Press and hold the gauge against the tire valve. Some air will leak as
you begin and more will leak if you
don't press the gauge in firmly.
3. A firm nonleaking push will acti vate the gauge.
4. Read the tire pressure on the gauge to see whether the tire
pressure is low or high.
5. Adjust the tire pressure to the specified pressure. Refer to "Tires
and Wheels" in chapter 8.
6. Reinstall the inflation valve cap.

OWNER MAINTENANCE
The following lists are vehicle checks
and inspections that should be per
formed at the frequencies indicated
to help ensure safe, dependable
operation of your vehicle.
Any adverse conditions should be
brought to the attention of your deal
er as soon as possible.
These Owner Maintenance Checks
are generally not covered by war
ranties and you may be charged for
labor, parts and lubricants used. Owner maintenance schedule
When you stop for fuel:
• Check the engine oil level.
• Check the coolant level in coolantreservoir.
• Check the windshield washer fluid level.
• Look for low or underinflated tires.
• Check the radiator and condenser. Check if the front of the radiator
and condenser are clean and not
blocked with leaves, dirt or insectsetc.
If any of the above par ts areextremely dirty or you are not sure
of their condition, we recommend
that you contact an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.
While operating your vehicle:
• Note any changes in the sound of the exhaust or any smell of
exhaust fumes in the vehicle.
• Check for vibrations in the steering wheel. Notice any increased steer
ing effort or looseness in the steer
ing wheel, or change in its straight
ahead position.
• Notice if your vehicle constantly turns slightly or "pulls" to one side
when traveling on smooth, levelroad.
• When stopping, listen and check for unusual sounds, pulling to one
side, increased brake pedal travel
or "hardtopush" brake pedal.
• If any slipping or changes in the operation of your transaxle occurs,
check the transaxle fluid level.
• Check automatic transaxle P (Park) function.
• Check the parking brake.
• Check for fluid leaks under your vehicle (water dripping from the air
conditioning system during or after
use is normal).
Be careful when checking your
engine coolant level when the
engine is hot. Scalding hot coolant
and steam may blow out under
pressure. This could cause burns
or other serious injury.

At least monthly:
• Check the coolant level in theengine coolant reservoir.
• Check the operation of all exterior lights, including the stoplights, turn
signals and hazard warning flash
ers.
• Check the inflation pressures of all tires including the spare.
At least twice a year
(i.e., every Spring and Fall):
• Check the radiator, heater and airconditioning hoses for leaks or
damage.
• Check the windshield washer spray and wiper operation. Clean
wiper blades with clean cloth
dampened with washer fluid.
• Check the headlight alignment.
• Check the muffler, exhaust pipes, shields and clamps.
• Check the lap/shoulder belts for wear and function.
• Check for worn tires and loose wheel lug nuts.
At least once a year:
• Clean the body and door drainholes.
• Lubricate the door hinges and checks, and hood hinges.
• Lubricate the door and hood locks and latches.
• Lubricate the door rubber weather strips.
• Check the air conditioning system.
• Inspect and lubricate automatic transaxle linkage and controls.
• Clean the battery and terminals.
• Check the brake/clutch fluid level.

Tire care
For proper maintenance, safety, and
maximum fuel economy, you must
always maintain recommended tire
inflation pressures and stay within
the load limits and weight distribution
recommended for your vehicle.
Recommended cold tire inflation
pressures
All tire pressures (including the
spare) should be checked when the
tires are cold. “Cold Tires” means the
vehicle has not been driven for at
least three hours or driven less than
1.6 km (one mile).
Recommended pressures must be
maintained for the best ride, top vehi
cle handling, and minimum tire wear.
For recommended inflation pressure,
refer to “Tire and wheels” in chapter
8.All specifications (sizes and pres
sures) can be found on a labelattached to the vehicle.
Tire underinflation
Severe underinflation (70 kPa (10
psi) or more) can lead to severe
heat buildup, causing blowouts,
tread separation and other tire fail
ures that can result in the loss of
vehicle control leading to severe
injury or death. This risk is much
higher on hot days and when driv
ing for long periods at high
speeds.

•Underinflation also results in
excessive wear, poor handling and
reduced fuel economy. Wheel
deformation also is possible. Keep
your tire pressures at the proper
levels. If a tire frequently needs
refilling, we recommend that the
system be checked by an author
ized HYUNDAI dealer.
•Overinflation produces a harsh
ride, excessive wear at the center
of the tire tread, and a greater pos
sibility of damage from road haz
ards.
•Warm tires normally exceed rec
ommended cold tire pressures by
28 to 41 kPa (4 to 6 psi). Do not
release air from warm tires to
adjust the pressure or the tires will
be underinflated.
•Be sure to reinstall the tire inflation
valve caps. Without the valve cap,
dirt or moisture could get into the
valve core and cause air leakage.
If a valve cap is missing, install a
new one as soon as possible.
Tire pressure
Always observe the following:
•Check tire pressure when the tires
are cold. (After vehicle has been
parked for at least three hours or
hasn't been driven more than 1.6
km (one mile) since startup.)
•Check the pressure of your spare
tire each time you check the pres
sure of other tires.
•Never overload your vehicle. Be
careful not to overload a vehicle
luggage rack if your vehicle is
equipped with one.
•Worn, old tires can cause acci
dents. If your tread is badly worn,
or if your tires have been dam
aged, replace them.

Tire Inflation
Overinflation or underinflation can
reduce tire life, adversely affect
vehicle handling, and lead to sud
den tire failure. This could result in
loss of vehicle control and poten
tial injury.

Checking tire inflation pressure
Check your tires once a month or
more.
Also, check the tire pressure of the
spare tire.
How to check
Use a good quality gage to check tire
pressure. You can not tell if your tires
are properly inflated simply by look
ing at them. Radial tires may look
properly inflated even when they're
underinflated.
Check the tire's inflation pressure
when the tires are cold. "Cold"
means your vehicle has been sitting
for at least three hours or driven no
more than 1.6 km (1 mile).Remove the valve cap from the tire
valve stem. Press the tire gage firm
ly onto the valve to get a pressure
measurement. If the cold tire inflation
pressure matches the recommended
pressure on the tire and loading
information label, no further adjust
ment is necessary. If the pressure is
low, add air until you reach the rec
ommended amount.
If you overfill the tire, release air by
pushing on the metal stem in the
center of the tire valve. Recheck the
tire pressure with the tire gage. Be
sure to put the valve caps back on
the valve stems. They help prevent
leaks by keeping out dirt and mois
ture.
•Inspect your tires frequently for
proper inflation as well as wear
and damage. Always use a tire
pressure gauge.
•Tires with too much or too little
pressure wear unevenly causing
poor handling, loss of vehicle
control, and sudden tire failure
leading to accidents, injuries,
and even death. The recom
mended cold tire pressure for
your vehicle can be found in this
manual and on the tire label
located on the driver's side cen
ter pillar.
•Worn tires can cause accidents.
Replace tires that are worn,
show uneven wear, or are dam
aged.
•Remember to check the pres
sure of your spare tire.
HYUNDAI recommends that you
check the spare every time you
check the pressure of the other
tires on your vehicle.
