When you press the Engine Start/Stop but-

✽NOTICE
• The engine will start by pressing
the Engine Start/Stop button, only
when the smart key is in the vehi-
cle.
• Even if the smart key is in the vehicle, if it is far away from the
driver, the engine may not start.
• When the Engine Start/Stop but- ton is in the ACC or ON position,
if any door is open, the system
checks for the smart key. If the
smart key is not in the vehicle, the
" " indicator will blink, and if
all doors are closed, the chime will
also sound for about 5 seconds.
The indicator will turn off while
the vehicle is moving. Keep the
smart key in the vehicle when
using the ACC position or if the
vehicle engine is ON.
Vehicle with manual transaxle:
1.Always carry the smart key with
you.
2.Make sure the parking brake is applied.
3.Make sure the shift lever is in neu- tral.
4.Depress the clutch and brake ped- als.
5.Press the Engine Start/Stop but- ton.
WARNING
Always wear appropriateshoes when operating your
vehicle. Unsuitable shoes,
such as high heels, ski boots,
sandals, flip-flops, etc., may
interfere with your ability to
use the brake, accelerator and
clutch pedals.
Do not start the vehicle with the accelerator pedal depressed.
The vehicle can move and lead
to an accident.
Wait until the engine rpm is normal. The vehicle may sud-
denly move if the brake pedal
is released when the rpm is
high.

1.Always carry the smart key with
you.
2.Make sure the parking brake is applied.
3.Make sure the shift lever is in P (Park).
4.Depress the brake pedal.

✽ ✽ NOTICE
• Do not wait for the engine to warm
up while the vehicle remains sta-
tionary.
Start driving at moderate engine
speeds. (Steep accelerating and
decelerating should be avoided.)
• Always start the vehicle with your foot on the brake pedal. Do not
depress the accelerator while
starting the vehicle. Do not race
the engine while warming it up.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to the vehi-
cle:
If the engine stalls while you are in motion, do not attemptto move the shift lever to the P(Park) position.
If traffic and road conditionspermit, you may put the shiftlever in the N (Neutral) posi-tion while the vehicle is stillmoving and press the EngineStart/Stop button in anattempt to restart the engine.
Do not push or tow your vehi- cle to start the engine.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to the vehi-cle:
Do not press the EngineStart/Stop button for more than10 seconds except when thestop lamp fuse is blown.
When the stop lamp fuse isblown, you can't start the enginenormally. Replace the fuse witha new one. If you are not able toreplace the fuse, you can startthe engine by pressing andholding the Engine Start/Stopbutton for 10 seconds with theEngine Start/Stop button in theACC position.
For your safety always depressthe brake and/or clutch pedalbefore starting the engine.

VSM OFF condition
To cancel VSM operation, press the
ESC OFF button. ESC OFF indicator
light ( ) will illuminate.
To turn on VSM, press the ESC OFF
button again. The ESC OFF indicator
light will go out.Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC)
(if equipped)
The Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC)
helps prevent the vehicle from rolling
backwards when starting a vehicle
from a stop on a hill. The system
operates the brakes automatically for
approximately 2 seconds and releas-
es the brake when the accelerator
pedal is depressed or after 2 sec-
onds.
✽ ✽NOTICE
• The HAC does not operate when
the shift lever is in P (Park) or N
(Neutral)
• The HAC activates even though the ESC (Electronic Stability
Control) is off but does not acti-
vate when the ESC has malfunc-
tioned.
WARNING
If ESC indicator light ( ) or
EPS warning light ( ) stays
on, your vehicle may have a
malfunction with the VSM sys-
tem. When the warning light illu-
minates have the vehicle
checked by an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer as soon as
possible.
CAUTION
Driving with varying tire or
wheel sizes may cause the ESCsystem to malfunction. Whenreplacing tires, make sure theyare the same size as your origi-nal tires for this vehicle.
WARNING
Always be ready to depress the
accelerator pedal when starting
off on a incline. The HAC acti-
vates only for approximately 2
seconds.

If the engine stalls while driving
Reduce your speed gradually,keeping a straight line. Move cau-
tiously off the road to a safe place.
Turn on your hazard warning flash- er.
Try to start the engine again. If your vehicle will not start, contact an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer or
seek other qualified assistance.
If the engine stalls at a cross-
road or crossing
If the engine stalls at a crossroad or
crossing, if safe to do so, move the
shift lever to the N (Neutral) position
and then push the vehicle to a safe
location.
If you have a flat tire while
driving
If a tire goes flat while you are driv-
ing:
Take your foot off the acceleratorpedal and let the vehicle slow
down while driving straight ahead.
Do not apply the brakes immedi-
ately or attempt to pull off the road
as this may cause loss of vehicle
control resulting in an accident.
When the vehicle has slowed to
such a speed that it is safe to do
so, brake carefully and pull off the
road. Drive off the road as far as
possible and park on firm, level
ground. If you are on a divided
highway, do not park in the median
area between the two traffic lanes. When the vehicle is stopped, press
the hazard warning flasher button,
move the shift lever into P (Park,
for automatic transaxle vehicle) or
neutral (for manual transaxle vehi-
cle), apply the parking brake, and
place the ignition switch in the
LOCK/OFF position.
Have all passengers get out of the vehicle. Be sure they all get out on
the side of the vehicle that is away
from traffic.
When changing a flat tire, follow the instructions provided later in
this chapter.

What to do in an emergency
Using the Tire Mobility Kit
1.Detach the speed restriction label(0) from the sealant bottle (1), and
place it in a highly visible place
inside the vehicle such as on the
steering wheel to remind the driver
not to drive too fast.
2.Screw connection hose (9) onto the connector of the sealant bottle.
3.Ensure that screw cap (8) is closed.
4.Unscrew the valve cap from the valve of the flat tire and screw fill-
ing hose (2) of the sealant bottle
onto the valve.
5.Insert the sealant bottle into the housing (4) of the compressor so
that the bottle is upright. 6.Ensure that the compressor is
switched off, position 0.
7.Plug the compressor power cord into the vehicle power outlet.
8.With the engine start/stop button position on or ignition switch posi-
tion on, switch on the compressor
and let it run for approximately 5~7
minutes to fill the sealant up to
proper pressure. (refer to the Tire
and Wheels, chapter 8). The infla-
tion pressure of the tire after filling
is unimportant and will be
checked/corrected later.
Be careful not to overinflate the tire
and stay away from the tire when
filling it. 9. Switch off the compressor.
10. Detach the hoses from the
sealant bottle connector and
from the tire valve.
Return the Tire Mobility Kit to its stor-
age location in the vehicle.
