and no seat belts are available for use when the seatback is folded down. Passengers who are notproperly seated and wearing seat belts could sustain serious inju- ries or death in case of an accidentor a sudden stop.
o Objects should not extend higher
than the top of the front seatbacks.This could allow cargo to slide forward and cause injury or dam- age during sudden stops.
o When you return the folded down seatback to its upright position,always be sure to install the head- rests in their proper positions. Head restraints are important tothe safety of occupants in a rear collision. If the headrests are not installed in their proper position,serious injury or death could re- sult if a rear end collision occurs.
3. Pull the seat cushion release handle
rear ward, then lift up a desired seatcushion.
!WARNING:
o When you return the folded down seatback to its upright position, make sure the seat belts are in position to be accessible and to function properly.
o When you return the folded down seatback to its upright position,be careful not to get your fingersor legs caught in the mechanism.
o The purpose of the fold down
rear seatback and the fold for-ward rear seat cushion is to in- crease cargo space. Do not allow passengers to sit in the cargoarea while the car is moving. This is not a proper seating position
4. To secure the seat, hook the secur-
ing strap under the seat back to the headrest stay of front driver andpassenger seat.
5. To return the seatback and seat
cushion to its normal position, re-verse the above procedure.
o When you return the seatback to its
upright position, always be sure it islocked into position by pulling and pushing on the top of seatback.

With the ignition key in the "ON" posi-tion, push either of the switches to warm the driver's seat or the passenger's seat.During mild weather or under conditions where the operation of the seat warmer is not needed, keep the switches in the"OFF" position. o The seat warmer will not operate if
ambient temperature is higher than 98.6°F (37°C).

Sitting in a reclined position or lying down when your vehicle is in motion can be dangerous. Even if you buckleup, your seat belts can't do their job when you're reclined. The shoulder belt can't do its jobbecause it won't be against your body. Instead, it will be in front of you. In a crash you could go into itwith great force, receiving serious neck or other injuries. The lap belt can't do its job either. Ina crash the belt could go up over your abdomen. The belt forces would be applied there, not at your strongpelvic bones. This could cause seri- ous internal injuries. For proper protection when the ve-hicle is in motion, have the seatback upright. Then sit back in the seat and wear your seat belt properly. Seepage 1-22.

SB090H1-E CARE OF SEAT BELTS Seat belt assemblies must never be disassembled or modified in any way.In addition, care should be exercised to ensure that the belt assemblies do not become damaged by being trapped inseat mechanisms, door shuts etc. SB090I-E Periodic Inspection It is recommended that all seat belts be inspected periodically for wear or dam-age of any kind. Parts of the system that are damaged should be replaced as soon as possible. Under no circum-stances must any part of the seat belt assemblies be dismantled or repairered. SB090J1-E Keep Belts Clean and Dry Seat belts should be kept clean and dry. If belts become dirty, they can be cleaned using a mild soap solution and warm water. Bleach, dye, strong deter-gents or abrasives should not be used since the fabric may become damaged and weakened.

The buckle should be firmly pressed into the stalk until locked which will be indicated by an audible "click".The length of the seat belt webbing will be automatically adjusted by the seat belt mechanism to allow the wearermaximum freedom of movement whilst the belt is being worn. However, in the event of rapid deceleration or impact,the belt mechanism will automatically lock. The mechanism will also lock if the seatbelt webbing is withdrawn too quickly when the belt is being fastened or if attempts are made to withdraw thewebbing whilst the vehicle is not on level ground. Should the seat belt lock under these conditions, it will be pos-sible to release the mechanism by al- lowing a small amount of webbing to be retracted and the belt withdrawn again.

The seat belts are fastened by pulling the belt buckle towards the seat belt stalk and inserting the metal tongue of the buckle into the stalk. NOTE: When pulling the seat belt buckle towards the fastening position makesure the webbing is not twisted.

You can adjust the height of the shoul- der belt anchor to one of the 4 positions. If the height of the adjusting seat belt istoo near your neck, you will not be getting the most effective protection. The shoulder portion should be ad-justed so that it lies across your chest and midway over your shoulder nearest the door and not your neck.To adjust the height of the seat belt anchor, lower or raise the height ad- juster into an appropriate position. Toraise the height adjuster, pull it up. To lower it, push it down while pressing the height adjuster button.Release the button to lock the anchor into position. Try sliding the release button to make sure that it has lockedinto the position.
WARNING:
o The height adjuster must be in the locked position when the vehicle is moving.
o The misadjustment of height of the shoulder belt could reduce theeffectiveness of the seat belt in a crash.

You should place the belt as low as possible on your hips, not on your waist. If the belt is located too high onyour body, you could slide under it in case of accident or a sudden stop. This could result of death, seriousinjury or property damage. Both arms should not be under or over the belt. Rather, one should be over and theother under, as shown in the illustration. Never wear the seat belt under the arm nearest the door.
*1) When the ignition key is turned from
"OFF" position to "ON" within 1 minute.
*2) If the vehicle speed exceeds 9km/ h, the seat belt chime also soundsfor approimately 1~2 minutes. If the vehicle speed is below 9km/h,1 minute later the seat belt chime also sounds for approimately 1~2 minutes.
NOTE: If the driver's seat belt is operated in this order "unbuckled

o When using the rear seat centre belt, you must lock all metal tabs and buckles. If any metal tab or buckle is not locked, it will in-crease the chance of injury in the event of collision.
o Never unlock the metal tab (a) and
the buckle (b) with the followingexceptions.(1)In case of folding rear seatbacks down.
(2)If transporting an object on the
rear seat may cause damage to the rear seat centre belt.
o Lock the metal tab (a) and the
buckle (b) immediately after fold-ing rear seatbacks up.

1. Before fastening the rear seat centre belt, confirm the metal tab (a) and buckle (b) are latched together.
2. After confirming that (a) and (b) are latched, pull the seat belt out of theretractor and insert the metal tab (c) into the buckle (d). B220D01TB
There will be an audible "click" when thetab locks in the buckle. The seat belt automatically adjusts to the proper length only after the lap belt is adjusted manu-ally so that it fits snugly around your hips. If you lean forward in a slow, easy motion, the belt will extend and let youmove around. If there is a sudden stop or impact, the belt will lock into position. It will also lock if you try to lean forwardtoo quickly.

The centre belt latching mechanismis different from those for the rear seat shoulder belts. When fastening the rear seat shoulder belts or therear seat centre belt, make sure they are inserted into the correct buckles to obtain maximum protection fromthe seat belt system and assure proper operation. B230A04A-EAT CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM Children riding in the car should sit in the rear seat and must always be prop-erly restrained to minimize the risk of injury in an accident, sudden stop or sudden manoeuvre. According to acci-dent statistics, children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seats than in the front seat. Larger childrenshould use one of the seat belts pro- vided. You are required by law to use safetyrestraints for children. If small children ride in your vehicle you must put them in a child restraint system (safety seat).Children could be injured or killed in a crash if their restraints are not properly secured. For small children and babies,a child seat or infant seat must be used. Before buying a particular child restraint system, make sure it fits your car andseat belts, and fits your child. Follow all the instructions provided by the manu- facturer when installing the child re-straint system.
o To disconnect the metal tab (a)
from the buckle (b), insert a nar-row-ended tool into the groovelocated on the buckle (b).

o Children who are too large to be in
a child restraint should sit in the rear seat and be restrained with the available lap/shoulder belts.Never allow children to ride in the front passenger seat.
o Always make sure that the shoul-
der belt portion of the outboardlap/shoulder belt is positioned midway over the shoulder, neveracross the neck or behind the back. Moving the child closer to the centre of the vehicle may helpprovide a good shoulder belt fit. The lap belt portion of the lap/ shoulder belt or the centre seat lapbelt must always be positioned as low as possible on the child's hips and as snug as possible.
o If the seat belt will not properly fit the child, Hyundai recommendsthe use of an approved boosterseat in the rear seat in order to raise the child's seating height so that the seat belt will properly fitthe child.
o Never allow a child to stand up or
kneel on the seat. o Never use an infant carrier or child
safety seat that "hooks" over a seatback; it may not provide ad- equate security in an accident.
o Never allow a child to be held in a person's arms while they are in amoving vehicle, as this could re-sult in serious injury to the child in the event of an accident or a sudden stop. Holding a child in amoving vehicle does not provide the child with any means of pro- tection during an accident, even ifthe person holding the child is wearing a seat belt.
o If the child restraint seat is not anchored properly, the risk of achild being seriously injured or killed in a collision greatly in-creases.
WARNING:
o This vehicle is equipped with air bags and you should never place a child or infant in the vehicle without the use of a Hyundai ap-proved child restraint system. Whenever possible always posi- tion the child restraint system inthe rear seat position. A Hyundai approved rear facing child seat may be positioned inthe front passenger seat when the air bag is deactivated. (Please read the appropriate section of thisOwners Handbook for a full expla- nation of its use).
o Since a safety belt or child re- straint system can become veryhot if it is left in a closed vehicle, be sure to check the seat coverand buckles before placing a child there.
o When the child restraint system is not in use, store it in the boot orfasten it with a safety belt so that it will not be thrown forward in thecase of a sudden stop or an acci- dent.!

!WARNING:
o Do not install a child restraint seat at the center of the rear seat using the vehicle's ISOFIX anchors. The ISOFIX anchors are only provided for the left and right outboard rearseating positions. Do not misuse the ISOFIX anchors by attempting to attach a child restraint seat inthe middle of the rear seat to the ISOFIX anchors. In a crash, the child restraint seat ISOFIX attach-ments may not be strong enough to secure the child restraint seat properly in the center of the rear seat and may break, causing seri- ous injury or death.
o When using the vehicle’s “ISOFIX” system to install a child restraintsystem in the rear seat, all unusedvehicle rear seat belt metal latch plates or tabs must be latched securely in their seat belt bucklesand the seat belt webbing must be retracted behind the child restraint to prevent the child from reachingand taking hold of unretracted seat belts.

1. To engage the child restraint seat to the ISOFIX anchor, insert the child restraint seat latch into the ISOFIX anchor. Listen for the audible "click"sound.
2. Connect the tether strap hook to the
child restraint hook holder and tightento secure the seat. Refer to "Secur- ing a Child Restraint System with the Tether Anchorage System" on page1-27.
To secure the child restraint seat
o Do not mount more than one child
restraint to a child restraint lower anchorage point. The improper increased load may cause the an- chorage points or tether anchor tobreak, causing serious injury or death.
o Attach the ISOFIX or ISOFIX-com-
patible child restraint seat only tothe appropriate locations shown in the illustration.
o Always follow the installation and use instructions provided by themanufacturer of the child restraint.
