2. Unsnap the clips around the cover.
3. Lift the cover off.
4. Remove the old filter and replace to
the new one. Genuine Hyundai Re-placement Parts are recommended.
CAUTION:
o Operating your vehicle without a proper air filter in place can resultin excessive engine wear.
o When removing the air cleaner filter, be careful that dust or dirtdoes not enter the air intake. Thesemay result in damage to the air cleaner filter.

The wiper blades should be carefully inspected from time to time and cleaned to remove accumulations of road filmor other debris. To clean the wiper blades and arms, use a clean sponge or cloth with a mild soap or detergentand water. If the wipers continue to streak or smear the glass, replace them with Genuine Hyundai Replace-ment parts or their equivalent.

When the air conditioning is being used regularly, the compressor drive belt tension should be checked at least once a month.To check the drive belt tension, press down on the belt halfway between the engine crankshaft and compressorpulleys. Pressing with your finger, you should not be able to deflect this belt anymore than 8.0 mm (1.1L: 5~ 5.5mm). If you have the instruments to check it with a force of 98N (22 lb.), the deflection should be approx. 8.0 mm(0.315 in.). If the belt is too loose, have it adjusted by your Hyundai dealer. HTB219

Be sure to install the climate control air filter in the direction of the arrow sign. Unless, it may cause noise ordeterioration. G150A01A-GAT CHECKING STEERING WHEEL FREE-PLAY To check the steering wheel free-play, stop the car with the wheels pointed straight ahead and gently move thesteering wheel back and forth. Use very light finger pressure and be sen- sitive to changes in resistance thatmark the limits of the free-play. If the freeplay is greater than specified, have it inspected by your Hyundai dealerand adjusted or repaired if necessary.

G240A01A-AAT POWER STEERING HOSES It is suggested that you check the power steering hose connections forfluid leakage at regular intervals. The power steering hoses should be re- placed if there is severe surface crack-ing, scuffing or worn spots. Deteriora- tion of the hose could cause prema- ture failure.
G300A03TB-GAT REMOVAL OF WATER FROM THE FUEL FILTER(DIESEL ENGINE) If the fuel filter warning light illuminates during driving, it indicates that water has accumulated in the fuel filter. NOTE: It is recommended that water accu- mulated in the fuel filter should be removed by an authorized Hyundai dealer. WARNING:
Be sure to carefully wipe away anywater drained out in this manner,because the fuel mixed in the water might be ignited and result in a fire.

Extracting air in the fuel filter If you drove until you have no fuel left or if you replaced the fuel filter, be sure to extract air in the fuel system as itmakes you difficult to start the engine.
1) Remove the air extract nozzle cap on the fuel filter.
2) Pump up and down until the fuel flows out of the plug opening.
NOTE: Use cloths when you extract air so that the fuel is not sprayed around. Clean the fuel around the fuel filter orthe injection pump before starting the engine to prevent fire. Finally, check each part if the fuel is leaking.

7- 4 EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEMS

EGR SYSTEM ; For a diesel engine
This system helps control oxides of nitrogen by recirculating a part of theexhaust gas into the engine.
Diesel Particulate Filter (If Installed) The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) system removes the soot emitted from the vehicle. Unlike a disposable air filter, the DPF system automatically burns (oxidizes) and removes the accumulated sootaccording to the driving condition. In other words, the active burning by engine control system and high ex-haust gas temperature caused by nor- mal/high driving condition burns and removes the accumulated soot.However, if the vehicle continues to bedriven at low speed for long time, theaccumulated soot may not be auto- matically removed because of low exhaust gas temperature. In this par-ticular case, the amount of soot is out of detection limit, the soot oxidation process by engine control system maynot happen and the malfunction indica- tor light may blink. When the malfunction indicator light blinks, it may stop blinking by driving the vehicle at more than 60km/h (37 mph) or at more than second gear with1500 ~ 2000 engine rpm for a certain time (for about 25 minutes). If the malfunction indicator light con-
tinues to be blinked in spite of the procedure, please visit an authorizedHYUNDAI dealer and then check the DPF system.
If you continue to drive with the mal-
function indicator light blinking for a long time, the DPF system can bedamaged and fuel consumption can be worsen.
