B010F01A-AAT Operation in Foreign Countries If you are going to drive your Hyundai in another country, be sure to:
o Observe all regulations regarding
registration and insurance.
o Determine that acceptable fuel is available.
B020A01S-GAT BREAKING IN YOUR NEW HYUNDAI During the First 2,000 Km (1,200 Miles) No formal "break-in" procedure is re- quired with your new Hyundai. How- ever, you can contribute to the eco- nomical operation and durability of yourHyundai by observing the following recommendations during the first 2,000 km (1,200 miles). B030A01Y-AAT KEYS For greater convenience, your Hyundai has two master keys and a sub key. The master keys will open all locks on your vehicle. The sub key will onlyfunction in the ignition and the door locks. Leaving your sub key with a parkingattendant will ensure that your vehicle's trunk, trunk lid release, glove box com- partment and rear trunk access maynot be unlocked in your absence. NOTE: Before leaving your sub key with a parking attendant, make sure thatthe lock levers of the rear seat back

o Don't drive faster than 88 km/h (55
mph).
o While driving, keep your engine speed (rpm, or revolutions per minute) between 2,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm.
o Use moderate acceleration. Don't start, depress the accelerator pedalfully.
o For the first 300 km (200 miles), try to avoid hard stops.
o Don't lug the engine (in other words, don't drive so slowly in too high a gear that the engine "bucks": shift to a lower gear).
o Whether going fast or slow, vary your speed from time to time.
o Don't let the engine idle longer than 3 minutes for a catalytic converter equipped engine.
o Don't tow a trailer during the first 2,000 km (1,200 miles) of opera-tion.

B030B01L B880A01A-GAT IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM (If installed) The immobilizer system is an anti-theft device, designed to deter automobile theft.
B030B01A-AAT Record Your Key Number A code number is stamped on the number plate that came with the keys to your Hyundai. This key number plate should not be left with the keysbut kept in a safe place, not in the vehicle. The key number should also be recorded in a place where it can befound in an emergency. If you need additional keys, or if you should lose your keys, your authorizedHyundai dealer can make new keys if you can supply the key number. B880B03Y-GAT Three Types of Keys
1) ID key
This key must be used first to regis- ter a unique ID code in the ICM.
2) Master key This key is for general use. It willopen all locks on your vehicle. Oneside of the key has the Hyundai logo and the other side has the "M" sym- bol.
3) Sub key Similar to the master key, this keywill only function in the ignition andthe door locks, but it will not operate the trunk and the glove box. One side of the key has the Hyundai logoand the other side has a "S" symbol.
4) Leaving your sub key with a parking
attendant will ensure that yourvehicle's trunk, trunk lid release, glove box compartment and rear trunk access may not be unlockedin your absence.
NOTE: Before leaving your sub key with a parking attendant, make sure that the lock levers of the seat back lock and the trunk lid lock are switchedto the "LOCK" position.
For greater convenience, your Hyundaihas three types of keys as shown in theillustration. ID-key

o The door can be locked or unlocked
with a key.
o Lock the door by turning the key
toward the front of the vehicle and unlock it by turning the key toward the rear.

B040C02Y-AAT Locking From the Outside The doors can be locked without a key. To lock the doors, first push the inside lock switch to the "LOCK" position so that the red mark on the switch is notvisible, then closed the door. The door will not lock if the key is left in the ignition switch when the front doorsclose. This is normal. NOTE:
o When locking the door this way,
be careful not to lock the door with the ignition key left in the vehicle.
WARNING:
o Unlocked doors can be danger- ous. Before you drive away (es- pecially if there are children in the car), be sure that all the doorsare securely closed and locked so that the doors cannot be inad- vertently opened from the inside.This helps ensure that the doors will not be opened accidentally. Also, when combined with theproper use of seat belts, locking the doors helps keep occupants from being ejected from the carin case of an accident.
o Before opening the door, always
look for and avoid oncoming traf-fic.
o In case of accident, the door is
unlocked automatically.

o To protect against theft, always
remove the ignition key, close all windows, and lock all doors andthe trunk lid when leaving your vehicle unattended.
Your Hyundai is equipped with a "child- protector" rear door lock assembly. When the lock mechanism is engaged, the rear door cannot be opened fromthe inside. Its use is recommended whenever there are small children in the rear seat. To engage the child-protector feature so the door cannot be opened from theinside, move the child-protector lever to the " " position and close the door. Move the lever to the opposite direc-tion of the " " position when normal door operation is desired.
B040D01S-AAT Locking From the Inside To lock the doors from the inside, simply close the door and push the lock switch to the "LOCK" position. When this is done, neither the outsidenor the inside door handle can be used. NOTE: When the door is locked, the red mark on the switch is not visible.

B040E03A-AAT CHILD-PROTECTOR REAR DOOR LOCKIf you wish to be able to open the door from the outside, the outside door handle will function normally.
B040G02L-AAT Central Door Locks The central door locking switch is lo- cated on the driver's arm rest. It isoperated by depressing either the front or rear of the door lock switch. NOTE:
o When pushing the front portion
of the driver's door lock switch, all vehicle doors will lock.If any door is open when the switch is depressed, the door will remain locked when closed. B040G02L-1

B070A01S-AAT THEFT-ALARM SYSTEM (If installed) This system is designed to provide protection from unauthorized entry intothe car. This system is operated in three stages: the first is the "Armed" stage, the second is the "Alarm" stage,and the third is the "Disarmed" stage. If triggered, the system provides an audible alarm siren. B070B03Y-AAT Armed Stage Park the car and stop the engine. Arm the system as described below.
1) Remove the ignition key from the
ignition switch.
2) Make sure that the engine hood and trunk lid are locked.
3) Lock the doors using the transmitter
of the keyless entry system.
o When pushing the rear portion of
the switch, all vehicle doors will unlock.
!
After completion of the steps above, the turn signal light will blink once to indicate that the system is armed. NOTE:
1) If any door, trunk lid or engine
hood remains open, the system will not be armed.
2) If this happens, rearm the system as described above.
CAUTION:
Do not arm the system until all passengers have left the car. If thesystem is armed while a passenger(s) remains in the car, the alarm may be activated whenthe remaining passenger(s) leaves the car.HXGS123
B070C03L-GAT Alarm Stage The alarm will be activated if any of the following occurs while the car is parked and the system is armed.
1) A front or rear door is opened with-
out using the transmitter.
2) The trunk lid is opened without us-
ing the transmitter.
3) The engine hood is opened.The turn signal lights will blink continu- ously and the siren will sound for 27 seconds. (EC only/Except E.C: 3times). To turn off the system, unlock the door or trunk lid with the transmit- ter.

The system will be disarmed when the following step is taken: The driver's or passenger's door is unlocked by depressing the " " button on the transmitter.After completion of the steps above, the turn signal lights will blink twice to indicate that the system is disarmed. Keyless Entry System Locking doors
1. Close all doors.
2. Push the " " button on the
transmitter.
3. All doors will lock and the turn signal lights will blink once to indicate that the system is armed.
Unlocking doors
1. Push the " " button on the transmitter.
2. All doors will unlock and the turn
signal lights will blink twice to indi- cate that the system is disarmed.
Releasing the trunk lid Push the " " button on the trans- mitter for longer than 1 second.
! CAUTION:
Only the transmitter can disarm the armed stage. If the transmitter doesnot disarm the system, it is neces- sary to take the following steps;
1. Unlock the door with the key, which will cause the alarm to be activated.
2. Insert the key in the ignition key cylinder and turn the ignition keyto "ON" position.
3. Wait for 30 seconds. After completing the steps above, the system will be disarmed.!

2. Remove the old battery from the
case and note the polarity. Make sure the polarity of the new battery is the same(+side facing down), then insert it in the transmitter. HEF193

B070E02HP-GAT Replacing the battery When the transmitter's battery begins to get weak, it may take several pusheson the button to lock or unlock the doors, and the LED will not light. Open Close
The power windows operate when the ignition key is in the "ON" position. The main switches are located on the driver's armrest and control the front and rearwindows on both sides of the vehicle. The windows may be opened by de- pressing the appropriate window switchand closed by pulling up the switch. To open the window on the driver's side, press the switch(1) halfway down. Thewindow moves as long as the switch is operated. To fully open the driver's window automatically, press the switchfully down. In automatic operation, the window will fully open even if you let go of the switch. To stop at the desiredopening, pull up and release the switch. HXG025-1

WARNING:
1) Be careful that someone's head, hands and body are not trapped by a closing window.
2) Never try to operate the main
switch on the driver's door andthe individual door window switch in opposing directions atthe same time. If this is done, the window will stop and cannot be opened or closed.
3) Do not leave children alone in the car. Always remove the ignitionkey for their safety. HXG029

B080B01L-AAT Adjusting Seat Forward and Rearward
B080A01A-AAT ADJUSTABLE FRONT SEATS
In order to prevent operation of the passenger front and rear windows, awindow lock switch(2) is provided on the armrest of the driver's door. To disable the power windows, press thewindow lock switch. To revert to nor- mal operation, press the window lock switch a second time. NOTE:
The power windows can be oper- ated for 30 seconds after the igni-tion key is turned to the "ACC" or "LOCK" positions, or removed from the ignition switch.If the front doors are opened during this 30 second period, the power windows can no longer be operatedwithout the ignition key turned to the "ON" position.

B180A01L-GAT SEAT BELTS-Driver's 3-Point System with Emergency Lock-ing Retractor To Fasten Your Belt
To fasten your seat belt, pull it out of the retractor and insert the metal tabinto the buckle. There will be an au- dible "click" when the tab locks into the buckle.The seat belt automatically adjusts to the proper length only after the lap belt is adjusted manually so that it fitssnugly around your hips. If you lean forward in a slow, easy motion, the belt will extend and let you move around. Ifthere is a sudden stop or impact, how- ever, the belt will lock into position. It
Release the button to lock the anchorinto position. Try sliding the height adjuster to make sure that it has lockedinto the position.

o The height adjuster must be in the locked position when the vehicle is moving.
o The misadjustment of height of
the shoulder belt could reducethe effectiveness of the seat belt in a crash.
You can adjust the height of the shoul- der belt anchor to one of the 4 positions for maximum comfort and safety. If the height of the adjusting seat belt istoo near your neck, you will not be getting the most effective protection. The shoulder portion should be ad-justed so that it lies across your chest and midway over your shoulder near- est the door and not your neck.To adjust the height of the seat belt anchor, lower or raise the height ad- juster into an appropriate position. Toraise the height adjuster, pull it up. To lower it, push it down while pressing the height adjuster button. B170A01L
