o For maximum effectiveness in case of an accident the headrestshould be adjusted so the top of the headrest is at the same heightas the top of the occupant's ears. For this reason, the use of a cush- ion that holds the body awayfrom the seatback should not be recommended.
o Do not operate vehicle with the headrests removed as injury tothe occupants may occur in the event of an accident. Headrestsmay provide protection against neck injuries when properly ad- justed.

B090D01Y-AAT Adjusting Seatback Angle
Rotate the upper portion of the control knob forward or backward to recline the seatback to the desired position. Release the control knob and then the seatback will remain in that position. WARNING:
To minimize the risk of personalinjury in the event of a collision ora sudden stop, both the driver's and passenger's seatbacks should remain in an upright position whilethe car is in motion. The protection provided by the seat belts and airbags may be reduced signifi-cantly when the seatbacks are re- clined. There is a greater risk that the seat occupants will slide underthe belt resulting in serious injury if a crash occurs when the seatbacks are reclined. The seat belt cannot provide full protection to an occu- pant if the seatback is reclined.

B180A01L-GAT SEAT BELTS-Driver's 3-Point System with Emergency Lock-ing Retractor To Fasten Your Belt
To fasten your seat belt, pull it out of the retractor and insert the metal tabinto the buckle. There will be an au- dible "click" when the tab locks into the buckle. The seat belt automatically adjusts to the proper length only after the lap belt is adjusted manually so that it fitssnugly around your hips. If you lean forward in a slow, easy motion, the belt will extend and let you move around. Ifthere is a sudden stop or impact, how- ever, the belt will lock into position. It
Release the button to lock the anchorinto position. Try sliding the height adjuster to make sure that it has lockedinto the position.
B180A01L
!WARNING:
o The height adjuster must be in the locked position when the vehicle is moving.
o The misadjustment of height of
the shoulder belt could reducethe effectiveness of the seat belt in a crash.
You can adjust the height of the shoul- der belt anchor to one of the 4 positions for maximum comfort and safety. If the height of the adjusting seat belt istoo near your neck, you will not be getting the most effective protection. The shoulder portion should be ad-justed so that it lies across your chest and midway over your shoulder near- est the door and not your neck.To adjust the height of the seat belt anchor, lower or raise the height ad- juster into an appropriate position. Toraise the height adjuster, pull it up. To lower it, push it down while pressing the height adjuster button. B170A01L

1- 24 FEATURES OF YOUR HYUNDAI
o Children who are too large to be
in a child restraint should sit in the rear seat and be restrained with the available lap/shoulderbelts. Never allow children to ride in the front passenger seat.
o Always make sure that the shoul- der belt portion of the outboardlap/shoulder belt is positionedmidway over the shoulder, never across the neck. Moving the child closer to the center of the vehiclemay help provide a good shoul- der belt fit. The lap belt portion of the lap/shoulder belt or the cen-ter seat lap belt must always be positioned as low as possible on the child's hips and as snug aspossible.
o If the seat belt will not properly fit
the child, Hyundai recommendsthe use of an approved booster seat in the rear seat in order to raise the child's seating heightso that the seat belt will properly fit the child.
WARNING:
o A child restraint system must be placed in the rear seat. Never install a child or infant seat on the front passenger's seat. Should an accident occur andcause the passenger side airbag to deploy, it could severely in- jure or kill an infant or child seatedin an infant or child seat. Thus, only use a child restraint in the rear seat of your vehicle.
o Since a safety belt or child re- straint system can become veryhot if it is left in a closed vehicle,be sure to check the seat cover and buckles before placing a child there.
o When the child restraint system is not in use, store it in the trunkor fasten it with a safety belt sothat it will not be thrown forward in the case of a sudden stop or an accident.
!
B230A03A-GAT CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM (If installed) Children riding in the car should sit in the rear seat and must always be restrained to minimize the risk of injuryin an accident, sudden stop or sudden maneuver. According to accident sta- tistics, children are safer when prop-erly restrained in the rear seats than in the front seat. Larger children not in a child restraint should use one of theseat belts provided. You are required by law to use safety restraints for children. If small childrenride in your vehicle you must put them in a child restraint system (safety seat). Children could be injured or killed in acrash if their restraints are not properly secured. For small children and ba- bies, a child seat or infant seat must beused. Before buying a particular child restraint system, make sure it fits your car seat and seat belts, and fits yourchild. Follow all the instructions pro- vided by the manufacturer when in- stalling the child restraint system.

B870D01L-GAT Glass Antenna (If installed) When the radio power switch is turned on while the ignition key is in either the "ON" or "ACC" position, your car will receive both AM and FM broadcastsignals through the antenna in the rear window glass. RADIO "ON"
CAUTION:
o Before turning on the radio, make sure that no one is near the an- tenna.
o Before entering an automatic car
wash or a place with a low heightclearance, be sure that the an- tenna is retracted and stored.
o If the antenna is dirty, be sure to
clean it in order to avoid an op-eration malfunction. CAUTION:
o Do not clean the inner side of the rear window glass with an abra-sive type of glass cleaner or use a scraper to remove the foreigndeposits from the inner surface of the glass as this may cause damage to the antenna elements.
o Avoid adding metalic coating (Some aftermarket window tintinghas a metallic contents). Thesecan disturb receiving AM and FM broadcast signals.

DRIVING YOUR HYUNDAI 2- 11
C120A02A-AAT ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (If installed) The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is designed to prevent wheel lock-up during sudden braking or on hazard-ous road surfaces. The ABS control module monitors the wheel speed and controls the pressure applied to eachbrake. Thus, in emergency situations or on slick roads, ABS will increase vehicle control during braking. NOTE: During ABS operation, a slight pul- sation may be felt in the brake pedalwhen the brakes are applied. Also, a noise may be heard in the engine compartment while driving. Theseconditions are normal and indicate that the anti-lock brake system is functioning properly. WARNING:
ABS will not prevent accidents dueto improper or dangerous drivingmaneuvers. Even though vehicle control is improved during emer- gency braking, always maintain asafe distance between you and ob- jects ahead. Vehicle speeds should always be reduced during extremeroad conditions. The braking distance for cars equipped with an anti-lock brakingsystem may be longer than for those without it in the following road con- ditions. During these conditions the vehicle should be driven at reduced speeds.
o Rough, gravel or snow-covered roads.
o With tire chains installed.
o On roads where the road surface is pitted or has different surfaceheight.
The safety features of an ABSequipped vehicle should not betested by high speed driving or cornering. This could endanger the safety of yourself or others.
ating or shifting gears. On a slippery surface, an abrupt change in vehi- cle speed can cause the drive wheelsto lose traction and the vehicle to go out of control.
!
!WARNING:
o Avoid high cornering speeds.
o Do not make quick steering wheel movements, such as sharp lane changes or fast, sharp turns.
o Always wear your seat belts.
o In a collision crash, an unbelted person is significantly more likelyto die than a person wearing aseatbelt.
o The risk of rollover is greatly in-
creased if you lose control ofyour vehicle at highway speeds.
o Loss of control often occurs if
two or more wheels drop off theroadway and the driver oversteers to reenter the roadway.
o In the event your vehicle leaves
the roadway, do not steer sharply.Instead, slow down before pull- ing back into the travel lanes.
o Never exceed posted speed lim- its.
