!WARNING:
o Do not install a child restraint seat at the center of the rear seat using the vehicle's ISOFIX an- chors. The ISOFIX anchors are only provided for the left and right outboard rear seating posi- tions. Do not misuse the ISOFIXanchors by attempting to attach a child restraint seat in the middle of the rear seat to the ISOFIXanchors. In a crash, the child restraint seat ISOFIX attachments may not be strong enough tosecure the child restraint seat properly in the center of the rear seat and may break, causing se-rious injury or death.
NOTE: An ISOFIX-child-seat can only be installed if the seat has a vehicle- specific approval according to ECE-R44. Before using the ISOFIX-child- seat, which was bought for another car, ask your Hyundai-dealerwhether this seat-type is approved and recommended for your Hyundai. To secure the child restraint seat

NOTE:
o Both the driver's and front
passenger's pre-tensioner seat belts will be activated in certain frontal collisions. The pre-tensioner seat belts can be acti- vated alone or, where the frontal collision is severe enough, to-gether with the airbags.
o When the pre-tensioner seat belts
are activated, a loud noise maybe heard and fine dust, which may appear to be smoke, may be visible in the passenger compart-ment. These are normal operat- ing conditions and are not haz- ardous. WARNING:
To obtain maximum benefit from apre-tensioner seat belt:
1. The seat belt must be worn cor- rectly.
2. The seat belt must be adjusted to the correct position.B180B02S

The seat belt pre-tensioner system consists mainly of the following com-ponents. Their locations are shown in the illus- tration.
1. SRS airbag warning light
2. Seat belt pre-tensioner assembly
3. SRS control module
The pre-tensioner seat belt operates in a similar way as an Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) type of seat belt. When the vehicle stops suddenly,or if the occupant tries to lean forward too quickly, the seat belt retractor will lock into position. However, in certainfrontal collisions, the pre-tensioner will activate and pull the seat belt into tighter contact against the occupant'sbody. HXG229

o Do not attempt to service or re-
pair the pre-tensioner seat belt system in any manner.
o Improper handling of the pre- tensioner seat belt assemblies, and failure to heed the warnings to not strike, modify, inspect, re-place, service or repair the pre- tensioner seat belt assemblies may lead to improper operationor inadvertent activation and se- rious injury.
o Always wear seat belts when driv-
ing or riding in a motor vehicle.vehicle is being driven, please have an authorized Hyundai deal-er inspect the pre-tensioner seat belts and SRS airbag system as soon as possible.
o Although it is harmless, the fine
dust may cause skin irritationand should not be breathed forprolonged periods. Wash your hands and face thoroughly after an accident in which the pre-tensioner seat belts were acti- vated.
CAUTION:
o Because the sensor that activates the SRS airbag is connected with pre-tensioner seat belt, the SRSairbag warning light on the instrument panel will blink for approximately 6 seconds afterthe ignition key has been turned to the "ON" position, and then it should turn off.
o If pre-tensioner seat belt is not working properly, this warninglight will illuminate even if thereis no malfunction of the SRS airbag. If the SRS airbag warning light does not illuminate whenthe ignition key is turned to "ON" or if it remains illuminated after blinking for approximately 6 sec-onds, or if it illuminates while the

WARNING:
o Pre-tensioners are designed to operate only one time. After acti- vation, pre-tensioner seat belts must be replaced. All seat belts, of any type, should always bereplaced after they have been worn during a collision.
o The pre-tensioner seat belt as- sembly mechanisms become hotduring activation. Do not touch the pre-tensioner seat belt as-semblies for several minutes af- ter they have been activated.
o Do not attempt to inspect or re- place the pre-tensioner seat beltsyourself. This must be done by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

o The SRS is designed to deploy
the airbags only when an impact is sufficiently severe and when the impact angle is less than 30° from the forward longitudinal axisof the vehicle and will not deploy in side, rear or rollover impacts. Additionally, the airbags will onlydeploy once. Thus, seat belts must be worn at all times.
o Front airbags are not intended to deploy in light collisions in whichprotection can be provided by the seat belt alone.

the front passenger with additional pro- tection than that offered by the seat- belt system alone, in case of a frontalimpact of sufficient severity. NOTE: Be sure to read information about the SRS on the labels provided on the backside of the sun visor and in the glove box.
!WARNING:
o As its name implies, the SRS is designed to work with, and be supplemental to, the driver's andthe passenger's three point seat belt systems and is not a substi- tute for them. Therefore, yourseat belts must be worn at all times while the vehicle is in mo- tion. The airbags deploy only incertain frontal impact conditions severe enough to likely cause significant injury to the vehicleoccupants.
B240A02Y-AAT SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT (AIRBAG) SYSTEM (If Installed) Your Hyundai is equipped with a Supplemental Restraint (Airbag) Sys-tem. The indications of the system's presence are the letters "SRS AIR BAG" embossed on the airbag padcover in the steering wheel and the passenger's side front panel pad above the glove box. The Hyundai SRS consists of airbags installed under the pad covers in thecenter of the steering wheel and the passenger's side front panel above the glove box. The purpose of the SRS isto provide the vehicle's driver and/or B240A01L

o For maximum safety protection
in all types of crashes, all occu- pants including the driver should always wear their seat belts whether or not an airbag is alsoprovided at their seating posi- tion to minimize the risk of se- vere injury or death in the eventof a crash. Do not sit or lean unnecessarily close to the airbag while the vehicle is in motion.
o The SRS airbag system must de- ploy very rapidly to provide pro-tection in a crash. If an occupantis out of position because of not wearing a seat belt, the airbag may forcefully contact the occu-pant causing serious or fatal in- juries.o Front airbags are not intended to
deploy in side-impact, rear-im- pact or rollover crashes. In addi- tion, airbags will not deploy in frontal crashes below the deploy-ment threshold speed.
o The driver should sit back as far
as possible while still maintain-ing control of the vehicle. If you are sitting too close to the airbag, it can cause death or seriousinjury when it inflates.
o No objects should be placed over
or near the airbag modules onthe steering wheel, instrument panel, and the front passenger's panel above the glove box, because any such object could cause harm if the vehicle is in a crash severe enough to causethe airbags to deploy.
o If the airbags deploy, they must
be replaced by an authorizedHyundai dealer. o Do not tamper with or discon-
nect SRS wiring, or other com-ponents of the SRS system. Do- ing so could result in injury, due to accidental firing of the airbagsor by rendering the SRS inopera- tive.
o Do not install a child restraint
system in the front passengerseat position. A child restraint system must never be placed inthe front seat. The infant or child could be severely injured or killed by an airbag deployment in caseof an accident.
o Do not allow children to ride in
the front passenger seat. If olderchildren (teenagers and older) must ride in the front seat, make sure they are always properlybelted and that the seat is moved back as far as possible.

The airbag modules are located both in the center of the steering wheel andin the front passenger's panel above the glove box. When the SRSCM de- tects a considerable impact to the frontof the vehicle, it will automatically de- ploy the airbags. Upon deployment, tear seams molded directly into the pad covers will sepa- rate under pressure from the expan-sion of the airbags. Further opening of the covers then allows full inflation of the airbags. A fully inflated airbag in combination with a properly worn seat belt slowsthe driver's or the passenger's forward motion, thus reducing the risk of head or chest injury.B240B02L
The SRS service reminder indicator (SRI) on the instrument panel will blink for about 6 seconds after the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position orafter the engine is started, after which the SRI should go out.
B240B02A-GAT SRS Components and Functions
The SRS consists of the following com- ponents:
- Driver's Airbag Module
- Passenger's Airbag Module
- SRS Service Reminder Indicator (SRI)
- SRS Control Module (SRSCM) The SRSCM continually monitors all elements while the ignition is "ON" to determine if a frontal or near-frontalimpact is severe enough to require airbag deployment. B240B01L

FEATURES OF YOUR HYUNDAI 1- 35
o The SRS can function only when
the ignition key is in the "ON" position. If the SRS SRI does not come on, or continuously re- mains on after flashing for about6 seconds when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, or after the engine is started, comeson while driving, the SRS is not working properly. If this occurs, have your vehicle immediatelyinspected by your Hyundai dealer.
o Before you replace a fuse or dis- connect a battery terminal, turnthe ignition key to the "LOCK" position or remove the ignitionkey. Never remove or replace the air bag related fuse(s) when the ignition key is in the "ON" posi-tion. Failure to heed this warning will cause the SRS SRI to illumi- nate.
WARNING:
o When the SRS is activated, there may be a loud noise and fine dustwill be released throughout thevehicle. These conditions are normal and are not hazardous. However, the fine dust generatedduring airbag deployment may cause skin irritation. Wash your hands and face thoroughly withlukewarm water and a mild soap after an accident in which the airbags were deployed.

Passenger's Airbag
CAUTION:
When installing a container of liq- uid air freshener inside a vehicle, do not place it near the instrumentcluster nor on the instrument panel pad surface. If there is any leakage from the air freshener onto theseareas (Instrument cluster, instru- ment panel pad or air ventilator), it may damage these parts. If the liq-uid from air freshener does leak onto these areas, wash them with water immediately.

B990B04Y-GAT Side Impact Airbag (If installed)
Your Hyundai is equipped with a side impact airbag in each front seat. The purpose of the airbag is to provide the vehicle's driver and/or the front pas-senger with additional protection than that offered by the seatbelt alone. The side impact airbags are designed todeploy only during certain side impact collisions, depending on the crash se- verity, angle, speed and point of im-pact. The side impact airbags are not designed to deploy in all side impact situations. B990B02Y
WARNING:
The Passenger Presence Detectionsystem is not intended to preventairbag deployment while a child is in the front passenger's seat. It is intended only as a means to reduceunnecessary collision damage re- pair expense by preventing airbag and seat belt pretensioner deploy-ment when the right front passen- ger seat is unoccupied. Deployment is still possible if only a few poundsare placed upon the seat. There- fore, children must not be trans- ported in the front seat. All childrenmust be seated in the rear seat and properly restrained with the vehicle's restraint system or a childrestraint system appropriate for the child's size and weight.
!
B990A04Y-GAT PASSENGER PRESENCE
DETECTION (If installed) The passenger presence detection system detects the presence of a pas- senger in the front seat. If no passen-ger is recognized on the front passen- ger seat, the deployment of the front passenger and/or side airbag and seatbelt pretentioner will be inhibited. This system is designed primarily to prevent the replacement of airbag com-ponents that deploy needlessly in an accident. NOTE: Luggage or other cargo heavier than 15 kg should not be placed on the passenger front seat. This can al- low the deployment of the frontpassenger and/or side air bag in the case of an accident.

FEATURES OF YOUR HYUNDAI 1- 37
o Do not place any objects (an
umbrella, bag, etc.) between the front door and the front seat. Such objects may become dan-gerous projectiles and cause in- jury if the supplemental side im- pact air bag inflates.
o To prevent unexpected deploy- ment of the side impact air bagthat may result in personal in-jury, avoid impact to the side airbag sensor when the ignition key is on.o For best protection from the side
airbag system and to avoid being injured by the deploying sideimpact airbag, both front seat occupants should sit in an up- right position with the seat beltproperly fastened. The driver's hands should be placed on the steering wheel at the 9:00 and3:00 o'clock positions. The passenger's arms and hands should be placed on their laps.
o Do not use any accessory seat covers.
o Use of seat covers could reduce or prevent the effectiveness ofthe system.
o Do not install any accessories on the side or near the side impactairbag.
o Do not use excessive force on the side of the seat.
o Do not place any objects over the
airbag or between the airbag and yourself.
WARNING:
o The side impact airbag is supple- mental to the driver's and the passenger's seat belt systems and is not a substitute for them. Therefore your seat belts mustbe worn at all times while the vehicle is in motion. The airbags deploy only in certain side im-pact conditions severe enough to cause significant injury to the vehicle occupants. HXGS261
