D140A02P-GAT ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) (If installed) The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is designed to prevent wheel lock-upduring sudden braking or on hazard- ous road surfaces. A computer moni- tors the wheel speed and controls thepressure applied to each brake. Thus, in emergency situations or on slick roads, your ABS will increase vehiclecontrol during braking. NOTE: During ABS operation, a slight pul- sation may be felt in the brake pedalwhen the brakes are applied. Also, a noise may be heard in the engine compartment while driving. Theseconditions are normal and indicate that the anti-lock brake system is functioning properly. WARNING:
ABS will not prevent accidents dueto improper or dangerous driving maneuvers. Even though vehicle control is improved during emer-gency braking, always maintain a safe distance between you and ob- jects ahead. Vehicle speeds shouldalways be reduced during extreme road conditions. The braking distance for carsequipped with an anti-lock braking system may be longer than for those without it in the following road con-ditions. During these conditions, the ve- hicle should be driven at reducedspeeds:
o On rough, gravel or snow-cov- ered roads.
o With tire chains installed.
o On roads where the road surface
is pitted or has different surface height.
o Use caution when parking on a hill.
Engage the parking brake and place the gear selector lever in "P"(automatic transmission) or in first or reverse gear (manual trans-mission). If your vehicle is facing downhill, turn the front wheels away from the curb to help keep thevehicle from rolling. If there is no curb or if it is required by other conditions to keep the vehicle fromrolling, block the wheels.
o Under some conditions your park-
ing brake can freeze in the engagedposition. This is most likely to hap- pen when there is an accumulation of snow or ice around or near therear brakes or if the brakes are wet. if there is a risk that the parking brake may freeze, apply it only tem-porarily while you put the gear se- lector lever in "P" (automatic trans- mission) or in first or reverse gear(manual transmission) and block the rear wheels so the vehicle cannot roll. Then release the parking brake.

D170B01P-GAT (1) Speed Avoid rapid acceleration, sudden starts, and maximum speed driving; suchoperation will result in more fuel con- sumption. D170C01P-GAT (2) Shifting Shift only at an appropriate vehicle speed and engine rpm.Always use the highest gear possible. Fuel consumption depends largely on the manner in which vehicle is drivenbut it is also affected by other driving conditions. D170D01P-GAT (3) City traffic Frequent starting and stopping in- creases the average fuel consump- tion. Use roads with smooth traffic flowwhenever possible. When driving on congested roads, avoid use of a low gear at high engine rpm. D170G01P-GAT (6) Tire inflation pressure Check the tire inflation pressure at regular intervals. Low tire inflation pres- sures increase road resistance and fuel consumption. In addition, low tirepressures adversely affect tire wear and driving control.D170H01P-GAT (7) Load Do not drive with unnecessary articles in the luggage compartment.Especially during city driving where frequent starting and stopping is nec- essary, the increased weight of thevehicle will greatly affect fuel consump- tion. Also avoid driving with unnecessaryluggage, etc., on the roof; the increased air resistance will cause more fuel consumption.
D170I01P-GAT (8) Cold engine starting Starting of a cold engine consumes more fuel. Unnecessary fuel consump- tion is also caused by keeping a hot engine running. After the engine isstarted, begin driving soon.
D170E01P-GAT (4) Idling The vehicle consumes fuel even dur- ing idling. Avoid extended idling when-ever possible. D170F01P-GAT (5) High speed The higher the vehicles speed, the more fuel consumed. Avoid driving at full speed. Even a slight release of the accelerator pedal will save significant amount of fuel.

1. Loosen the holding nut and pull outthe handle.
The jack handle is stored as shown in the figure. To assemble, follow the steps. 2. Insert the opposite end of the handle,
and then tighten the holding nut.

E060J01A-AAT After changing wheels If you have a tire gauge, remove the valve cap and check the air pressure.If the pressure is lower than recom- mended, drive slowly to the nearest service station and inflate to the cor-rect pressure. If it is too high, adjust it until it is correct. Always reinstall the valve cap after checking or adjustingtire pressure. If the cap is not replaced, air may leak from the tire. If you lose a valve cap, buy another and install it assoon as possible. After you have changed wheels, al- ways secure the flat tire in its place andreturn the jack, jack handle, and tools to their proper storage locations. HSRFL065

8. Lower Vehicle and Tighten
Nuts
Lower the car to the ground by moving the jack handle up and down. Then position the wrench as shown in the drawing and tighten the wheel nuts. Besure the socket is seated completely over the nut. Do not stand on the wrench handle or use an extensionpipe over the wrench handle. Go around the wheel tightening every other nut until they are all tight. Thendouble-check each nut for tightness. After changing wheels, have a techni- cian tighten the wheel nuts to theirproper torque as soon as possible. HSRFL064

o Improperly loading your car and trailer can serious affect its steer- ing and braking performance causing a crash in which youmay be seriously injured.
o For automatic transmission ve-
hicles, the trailer should be towedwith the towing vehicle unloaded, with the exception of the driver. Otherwise, the automatic trans-mission oil temperature may rise to a temperature that may result in serious damage of the auto- matic transmission. C190F02A-GAT Trailer or Vehicle Towing Tips
1. Before towing, check hitch and
safety chain connections as well as proper operation of the trailer run- ning lights, brake lights, and turn signals.
2. Always drive your vehicle at a mod- erate speed (Less than 100 km/h).
3. Trailer towing requires more fuel than normal conditions.
4. To maintain engine braking effi-
ciency and electrical charging per-formance, do not use fifth gear (manual transmission) or overdrive (automatic transmission).
5. Always secure items in the trailer to prevent load shift while driving.
6. Check the condition and air pres- sure of all tires on the trailer and your car. Low tire pressure can se- riously affect the handling. Alsocheck the spare tire.
7. The vehicle/trailer combination is
more affected by crosswind andbuffeting. When being passed by a large vehicle, keep a constant speed and steer straight ahead. If there is too much wind buffeting,slow down to get out of the othervehicle’s air turbulence.
8. When parking your car and trailer,
especially on a hill, be sure to followall the normal precautions. Turn your front wheel into the curb, set the parking brake firmly, and put thetransmission in 1st or "R" (manual transmission) or "P" (automatic transmission). In addition, placewheel chocks at each of the trailer’s tires.
9. If the trailer has electric brakes, start your vehicle and trailer mov-ing, and then apply the trailer brake controller by hand to be sure thebrakes are working. This lets you check your electrical connection at the same time.
10.During your trip, check occasion- ally to be sure that the load issecure, and that the lights and anytrailer brakes are still working.
11.Avoid jerky starts, sudden accel-
eration or sudden stops.
12.Avoid sharp turns and rapid lane changes.

G290B03P-AAT Adjustment After Headlight Assembly Replacement If the vehicle has had front body repair and the headlight assembly has been replaced, the headlight aiming should be checked using the aiming screen asshown in the illustration. Turn on the headlight switch. (Low Beam Position)
1. Adjust headlights so that main axis
of light is parallel to center line of the body and is aligned with point "P"shown in the illustration.
2. Dotted lines in the illustration show
center of headlights.
5. Open the hood.
6. Draw the vertical line (through the
center of each headlight beam pat- tern) and the horizontal line (through the center of each headlight beam pattern) on the aiming screen.And then, draw a horizontal parallel line at 30 mm (1.18 in.) under the horizontal line.
7. Adjust each cut-off line of the low beam to the parallel line with a phillipsscrewdriver - VERTICAL AIMING.
8. Adjust each cut-off line of the low beam to the each vertical line with aphillips screwdriver - HORIZONTALAIMING.

HEADLIGHT AIMING ADJUSTMENT
G290A03P-AAT Before performing aiming adjustment, make sure of the following.
1. Keep all tires inflated to the correct pressure.
2. Place the vehicle on level ground
and press the front bumper and rear bumper down several times.
3. See that the vehicle is unloaded
(except for full levels of coolant,engine oil and fuel, and spare tire, jack, and tools). Have the driver or equivalent weight placed in driver'sseat.
4. Clean the head lights lens and turn
on the headlight (Low beam).

F010L01P-GAT Damaged paint Small cracks and scratches in the paint coat should be touched up assoon as possible with HYUNDAI paint pencil or spray paint to prevent corro- sion. Check body areas facing theroad or the tires especially carefully for damage to the paint coat caused by flying stones, etc. The paint code num-ber for your vehicle can be found on the vehicle information code plate. Tar
If tar becomes adhered to the vehicle, use special tar remover to remove it as soon as possible. If the tar leaves a stain, polish the affected area. F010N01P-GAT
Plastic and rubber parts
Use a soft cloth and wash with water.
If necessary, a cleaning agent spe- cially designed for plastics can beused. If engine oil, brake fluid, battery fluid, etc., comes in contact with these parts, wash promptly with water andthen use alcohol to remove the stain completely. F010O01P-GAT
Load weight and driving speed
Remove any luggage, etc., which is not necessary from the vehicle. The load weight placed on the roof or towed in a trailer also should not be exces-sive.Correctly adjusting the air pressure ofthe tires before driving under maxi- mum load weight conditions and be- fore driving long distances is espe-cially important. Kerb parking
If the tires strike a kerb or concrete parking barrier, they could be dam-aged, and this damage could become a source of extreme danger when the vehicle is subsequently driven at highspeed. If the vehicle is to be driven or onto a kerb or any other such barrier, it should be driven slowly and at anappropriate angle to the kerb or barrier.
F010J01P-GAT Engine compartment Clean the engine compartment at the beginning and end of winter. Pay particualr attention to flanges, crev- ices, and peripheral parts where dustcontaining road chemicals and other corrosive materials might collect. If salt and other chemicals are used on the roads in your area, clean the en- gine compartment at least every threemonths.

Tire replacement
Tires which do not meet the size specifications must not be used. Re- placement of the tires must be made as a set of the two front tires, the tworear tires, or all four tires.A mixture of bias-ply tires and radialtires must not be used. Consult an authorized HYUNDAI dealer regarding tire replacement.

For driving safely, and in order to

Tire air pressure
The air pressure of the tires mustalways be maintained in accordance with the specifications, and should be measured when the tires are cool.If any changes in driving conditions(speed and/or load weight) occur, theair pressure of the tires must meet the specifications which apply to the new driving conditions. If the vehicle isgoing to be driven under varying load weight, etc., the air pressure must be adjusted in order to meet the highestspecifications of the conditions under which the vehicle is driven (high speeds and maximum load weight). F010T01P-GAT Tire storage Storage of the tires should be in a dark, well-ventilated place.Tires not mounted on rims should bestored vertically. Be sure that the tires are not in contact with fuel, oil grease, etc.
