WARNING- Driver’s seat• Never attempt to adjust seat
while the vehicle is moving. This
could result in loss of control,
and an accident causing death,
serious injury, or property dam-
age.
• Do not allow anything to interfere
with the normal position of the
seatback. Storing items against a
seatback or in any other way
interfering with proper locking of
a seatback could result in serious
or fatal injury in a sudden stop or
collision.
• Always drive and ride with your
seatback upright and the lap por-
tion of the seat belt snug and low
across the hips. This is the best
position to protect you in case of
an accident.
• In order to avoid unnecessary and
perhaps severe air bag injuries,
always sit as far back as possible
from the steering wheel while
maintaining comfortable control
of the vehicle. It is recommended
that drivers allow at least 25 cm
(10 in.) between the center of the
steering wheel and their chest.
WARNING - Uprighting
seat
When you return the seatback to its
upright position, hold the seatback
and return it slowly and be sure
there are no other occupants
around the seat. If the seatback is
returned without being held and
controlled, the back of the seat
could spring forward resulting in
accidental injury to a person struck
by the seatback.
WARNING- Loose objects
Loose objects in the driver’s foot
area could interfere with the opera-
tion of the foot pedals, possibly
causing an accident. Do not place
anything under the front seats.
WARNING- Driver respon-
sibility for front seat pas-
senger
Riding in a vehicle with a front seat-
back reclined could lead to serious
or fatal injury in an accident. If a
front seat is reclined during an
accident, the occupant’s hips may
slide under the lap portion of the
seat belt applying great force to the
unprotected abdomen. Serious or
fatal internal injuries could result.
The driver must advise the front
passenger to keep the seatback in
an upright position whenever the
vehicle is in motion.

The front air bags are designed to sup-
plement the three-point seat belts. For
these air bags to provide protection, the
seat belts must be worn at all times when
driving.
You can be severely injured or killed in an
accident if you are not wearing a seat
belt. Air bags are designed to supple-
ment seat belts, but do not replace them.
Also, air bags are not designed to deploy
in every collision. In some accidents, the
seat belts are the only restraint protect-
ing you.
WARNING- AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
• ALWAYS use seat belts and child restraints - every trip, every time, every-
one! Even with air bags, you can be seriously injured or killed in a collision
if you are improperly belted or not wearing your seat belt when the air bag
inflates.
• NEVER place a child in any child restraint or booster seat in the front pas-
senger seat. An inflating air bag could forcefully strike the infant or child
causing serious or fatal injuries.
• ABC - Always Buckle Children under age 13 in the back seat. It is the safest
place for children of any age to ride. If a child age 13 or older must be seat-
ed in the front seat, he or she must be properly belted and the seat should
be moved as far back as possible.
• All occupants should sit upright with the seatback in an upright position,
centered on the seat cushion with their seat belt on, legs comfortably
extended and their feet on the floor until the vehicle is parked and the
engine is turned off. If an occupant is out of position during an accident,
the rapidly deploying air bag may forcefully contact the occupant causing
serious or fatal injuries.
• You and your passengers should never sit or lean unnecessarily close to
the air bags or lean against the door or center console.
Move your seat as far back as possible from front air bags, while still main-
taining control of the vehicle. It is recommended that drivers allow at least
25 cm (10 inches) between the center of the steering wheel and the chest.

Where are the air bags?
Driver’s and passenger’s front air
bags (if equipped)
Your vehicle is equipped with a
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)
and lap/shoulder belts at both the driver
and passenger seating positions.
The SRS consists of air bags which are
located in the center of the steering
wheel and the passenger's side front
panel pad above the glove box.
The air bags are labeled with the letters
“AIR BAG” embossed on the pad covers.
The purpose of the SRS is to provide the
vehicle's driver and front passengers
with additional protection than that
offered by the seat belt system alone in
case of a frontal impact of sufficient
severity.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of serious injury
or death from an inflating front air
bags, take the following precau-
tions:
• Seat belts must be worn at all
times to help keep occupants
positioned properly.
• Adjust the front passenger’s and
driver’s seats as far to the rear as
possible while allowing you to
maintain full control of the vehicle.
• Never lean against the door or
center console.
• Do not allow the front passenger
to place their feet or legs on the
dashboard.
• Do not allow the passenger to ride
in the front seat when the front
passenger’s air bag OFF indicator
is illuminated.
• No objects should be placed over
or near the air bag modules on the
steering wheel, instrument panel,
and the front passenger's panel
above the glove box. Such objects
could cause harm if the vehicle is
in a crash severe enough to cause
the air bags to deploy.

• Air bag deployment depends on a
number of factors including vehicle
speed, angles of impact and the densi-
ty and stiffness of the vehicles or
objects which your vehicle impacts
during a collision. The determining fac-
tors are not limited to those mentioned
above.
• The front air bags will completely
inflate and deflate in an instant. It is vir-
tually impossible for you to see the air
bags inflate during an accident. It is
much more likely that you will simply
see the deflated air bags hanging out
of their storage compartments after the
collision.
• To help provide protection, the air bags
must inflate rapidly. The speed of air
bag inflation is a consequence of
extremely short time in which to inflate
the air bag between the occupant and
the vehicle structures before the occu-
pant impacts those structures. This
speed of inflation reduces the risk of
serious or life-threatening injuries and
is thus a necessary part of air bag
design.
However, the rapid air bag inflation can
also cause injuries which can include
facial abrasions, bruises and broken
bones because the inflation speed also
causes the air bags to expand with a
great deal of force.• There are even circumstances under
which contact with the air bag can
cause fatal injuries, especially if the
occupant is positioned excessively
close to the air bag.
You can take steps to reduce the risk of
being injured by an inflating air bag. The
greatest risk is sitting too close to the air
bag. An air bag needs about 25 cm (10
inches) of space to inflate. It is recom-
mended that drivers allow at least 25 cm
(10 inches) between the center of the
steering wheel and the chest.
When the SRSCM detects a sufficiently
severe impact to the front of the vehicle,
it will automatically deploy the front air
bags.

SRS care
The SRS is virtually maintenance-free
and there are no parts you can safely
service by yourself. If the SRS air bag
warning light does not illuminate when
the ignition switch is in the ON position,
or continuously remains on, we recom-
mend that the system be immediately
inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI
dealer.
We recommend any work on the SRS
system, such as removing, installing,
repairing, or any work on the steering
wheel, the front passenger's panel, front
seats and roof rails be performed by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer. Improper
handling of the SRS system may result in
serious personal injury.WARNING
To reduce the risk of serious injury
or death, take the following precau-
tions:
• Do not attempt to modify or dis-
connect the SRS components or
wiring, including the addition of
any kind of badges to the pad
covers or modifications to the
body structure.
• Do not place objects over or near
the air bag modules on the steer-
ing wheel, instrument panel, or
the front passenger's panel
above the glove box.
• Clean the air bag pad covers with
a soft cloth moistened with plain
water. Solvents or cleaners could
adversely affect the air bag cov-
ers and proper deployment of the
system.
• We recommend that inflated air
bags be replaced by an author-
ized HYUNDAI dealer.

tem must be discarded, or if the
vehicle must be scrapped, certain
safety precautions must be
observed. Consult an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer for the neces-
sary information. Failure to follow
these precautions could increase
the risk of personal injury.
