Check the pads for excessive wear,
discs for run out and wear, and cali- pers for fluid leakage.

o Exhaust Pipe and Muffler
Visually inspect the exhaust pipes,
muffler and hangers for cracks, dete- rioration, or damage. Start the engineand listen carefully for any exhaust gas leakage. Tighten connections or replace parts as necessary. F070M01A-AAT
o Steering Gear Box, Linkage &
Boots/Lower arm Ball Joint
With the vehicle stopped and engine
off, check for excessive free-play in the steering wheel. Check the linkage for bends or damage. Check the dustboots and ball joints for deterioration, cracks, or damage. Replace any dam- aged parts.

o Power Steering Pump, Belt
and Hoses
Check the power steering pump and
hoses for leakage and damage. Re- place any damaged or leaking parts immediately. Inspect the power steer-ing belt for evidence of cuts, cracks, excessive wear, oiliness and proper tension. Replace or adjust it if neces-sary. F070P01A-AAT
o Driveshafts and Boots
Check the drive shafts, boots andclamps for cracks, deterioration, or damage. Replace any damaged parts and, if necessary, repack the grease. F070Q01A-AAT
o Air Conditioning Refrigerant
Check the air conditioning lines and connections for leakage and damage.Check air conditioning performance according to the relevant shop manual if necessary.

Recommended Oil Gasoline Engine Engine oil is essential to the perfor- mance and service of the engine. It is suggested that you check the oil level at least once a week in normal useand more often if you are on a trip or driving in severe conditions. The engine oil quality should meet the following classification: API SJ, SL or ABOVE, ILSAC GF-3 or ABOVE G030B01JMNOTE:
o For good fuel economy, SAE 5W- 20 (5W-30), ILSAC GF-3 engine oilis preferred regardless of regional option and engine variation.
o If SAE 5W-20, ILSAC GF-3 engine oil is not available, secondaryrecommended engine oil for cor- responding temperature rangecan be used.

Engine oil is essential to the perfor-
mance and service of the engine. It is suggested that you check the oil levelevery 500km or before starting a long trip and more often if you are driving in severe conditions.
The engine oil quality should meet
the following classification:
API class: CH-4 or ABOVEACEA class: B4 or ABOVE

NOTE: SAE 0W-30 oil is for extra cold zone and to be restricted by driving con-dition and dealing area. (Especially, not recommended for sustained high loaded and high speed operation.)

To Check the Oil Level

Before checking the oil, warm up the
engine to normal operating tempera- ture and be sure your vehicle is parkedon level ground. Turn the engine off. G030C02FC
Diesel engine
!WARNING:
Be very careful not to touch the radiator hose when checking the engine oil as it may be hot enough to burn you.
Wait about five minutes, then removethe dipstick, wipe it off, fully reinsertthe dipstick and withdraw it again. Then note the highest level the oil has reached on the dipstick. It should bebetween the upper "F" and lower "L" range.

ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION Function of Engine Oil
Engine oil has the primary function of
lubricating and cooling the inside of the engine. Engine oil consumption
It is normal that an engine should
consume some engine oil while nor- mal driving. The cause of oil con- sumption in a normal engine are asfollows;
o Engine oil is used to lubricate pis- tons, piston rings and cylinders. A thin film of oil is left on the cylinder wall when a piston moves downwards in the cylinder. High negative pressure generated dur-ing engine operation sucks some of the oil into the combustion cham- ber.This oil with some oil of the cylin-der wall is burned by the high tem-perature combustion gases during the combustion process.
1. Remove the oil filler cap by turning
it counter-clockwise.
2. Add oil, then check the level again. Do not overfill.
3. Replace the cap by turning it clock- wise.
The distance between the "F" and "L" marks is equal to about 1 liter(GasolineEngine)/1.2 liter(Diesel Engine) of oil.

! CAUTION:
Slowly pour the recommended oil using by a funnel. Do not overfill not to damage engine.
WARNING:
Be very careful not to touch the radiator hose when adding the en- gine oil as it may be hot enough to burn you.

o The engine oil consumption is strongly effected by the viscosity and quality of oil, engine rpm and driving condition etc. The engine oil is more consumed under severedriving conditions such as high speeds and frequent acceleration and deceleration than normal driv-ing condition.CHANGING THE OIL AND FILTER

Gasoline engine
The engine oil and filter should be
changed at those intervals specified in the maintenance schedule in Sec-tion 5. If the vehicle is being driven in severe conditions, more frequent oil and filter changes are required. G040A03EThe procedure for changing the oil andfilter is as follows:
1. Park the vehicle on level ground and set the parking brake. Start the engine and let it warm up until the needle on the coolant temperaturegauge moves above the lowest mark. Turn the engine off and place the gear selector lever in "P" (auto-matic) or reverse gear (manual transaxle).
2. Open the hood and remove the engine oil filler cap.
3. Slide underneath the car and loosen the oil pan drain plug by turning itcounterclockwise with a wrench of the proper size. Be sure that adrain pan is in position to catch the oil as it drains out, then remove the drain plug.
WARNING:
Be very careful when draining theengine oil as it may be hot enough to burn you!
