7EXPLANATION OF SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ITEMS

o Engine Oil and Filter
The engine oil and filter should be changed at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. If the car is being driven in severe conditions,more frequent oil and filter changes are required. 6ZF060B1-A
o Drive Belts
Inspect all drive belts for evidence of cuts, cracks, excessive wear or oil contamination and replace if neces- sary. Drive belts should be checkedperiodically for proper tension and ad- justed as necessary. 6ZF060C1-A
o Fuel Filter A clogged filter can limit the speed at which the vehicle may be driven, dam- age the emission system and cause hard starting. If an excessive amountof foreign matter accumulates in the fuel tank, the filter may require re- placement more frequently.After installing a new filter, run theengine for several minutes, and checkfor leaks at the connections.
WARNING (Diesel only):
Never work on injection system with engine running or within 30 sec- onds after shutting off engine. Highpressure pump, rail, injectors and high pressure pipes are subject to high pressure even after the enginestopped. The fuel jet produced by fuel leaks may cause serious injury, if it contacts the body. People usingpacemakers should ensure that they keep a distance of 30cm from the ECU or wiring harness within theengine room whilst engine is run- ning, since the high currents in the Common Rail system produce con-siderable magnetic fields.

Connections
Check the fuel lines, fuel hoses and connections for leakage and damage. Replace any damaged or leaking parts immediately.

o Brake Pads, Calipers and Rotors
Check the pads for excessive wear,
discs for run out and wear, and cali- pers for fluid leakage.

o Exhaust Pipe and Muffler
Visually inspect the exhaust pipes,
silencer and hangers for cracks, dete- rioration, or damage. Start the engine and listen carefully for any exhaust gas leakage. Tighten connections orreplace parts as necessary. 6ZF070M1-A
o Steering Gear Box, Linkage &
Boots/Lower arm Ball Joint
With the vehicle stopped and engine
off, check for excessive freeplay in the steering wheel.
Check the linkage for bends or dam-
age. Check the dust boots and balljoints for deterioration, cracks, or dam- age. Replace any damaged parts.

o Power Steering Pump, Belt
and Hoses
Check the power steering pump and
hoses for leakage and damage. Re- place any damaged or leaking parts immediately. Inspect the power steer-ing belt for evidence of cuts, cracks, excessive wear, oil contamination and proper tension. Replace or adjust it ifnecessary. 6ZF070P1-A
o Driveshafts and Boots
Check the drive shafts, boots andclamps for cracks, deterioration, or damage. Replace any damaged parts and, if necessary, repack the grease. 6ZF070Q1-A
o Air conditioning Refrigerant
Check the air conditioning lines and connections for leakage and damage.Check air conditioning performance according to the relevant shop manual if necessary.

5DAILY OPERATING CHECKS
SG020B1-E The following items should be checked on a daily basis or whenever the ve- hicle is refuelled, whichever occurssooner.
o Engine oil level.
o Engine coolant level.
o Power steering fluid level.
o Brake fluid level.
o Windscreen washer fluid level.
o Battery condition.
o Tyre condition and pressures.
o Operation and cleanliness of all light- ing equipment.
o Windscreen wiper and washer op- eration.
o Horn operation.
o Warning light operation.
o Adjustment and cleanliness of mir- rors.
o Seat and seat belt adjustment and
operation.
o Fluid leakage.
The vehicle must not be driven if the daily operating checks indicate that any item of equipment related to thesafety or roadworthiness of the vehicle is not functioning correctly. G030A01FC-EAT The correct engine oil level is of para-
mount importance. An excessively high or low oil level may result inirreparable damage being sustained by the engine. The engine oil level must be checked on a daily basis, wheneverthe vehicle is refuelled or before start- ing a long trip, whichever occurs sooner.
In addition, it is imperative that only an
approved grade and specification of oilis used to avoid the possibility of serious engine damage and prematurewear. The use of "budget price" oil is a false economy that must be avoided if the maximum reliability and usefullife is to be obtained from the vehicle. G030B02O-EAT Recommended Oil Petrol engine
ENGINE OIL
The engine oil quality should meet the following classification. API SJ, SL or ABOVE ILSAC GF-3 or ABOVE The oil viscosity should be selected according to the operating environ- ment of the engine by means of thetable shown above. The engine oil recommendations are complete in themselves and the use of additives isneither required nor recommended. The use of engine oil additives may result in invalidation of the vehicle warranty.

Compressor Drive Belt The air conditioning compressor drive belt should be checked to ensure free- dom from damage or excessive wearand correct tension. The belt tension is correct when the belt deflects by about 0.3 inches (8 mm) when a forceof 98 N is applied to the belt halfway between the compressor and crank- shaft pulleys. Adjustment of the belt should be en- trusted to a Hyundai authorised re- pairer. CRANK PULLEY

CHANGING THE POLLEN FILTER

The pollen filter is located in front of
the blower unit behind the glove box. It helps to decrease pollutants from
entering the car.
1. Open the glove box and remove the adjusting pins on both sides of the glove box. 2. Remove the filter cover by pulling
upward the hooks of the filter cover.

Brake Pedal
The brake pedal freeplay should be checked with the engine turned off.The pedal to floor clearance should be checked with the engine running and a load of 490 N applied to the pedal. Ifeither value is incorrect, the neces- sary adjustment should be performed by a Hyundai authorised repairer. Pedalto floor clearance: 1.97 in. (50 mm)

SG190A1-E Petrol Engine The various engine drive belts must be checked for condition, tension and free-dom from damage and excessive wear. You need a helper to check the brake
pedal clearance. With the engine run- ning, have your helper press down on the brake pedal several times and then hold it down with a force of about 490N(50 kg, 110 lbs). The brake pedal clearance is the distance from the top surface of the brake pedal to the as-phalt sheeting under the floor mat. If the brake pedal clearance is not within the limits specified in the illustration,have it inspected by your Hyundai dealer and adjusted or repaired if nec- essary.
