B010B01A-AAT What About Gasohol? Gasohol (a mixture of 90% unleaded gasoline and 10% ethanol or grain alcohol) may be used in your Hyundai. However, if your engine develops drive ability problems, the use of 100% un- leaded gasoline is recommended. Fu-els with unspecified quantities of alco- hol, or alcohols other than ethanol, should not be used.
B010A01O-GAT Use Unleaded Gasoline Unleaded gasoline with a Pump Oc- tane Rating of 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or higher must be used inHyundai vehicle. If leaded gasoline is used, it will cause the catalytic con- verter to become ineffective and theemission control system to malfunc- tion. This can also result in increased main-tenance expense. To avoid accidental use of leaded fuel, the large nozzle used with leaded gasoline at servicestations can not be inserted into fuel tank opening of your Hyundai.
NOTE:
o For some countries, Hyundai
vehicles are designed to use leaded gasoline. When you aregoing to use leaded gasoline, ask to Hyundai dealer whether leaded gasoline in your vehicleis available or not.
o Octane rating of leaded gasoline
is same with unleaded one.
Use Diesel Diesel fuel of 52 to 54 cetane is the correct rating to use in your Hyundai. If two types of diesel fuel are available, use summer or winter fuel properlyaccording to the following temperature conditions.
o Above -5°C (23°F) ... Summer type diesel fuel.
o Below -5°C (23°F) ... Winter type
diesel fuel.
Watch the fuel level in the tank very carefully : If the engine stops through fuel failure, the circuits must be com- pletely purged to permit restarting. CAUTION:
o Do not let any gasoline or water enter the tank. This would makeit necessary to drain it out and to bleed the lines to avoid jamming the injection pump and damag-ing the engine.
o In winter, in order to cut down
incidents due to freezing, paraf-fin oil may be added to the fuel if the temperature drops to below -10°C. Never use more than 20% paraffin oil.

Your Hyundai is equipped with dual- diagonal braking systems. This meansyou still have braking on two wheels even if one of the dual systems should fail. With only one of the dual systemsworking, more than normal pedal travel and greater pedal pressure are re- quired to stop the car. Also, the car willnot stop in as short a distance with only half of the brake system working. If the brakes fail while you are driving, shiftto a lower gear for additional engine braking and stop the car as soon as it is safe to do so.
B260J01S-GAT Charging System Warning Light
The charging system warning light should come on when the ignition isturned on, then go out when the engine is running. If the light stays on while the engine is running, there is a malfunc-tion in the electrical charging system. If the light comes on while you are driv- ing, stop, turn off the engine and checkunder the hood. First, make certain the generator drive belt is in place. If it is, check the tension of the belt. And then, have the system checked by your Hyundai dealer.
CAUTION:
If the drive belt (generator belt) is loosen, broken, or mission whilethe vehicle is driving, there may be a serious malfunction, engine could overheat because this belt alsodrives the water pump.

!
!!WARNING (Diesel only):
Never work on injection system with engine running or within 30 sec- onds after shutting off engine. High pressure pump, rail, injectors andhigh pressure pipes are subject to high pressure even after the engine stopped. The fuel jet produced byfuel leaks may cause serious in- jury, if it touch the body. People using pacemakers should not movethan 30cm closer to the ECU or wiring harness within the engine room while engine is running, sincethe high currents in the Common Rail system produce considerable magnetic fields. WARNING:
Do not remove the radiator cap whenthe engine is hot. This can allowcoolant to be blown out of the open- ing and cause serious burns.
5. If the water pump drive belt is bro- ken or coolant is leaking out, stop the engine immediately and call the nearest Hyundai dealer for assis- tance. 6. If you cannot find the cause of the
overheating, wait until the enginetemperature has returned to nor-mal. Then, if coolant has been lost, carefully add coolant to the reser- voir (Page 6-12) to bring the fluidlevel in the reservoir up to the half- way mark.
7. Proceed with caution, keeping alert for further signs of overheating. Ifoverheating happens again, call a Hyundai dealer for assistance.
CAUTION:
Serious loss of coolant indicates there is a leak in the cooling system and this should be checked as soonas possible by a Hyundai dealer. D040A01HP-GAT The following instructions for the FULL SIZE spare tire should be observed: Check inflation pressure as soon as possible after installing the spare tire, and adjust to the specified pressure. The tire pressure should be periodi- cally checked and maintained at thespecified pressure while the tire is stored. Spare Tire Pressure

VEHICLE MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
9EXPLANATION OF SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ITEMS
!
F060M01A-AAT
o Engine Oil and Filter
The engine oil and filter should be changed at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. If the car is being driven in severe conditions, more frequent oil and filter changes are required. F060B01A-AAT
o Drive belts
Inspect all drive belts for evidence of cuts, cracks, excessive wear or oil saturation and replace if necessary. Drive belts should be checked periodi-cally for proper tension and adjusted as necessary. F060C01A-AAT
o Fuel filter
A clogged filter can limit the speed at
which the vehicle may be driven, dam-age the emission system and cause hard starting. If an excessive amountof foreign matter accumulates in the fuel tank, the filter may require re- placement more frequently. After installing a new filter, run the
engine for several minutes, and checkfor leaks at the connections. Fuel fil- ters should be installed by trained technicians. WARNING (Diesel only):
Never work on injection system with
engine running or within 30 sec- onds after shutting off engine. High pressure pump, rail, injectors andhigh pressure pipes are subjected to high pressure even after the en- gine has been switched off. The fueljet produced by fuel leaks may cause serious injury, if it contacts with the body. People using pacemakersshould not move closer than 30cm to the ECU or wiring harness within the engine room with the enginerunning, since the high currents in the Common Rail system produce considerable magnetic fields.
F060D01TB-GAT
o Fuel Lines, Fuel Hoses and
Connections
Check the fuel lines, fuel hoses and connections for leakage and damage. Have a trained technician replace any damaged or leaking parts immediately.

22CHECKING THE BRAKES
!
G120A01A-AAT
CAUTION:
Because brakes are essential to the safe operation of the car, it issuggested that they be checked and inspected by your Hyundai dealer. The brakes should bechecked and inspected for wear at those intervals specified in the vehicle maintenance schedule inSection 5.!!WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled by engine coolant temperature and may sometimes operate even whenthe engine is not running. Use extreme caution when working near the blades of the cooling fan, sothat you are not injured by a rotat- ing fan blade. As the engine cool- ant temperature decreases, the fanwill automatically shut off. This is a normal condition. WARNING (Diesel only):
Never work on injection system
with engine running or within 30 seconds after shutting off engine. High pressure pump, rail, injec- tors and high pressure pipes aresubjected to high pressure even after the engine has been switched off. The fuel jet produced by fuelleaks may cause serious injury, if it contacts with the body. People using pacemakers should notmove closer than 30cm to the ECU or wiring harness within the en- gine room with the engine run-ning, since the high currents in the Common Rail system produce considerable magnetic fields.

To check the power steering fluid level, be sure the ignition is "OFF",then check to make certain that the power steering fluid level is between the "MAX" and "MIN" level markingson the fluid reservoir. NOTE: Grinding noise from the power steering pump may be heard im- mediately after the engine is startedin extremely cold conditions (be- low - 20°C). If the noise stops dur- ing warm up, there is no abnormalfunction in the system. If is due to a power steering fluid characteris- tic in extremely cold conditions.
Recommended Fluid Use PSF-3 type fluid. NOTE: Do not start the engine when the power steering oil reservoir is empty.
FUEL FILTER
G240A01A-AAT
POWER STEERING HOSES
It is suggested that you check the
power steering hose connections for fluid leakage at regular intervals. The power steering hoses should be re-placed if there is severe surface crack- ing, pulling, scuffing or worn spots. Deterioration of the hose could causepremature failure. G350A02HP-GAT Bleeding the Fuel System (For Diesel Engine (2.5 TCI)) The fuel system should be bled to remove air as described in the illus- tration if the fuel supply is exhausted during travel, when the fuel filter isreplaced, or if the vehicle is not used for a long time.
1. Loosen the air bleed bolt at the
upper part of the fuel filter with a flat-head screwdriver or equivalent. G350A01HP

!WARNING:
o Do not smoke or have any other open flame near the vehicle while bleeding the fuel system.
o Be sure to carefully clean away any fuel which spilled onto nearby parts coming out of the air bleed bolt, because suchaccumulations of fuel might ig- nite and cause a fire. G300A02HP-GAT
Removal of Water from the Fuel Filter (For Diesel Engine (2.5 TCI))
If the fuel filter warning lamp illumi-
nates during driving, it indicates that water has accumulated in the fuel filter. If this occurs, remove the water as described below.
G300A01HP
1. Loosen the drain plug at the bot- tom of the fuel filter.
2. Pump the hand pump until there
are no more bubbles in the fuelcoming out of the air bleed bolt. When doing this, place a cloth around the air bleed bolt to preventthe escaping fuel from spewing about.
3. Tighten the air bleed bolt when there are no more bubbles in thefuel.
4. Continue pumping until the hand pump becomes stiff.
5. Finally, check to be sure that there is no leakage of fuel. If in doubt, consult your nearestauthorized HYUNDAI dealer. G350A02HP

2. Operate the hand pump slowly 6 or
7 times in order to force the water out through the drain plug.
3. Tighten the drain plug when water no longer comes out.
4. Loosen the air bleed bolt and bleed the air.(Refer to "Bleeding the fuel sys-tem".)
5. Check to be sure that the warning lamp illuminates when the ignitionkey is turned to "ON", and that itgoes off when the engine is started. If in doubt, consult your nearestauthorized HYUNDAI dealer. G350A02HP
!
NOTE: It is recommended that water ac-
cumulated in the fuel filter should be removed by an authorized Hyundai dealer. G350B01HP-GAT Bleeding the Fuel System (For Diesel Gngine (2.9 CRDi)) The fuel system should be bled to remove air as described in the illus- tration if the fuel supply is exhausted during travel, when the fuel filter isreplaced, or if the vehicle is not used for a long time.
1. Pump the hand prime pump with
your hand for one minute(about 20~30 times).
2. Turn the ignition key to the "START"
position and release it 2~3 times shortly until the engine starts. HHP5048
WARNING:
o Do not smoke or have any other open flame near the vehicle whilebleeding the fuel system.
o Be sure to carefully wipe away any water drained out in this manner, because the fuel mixedin the water might be ignited and result in a fire.
